GIRLS HOCKEY - VARSITYAlex 5 Sartell 2The Lady Cards hit home ice against conference and section opponent, Sartell. Both teams looking tosnag some brownie points to help in conference standings, but also for upcoming section seeding nextmonth. The Cards battled hard for the majority of the game and out shot the Stormin’ Sabres 34-19.Lots of grinding and making plays by the Cards tonight to help get the W. Scoring tonight for the Cardswas led by Ali Castle who notched 2 goals as well as an assist. MaKenna Aure, Mayson Toft, and EllaWestlund nished our the scoring for the Cards. Lauren Maras and Anna Doherty would also get onthe point sheet for an assist. Jordan O’Kane got the win between the pipes tonight and saved 17 of 19shots. Good team win by the Lady Cards as we look to take on another section opponent on Thursdayas we head to Rogers. Go Cards Go! #togetherwearestrongerGIRLS HOCKEY - JVAlexandria 4 Sartell/Sauk Rapids Rice 2Home again, Home again, is there a better place? The girls stepped on to the RCC ice sheet for thesecond time in less than a week for a section showdown vs. Sartell-Sauk Rapids. If this rematch wasgoing to be anything like our battle back in late November in Sartell, we knew we were in for anotherclose hard fought game this evening. The rst period was offensively slower for both teams as eachteam did a good job of taking away the opponents time and space. Shots in net were few with theedge going to SSR 6-4. However, it was the lady Cards that would strike rst on the night as JuniorMaci Tilleskjor slid a low hard shot from the top of the slot past a screened goalie with the assist goingto Ella Johnston. SSR would respond with a goal of there own just a couple minutes later to knit thescore at 1. The message during the second period was to simply get more pucks to the net and testtheir goalie. It was another close, hard fought period where we were struggling to get anything goingin the offensive zone. As a matter of fact a good portion of the period was a battle in our defensive endas we were again outshot by SSR 11-6. Pucks to the net, pucks to the net, pucks to the net. On ashorty mid way through the second, Elle Murphy put an innocent shot on net that went off the SSRgoalies blocker and popped up behind her and landed in the net. Pucks to the net, pucks to the net. Itpaid off as we went up 2-1 at that point. SSR sustained offensive pressure nally paid off late in thesecond as they again tied it up on the scoreboard at 2. Olivia Strand was very solid between the pipesfor the lady Cards in the second. Into the third we go and the tandem of Ella Westlund (2G) and PeytonBoesl (2A), one early and one late in the period would put the lady Cards on victory lane for the nightlocking up the sweep on the year vs. SSR. Also assisting on Ella’s second goal was Kim Junker. Upnext, away in Rogers Thursday 1-9-20 for another section opponent.

GIRLS BASKETBALL - VARSITYAlexandria 56 Sartell 44The Lady Cards hit the road to Sartell and came home with a solid CLC and Section win as wefrustrated the Sabres with tough defensive pressure and effective offensive execution. The Cards wereready right out of the chute as we stretched the lead to as much as 25 in the second half and sealedthe deal for the win. Scoring was balanced with Ella Grove 18, 8 for Mia McGrane, Mataya Hoelscher,

BOYS HOCKEY - VARSITYAlexandria 3 Sartell 1The Alexandria Boys High School hockey team traveled to Sartell to take on the Sabers on Tuesdaynight. Sartell is never an easy place to play, and you will usually nd yourself in a battle no mater howyour season is going. An evenly matched 1st period was fairly uneventful until Caleb Strong tipped a pass and was off to theraces while being on the penalty kill. He drove hard to the net and drew a penalty shot when theopponent interfered Strong while trying to score. With 2 seconds left in the period Strong took hispenalty shot and scored giving the Cards a 1-0 lead after 1 period. Christopher Loken had 8 saves inthe nets for the Cards. The Second period was another strong period for the Cardinals allowing only 5 shots and saves forLoken in da nets. Sr Captain Andrew Revering scored on a powerplay with a nice snap shot from thepoint. But the Sabers were hanging around and scored on a power play of their own 3 minutes afterthe Cards scored. And that is how score ended up, 2-1 after 2.Sr Shane Birkeland scored a big goal for the Cardinals 10:37 into the 3rd period with helpers going toSr Nathaniel Mulder and Sophomore Josiah Gronholz. A good defensive effort by the team kept Sartelloff the scoreboard in the 3rd period and Chris Loken slammed the door the rest of the way for the win.The Cardinals are now 10-4-0 on the season and don’t see action again until Thursday January 16th inWillmar.
