Program Name: Animal Science Program Description: Through practical hands-on experience this two year program prepares students for career opportunities and/or college admissions in the Animal Science careers. The “learning lab” for this program is located at Stone Wall Farms in Jeffersonville.

NEW SECOND YEAR OPTION: ANIMAL SCIENCE/NEW VISION This program is an exploratory program which is offered to select seniors who wish to pursue post secondary education in Agricultural Education.

• Exploratory experiences and instruction will concentrate on careers in Vet Tech and Veterinary Medicine.

• Students will receive an enhanced second year Animal Science curriculum. • This New Vision program provides students the opportunity to receive college credit through

dual enrollment.

Topics of Study: � Anatomy and physiology of large and small animals; animal care, livestock production, business

aspects of the industry, study of horses, dairy, beef, swine, sheep, poultry and small animals. Internships:

� Hands on experience at Stone Wall Farms in Jeffersonville. � Work study programs on local farms and/or agricultural based businesses; veterinary technicians;

veterinarian offices; feed mills; livestock dealers. Student Interests and Aptitudes:

Program Name: Auto Body Repair Program Description: The Auto Body collision repair and refinishing program prepares the students for gainful employment in the auto industry. During the two year program, consisting of 800 hours of instruction, the students learn the safe and proper way to repair and refinish automobiles. Topics of Study:

Program Name: CORE Program Description: Vocational program in which students gain exposure to, and practice basic concepts directly related to a variety of vocations and employment opportunities. The CORE experience allows students to make informed decisions about how their vocational training will unfold. Students can choose which program best fits their areas of interest or students may choose to cover both in two or more years.

NEW PROGRAM !!

Program Name: Pre-Tech Program Description The Pre-Tech Career Exploration program offers a project based experience for students in grades 9 and 10 that will give them the opportunity to earn 3 credits each year towards a Regent’s Diploma. This half day program emphasizes core character education, positive work habits, and life and communication skills, while giving students a glimpse of the vocational possibilities they may have at the Career and Technical Education Center as juniors and seniors.

Topics of Study: The program offers: • The exposure to and development of pre-vocational skills and positive work ethics. • Collaboration with home school districts, parents, and other student support services. • Ability to earn credit towards a Regent’s Diploma. • Access to career counselors and other professional staff with specialized expertise. • Small class size and differentiated instruction.

Students will spend 18 weeks in each of the two clusters, rotating through the individual courses listed. • Natural Resources and Technology

Program Name: Community Based Work Program (CBWP) Program Description: This program helps students with special needs learn essential workplace behavior and habits through real life work experiences. Developing independence and encouraging the student to transition from school to employment in the community is an integral component of this program.

� Students participate on the campus of CRMC (Catskill Regional Medical Center) through the Volunteer Department as they perform skills in various departments of the hospital.

� Program instruction is provided by the CTE teacher and supported by CRMC staff members. Topics of Study:

� Through volunteer form of work based learning students learn about specific careers and workplaces.

� Through active participation students learn skills including: planning, communicating, working with others, and completing tasks in a timely manner.

Internships:

� Students actively participate through the Volunteer Department of CRMC in areas of: Food Service, the Gift Shop, the Skilled Nursing Unit, Adult Day Care, Clerical Services, the Environmental Department and other areas.

Student Interests and Aptitudes:

� Ability to follow directions and safety rules. � Basic reading, writing, and communication skills. � Ability to interact with others in the community setting.

� Employment opportunities in health care: clerical services; food services; environmental services; and Volunteer services.

Program Name: Computer Repair & Networking

Program Description: This program prepares students for many of the tasks they will face in Information Technology careers. The focus of the curriculum is Computer Networking and areas of the Network + curriculum. The core of the class will be offered through the Cisco Systems Networking Academy.

Topics of Study: � Computer hardware assembly and maintenance � Operating systems including Microsoft Windows � Network cabling � Media and network security.

Internships: � Sullivan County BOCES Technology Department. � Operation and maintenance of CTE computer resource lab.

Student Interests and Aptitudes: � A strong math background is recommended as well as basic knowledge of computers. � Strong initiative and self starter skills; good work ethic. � Proactive thinker; problem solving skills essential.

Program Name: Construction Technology

Program Description: This one or two year program is the combined study of carpentry, electricity, and plumbing trades. Emphasis is on residential and light commercial construction. Students gain hands-on experience in both new construction and renovations. The NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research), International Uniform Building Code and National Electrical Code curriculums are used as guides for educational experiences.

Topics of Study: � Carpentry � Electricity � Cost estimation � Plumbing � Blue print drawing and reading

Green Technology Modules of (PV) photovoltaic technology and Green building principles � History of PV; types of PV systems; components of PV systems; how to size and build a system; energy audits and alternative (geothermal) heating and cooling systems

Program Name: Cosmetology Program Description: Cosmetology is a two year program for students who enjoy working with people, being creative and artistic, and who have the desire to learn a life long professional career. Theory and practical application are integral components of the program. Field trips, industry presentations, community service projects, and a student-run salon are key elements of the program. Topics of Study:

� Students learn the necessary skills to succeed in the cosmetology profession. � They receive instruction in the composition and care of hair, nails, and skin.

Internships:

� Operation of BOCES on site clinic, open to the public. � Providing cosmetology services to local nursing home residents.

Student Interests and Aptitudes:

� Ability to demonstrate good social and communicative skills; enjoy working with people. � Interest in being creative and artistic. � Some science background recommended. � Good Attendance is required.

Program Name: Culinary Arts

Program Description: The Culinary Arts and Sciences Program is a nationally certified Pro-Start Program – open to juniors and seniors. Students learn how to plan and prepare daily lunch and dinner menus as well as special catering functions. This is combined with integrated subjects that offer a national scholarship.

� Serendipity Café’- students operate a restaurant on Main Street Liberty providing students with marketing, public relations, and front/back of house operations.

Program Name: Custom Fabrication & Metalworking Program Description: This is a one or two-year program that is designed to give students the training and knowledge necessary to design, create, machine, and construct custom parts using computers and high tech tools. Students gain basic skills and knowledge to enter the workforce as entry-level machinist or to continue studies in a post secondary placement. Topics of Study: Students will begin instruction on manual machine tools then advance to CNC (Computer Numeric Control) state of the art machine tools from Haas CNC.

Program Name: Early Childhood Program Description: The one or two-year Early Childhood program provides in-depth study of early childhood education. Students identify the many different career opportunities open to early childhood graduates. The physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of children from birth to age nine is examined. The Early Childhood program is located near a preschool program for hands-on practice at Liberty High School. Topics of Study:

Program Name: Diversified Health Occupations Program Description: Diversified Health Occupations provides an opportunity to pursue health careers and/or certified nurse assistant training. The program acquaints high school students with a variety of health occupations including geriatrics, emergency services, home health care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy tech, central supply, veterinary services, dental assisting, radiology, and acute care experiences.

� Year One prepares the student with the basic theory and skills to continue with Year Two courses. � Year Two – students can pursue Nurse Assisting; Allied Health Careers, LPN* or Health Academy*

* Admission criteria must be met Year One: Introduction to Health Occupations – exploratory course Topics of Study

Program Name: Health Careers Academy / New Vision Program Program Description: One/two year program that is an academically rigorous program for college bound juniors and seniors who are interested in the health care field. Interdisciplinary immersion program based at Liberty High School, full or half day option for students. Students explore all health career opportunities within health care facilities and acute care/hospital settings. Health Academy- open to carefully selected Juniors (one year option for Seniors). Topics of Study:

Program Name: Practical Nursing Program Description: 20 month 12th and 13th year secondary extended Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program; students enter the program their senior year and complete the program after high school graduation (September-June). Designed to prepare students to enter the LPN nursing profession with the theories, competencies, attitudes, and abilities to provide high quality, safe, and appropriate care within various health care settings. This program offers 1188 hours of instruction including classroom, lab, and clinical experiences in preparation for the NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses). Topics of Study: Theory and skills related to Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN).

� Evolution of nursing; Personal, community and environmental health; Development of the individual and family; Anatomy and physiology; Nutrition, Nursing process; Basic patient care.

Internships:

� Clinical rotations at long term care facilities (SCACC, Roscoe Nursing Home, Achieve, CRMC. � Full day clinical (8:00AM-2:00PM) on Tuesdays from December- June.

Program Name: GED Test Preparation

Program Description: GED exam preparation program designed to meet each student’s specific needs. Class includes both group and individual instruction, fully preparing students for the GED exam. Students work in collaboration with the instructor to determine their pace of study and test date. Support is offered to help students successfully transition into college, trade school, or the workplace after they earn their GED. Topics of Study: - English Language Arts - Science - Math - Social Studies - Career Exploration - Self and Community Internships:

- Program includes some community service as an aspect of the career exploration and self and community components of the program.

Student Interests and Aptitudes:

- Sense of responsibility; ability to follow directions and rules. - Strong attendance. - Basic reading, writing, and math skills. - The desire and motivation to work hard and make a fresh start.

Career Opportunities: - Anything is possible. It will depend upon the student’s interests, aptitudes, and the path they take after earning their GED. GED students often go on to trade school or community college. Once successful in community college, students can transfer into four-year colleges. Program Name: Broadband Academy

Program Description: The Broadband Academy will offer instruction in connectivity systems and telecommunication technologies. The curriculum is organized into five separate modules or tiers. Upon successful completion of a module/tier the student will be eligible to obtain certification in that area. Each training module boasts a unique curriculum designed to prepare students for a professional future in this field by giving them the information base and skill sets desired by employers in this industry. ENROLLMENT PROCESS

1. Participate in our orientation program. If you are in 10th and 11th grade, the Career & Technical Education (CTE) orientation is held in November and December at your school.

2. Sign up with your school guidance counselor for a tour of all of the Career & Technical Education programs and facilities. “Walk Through Tours” will be given in January and February.

3. If you are interested in visiting your chosen programs, contact your guidance counselor to set up a half-day or full-day visit. Visits are set up during the months of January through March.

4. Discuss your Career & Technical Education plan with your parents and school personnel. Talk to your parents, school guidance counselor, teachers, and CTE counselor about whether a CTE program is the best option for you. Make sure you have as much input as possible before making your decision.

5. OPEN HOUSE February – Bring your family and friends.

6. During the spring semester make a final decision about participating. If you would like to attend a CTE program, be sure to include the program of your choice in your education plans.

7. Complete and return the Career & Technical Program Application” to your guidance counselor by the due date in April.

8. Make sure you follow through on submitting your school records and required supplemental applications to the CTE office.

Every attempt is made to place students in an appropriate program in which the student will be successful.
