Her Theory • Carol Vernallis theory places focus upon the editing of music videos. She comments on Narrative, Editing, Camera

moving and framing and Narrative.

• Editing: • She noticed that the editing was far more frequent in music videos than in film, meaning that shots rarely linger or

place emphasis on a single series of shots. In addition she also noticed that music videos don't follow the traditional sense of continuity editing making the actions much more exciting and intriguing. Moreover the audience attention is also grabbed due to music videos frequent use of post production effects. This is further used in conjunction with jump cuts to speed up the narrative and performance due to the short time frame of the song.

• Camera:• Vernallis also recognised that the camera typically moves in a way that runs in time with the rhythm of the song.

• Narrative: • She further suggested that while narratives are constructed within the videos they are only suggested and even more

so rarely completed.

• Framing/angles: • Finally Vernallis noticed that the angles and framing of these videos all feature extreme version of typical shots found

in films. Low angle shots, long shots extreme close ups etc are all used frequently and without subtlety to further engage the audience and make a visually interesting product.
