DEAKIN ACCELERATEIn 2016, Deakin launched our new VCE higher education program Deakin Accelerate; allowing high achieving VCE students to study two first year university subjects in year 12.We are excited to welcome 109 new students from across Victoria into the program for 2017. CAREERS PRACTITIONERS SEMINAR 2017 – REVIEWWe would like to extend a huge thank you to all who attended our recent Careers Practitioners seminar on Monday 13th February at Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus. The day’s theme was innovation, and addressed the many ways that Deakin are practicing innovation in higher education. Attendees heard from two special guests at the seminar; Deakin’s Chief Digital Officer, William Confalonieri who spoke at length about digital innovation and Jess Holsman, a Deakin psychology graduate who is inspiring thousands worldwide via her YouTube channel and her stationary line, seed.ED educationary. Attendees also explored our Waurn Ponds campus during a range of interactive and engaging workshops.Presentations from the days event are available at deakin.edu.au/career-practitioners/resources

FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND LAW New Deakin Law ClinicsThe Deakin University Law School is now operating two new law clinics as learning legal firms. Deakin law students will take on and manage real clients and real cases. Students are able to choose between the Venture Law Clinic or the Civil and Commercial Law Clinic as units in their final year of study.Clinic supervisors and specialist legal practitioners will oversee and manage the students from initial client intake through to closing of file. The clinics are a good opportunity for students to expand on academic knowledge and build legal skills, so they emerge from study job ready. FACULTY OF HEALTH#1 Sport science school in the world!The School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences was recently ranked the #1 sport science school in the world!* Our Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science was the first course to be accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) in Victoria. The course gives students access to industry connections and practical experience through learning partnerships with some of Victoria’s top sporting organisations including; the Geelong Cats, Melbourne Boomers, and the Victorian Institute of Sport. Students learn from the best in the field and have exposure to cutting-edge research that solves real-world problems in exercise, physical activity and sport. Folio preparation and skills development at the National Gallery of Victoria, Federation SquareIdeal for students studying VCE and are looking for guidance and inspiration to help prepare their folios and assessment pieces. Led by Deakin University’s senior design lecturer within the School of Communication and Creative Arts, this hands on, collaborative session is a unique opportunity to work with likeminded creative individuals and will give students the confidence needed to become a successful creative arts practitioner. New language courses in Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Spanish Students interested in adding an international aspect to their degrees by learning a language, can do so by including 4 credit points of language study as part of their bachelor’s degree. These will then carry over into our four new language diplomas in Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, and Spanish.
