Information Driven Healthcare through the Cloud
“Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model is composed of five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models”

Clinical Collaboration in the Genomics Cloud Project
• Neuroblastoma is a childhood and infant cancer with an annual incidence of about 650 cases per year in the U.S. and 100 cases per year in the U.K.
• In the last 30 years only 1 new drug has been approved by the FDA for paediatric cancer. Yet in the same timeframe over 50 new drugs have been approved for adults
• Paediatric oncologists therefore have to rely on adult drugs carefully titrated and targeted
• This is achieved by identifying the specific genetic vulnerabilities of each child’s tumour through next generation gene sequencing
• This requires significant clinical collaboration and computing power, all working against the clock

Clinical Collaboration in the Genomics Cloud Project
• Dell have collaborated with the Translational Genomics Research Institute and the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium to design a High Performance Computing and Collaboration Cloud solution
• As part of a clinical trial, T-Gen is using its genomic technology to help NMTRC identify personalised treatment strategies for children from 14 different treatment centres across the US and beyond
• Data objects can be up to 3TB in size with T-Gen managing 30TB in genomic data per patient
• To manage this Dell provided a solution with a maximum performance threshold of 13 teraflops based around 148 CPUs, 1,192 Cores and 7.1TB of RAM
