It is basically a rolled up sheet of graphene. It has incredible mechanical, electrical, thermal and magnetic properties. Carbon nanotubes can either be semi - conductive or metallic. They have different amount of layers, and therefore different thickness, length and breath. The diameter and amount of twist of the lattice also determines its conductivity. They are hollow, and are either closed up or open on the tips depending on how it was made. Objectives: Carbon nanotubes can be used as targeted drug carriers, especially for cancer treatment and tumours. They can also currently be used for water and air filtration. These filters can block the tiniest of particles and even kill bacteria. They are also used as support within some tennis rackets due to their light weight and strength. Conclusions Carbon nanotubes are really incredible. We will have easier modes of transport and maybe even a better everyday appliances and technology. Due to their strength and properties, our daily lives and buildings will transform into something we see only in movies. They are like no other material on earth, and by far, the best! In the very near future, we will all be able to experience this reality of CARBON NANOTUBES!!! Possible future applications: At the moment, there are really amazing ideas for carbon nanotubes. One of the ideas that I find most interesting is a space elevator, which will go from earth to space. The only problem is that we don’t know how to build carbon nanotubes to that length yet, but hopefully will soon. Body armour is also another dream for some, as it will be the best body armour ever made. Carbon nanotubes may even transform our batteries to be stronger and last even longer. Carbon nanotubes could also be used to build space crafts, making it cheaper, to go to space as it will be lighter and therefore need less fuel.
