1. Our January chapter meeting will be held Wednesday, January 25,

2017 at the Penbrook American Legion Post 730. Social hour will

begin at 6 PM with dinner being served at 7 PM. Speaker will follow

dinner.

2. On the dinner menu this month will be chicken parmesan, spaghetti,

tossed salad with dressing, garlic bread, chocolate chip cookie and

ice cream, coffee, iced tea, soft drinks and beer. Dinner price is

$12; coffee, iced tea and soft drinks are included with the meal;

donations for beer will be accepted. Suggested beer donations are

$1 per glass and $5 per pitcher.

3. It is imperative that you make your dinner reservation by calling

(717-652-1534) or e-mailing Bob Hafer rhafer837@verizon.net) no

later than noon on Monday, January 23, 2017. IT IS VITALLY

IMPORTANT THAT YOU CALL BOB IF YOU PLAN ON JOINING

US FOR DINNER. WE NEED TO PROVIDE LEGION POST 730

WITH AN ACCURATE NUMBER OF THOSE WHO WILL BE

ATTENDING. THIS IS TO ENSURE THERE IS ENOUGH FOOD

FOR ALL WHO ATTEND THE MEETING. Also, you need to

know that Post 730 will charge us for the meals we reserve. So,

it is imperative that you also let us know when you make a

reservation and find out later that you are unable to join us for

dinner. Should this happen to you and you don’t call us we will

be charged for your meal. Your cooperation is appreciated.

4. Our 51st annual chapter induction banquet has been scheduled for

Saturday June 10, 2017. As a member in good standing you have

the right to nominate candidates for induction. Please see Board

Chairman Tom Finger for nomination forms. Keep in mind your

candidate (1) must be retired from his/her sport for a minimum of 3

years OR (2) be in his/her sport/position for a minimum of 25 years

OR (3) have reached his/her 55th birthday. Also, your candidate

must agree to attend the induction banquet.

5. Our guest speaker this month will be Bishop McDevitt High School

Athletic Director/Coach Tommy Mealy. A McDevitt and Lebanon

Valley College grad, Tommy has also served his high school alma

mater as a teacher, assistant football coach and head track and

field coach. You won’t want to miss hearing this dynamic 2015 Mid

Penn Athletic Director of the Year discuss McDevitt, Mid Penn and

District 3 sports

6. We request that all please be respectful and do not carry on private

conversations while our guest is speaking. Please know that all of

our speakers are well aware of their allotted speaking time and no

one from the audience needs to remind them. If need be, this issue

will be handled in a respectful manner from the head table. Your

cooperation is greatly appreciated.

7. Our chapter final 2016 membership was 441 members in good

standing. Below is membership numbers for the past eight years;

2009 – 533 members

2010 – 581 members

2011 – 570 members

2012 – 556 members

2013 – 522 members

2014 – 531 members

2015 – 490 members

8. Our 2016 membership statistics;

88 members removed for unpaid 2016 dues

18 of the 88 paid their dues and were reinstated (13.43%)

41 new members

22 members passed away

As you can see by these statistics, we are slowly fading away. For

this chapter to continue we will need to recruit new members. We ask

that each member recruit at least two new members in 2017.

10. May our departed members rest in peace.

11. Again I remind all, it is crucial that each member keeps me

attuned to their current postal and e-mail address. We cannot

deliver chapter or state ballots to you if we cannot contact you.

Some of our members neglected to give me address changes when

they moved and consequently did not receive their ballots this past

year.

12. Are your 2017 dues paid? You may email me to ask your status

if you are unsure. Keep in mind your annual $10 dues must be paid

by March 31, 2017.

13. We still have chapter shirts, hats and coffee mugs available.

Please let me know via e-mail if you would like to purchase any of

these items.

14. We kindly ask our members to please contact Sick & Vigil Chair

Tom Finger at 717-939-3006 if you know of a member who is ill or

who has passed away. We will be happy to send a get well card to

our member or a sympathy card to the family on behalf of the

chapter.

15. Executive Committee members – our next board meeting is

scheduled for January 18 at Post 730. An agenda will be sent to

each member by way of email or snail mail. We are happy to

welcome aboard new board member Joe Armstrong.
