About the Presenters:Ike Dweck is the Executive Director of SAFE, a New York State licensed drug, alcohol and gambling outpatient treatment program located in Brooklyn, NY. Treatment at SAFE is provided by a multi-disciplinary team, seamlessly coordinating medical, behavioral, alternative and 12-Step modalities in a dignified recovery environment. Services include individual counseling and psychotherapy, group counseling, family counseling, codependency groups, parent groups, relapse prevention, early recovery group, drug screening and monitoring, family program, couples counseling, psychiatric evaluation and medical monitoring. Rabbi Menachem Goldberger is a nationally sought-after Teacher and Spiritual Mentor who has served as the Rabbi of Tiferes Yisroel, an orthodox congregation in Baltimore, for 27 years. Rabbi Goldberger received a BA in psychology with an emphasis in counseling from the University of Denver and upon arriving in Baltimore, received training specifically in the area of addiction and recovery. Drawing upon his background in psychology, in combination with a spiritually-informed perspective of human growth and development, he has counseled hundreds of individuals, couples and families, offering sound advice and guidance to those dealing with chemical dependencies. Born in Denver, Colorado, Rabbi Goldberger is a sixth generation rabbi and a disciple of Rabbi Shloime Twersky. Rabbi Goldberger will be addressing

the “Halachos” (Code of Jewish Law or literally, “The Way”) as it pertains to various issues that can arise in addiction treatment and recovery, such as Sabbath observance, mixed gender treatment, Kosher adherence in inpatient settings, meetings held in churches, and prayer, that may be cited by clients as roadblocks to seeking treatment or can serve to enhance recovery. Rabbi Meir Kessler serves as Chaplain and consultant at Caron Renaissance. He was ordained in 2001 in Israel by the head rabbi of Jerusalem, and is the Director of the Jewish Recovery Center in Boca Raton, Florida. Rabbi Kessler began his career in South Florida in nearby Delray Beach, where he observed the need to make the spiritual principles of Orthodox Judaism accessible to people in recovery. The Rabbi offers weekly Shabbat services with a recovery focus and operates a halfway house for people who need additional recovery support. He serves as one of Caron Renaissance’s Spiritual Friday leaders and has presented seminars and workshops to the general public through his relationship with Chabad of Boca Raton.
