Tutorial 6:Introduction to dummy positioning

Case description:

This tutorial uses LSTC's updated Hybrid III Rigid 50th Percentile Dummy (see documentation in

zip file below for more details).

Files required:

LSTC.H3.103008 V1.0.zip, belted_mod.zip

Step 1: Open unoccupied seat model

1. launch LS-PrePost

2. File → Open → LS-DYNA Keyword File

3. open belted_mod.k

4. click Left render button

5. click Hide render button

Step 2: Import dummy into model

1. File → Import → LS-DYNA Keyword File

2. import LSTC.H3.060707_Beta_Rigid.50th.k

3. click Setting Offset (not Import Offset) in Import File dialog

4. enter Default Offset=1000000 in the second Import File dialog

5. click Set

6. click Import

Step 3 : Translate dummy to correct H-Point

1. note: the previous step will bring you automatically to Application->Dummy Positioning

2. select H-Point operations

3. select Translate

4. enter X=3060, press Enter on keyboard

5. enter Y=-334, press Enter on keyboard

6. enter Z=440, press Enter on keyboard

7. click AutCen render button

Step 4: Rotate dummy to face forward

1. select Rotate in side panel

2. select Z Axis

3. enter Rot. Ang.=180, press Enter on keyboard

4. click "+

Step 5: Recline dummy in seat

1. select Y Axis in bottom panel

2. enter Rot. Ang.=22, press Enter on keyboard

3. click "-"

Step 6: Position lower arms

1. select Limb operations in side panel

2. select "lower_arm_right" from the list

3. select Rotate axis Z in bottom panel

4. enter Rot. Ang.=90, press Enter on keyboard

5. click "-"

6. select "lower_arm_left" from the list

7. select Rotate axis Z

8. click "-"

Step 7: Position lower legs

1. select "lower_leg_right" from the list

2. enter Rot. Ang.=20, press Enter on keyboard

3. click "-"

4. select "lower_leg_left" from the list

5. click "-"

Step 8 : Create part set for seatbelt contact

1. FEM->Model and Part->Create Entity

2. note: when leaving the DmyPos interface, you will be prompted to save occupant changes to

the database - click Yes

3. select Create

4. choose set type *SET_PART

5. enter Title: pelvic and torso

6. select ByPart in gen select panel

7. enter ID 1000058,1000065 and press Enter on keyboard

8. click Apply

9. select Show

10. click None

Step 9: Create seatbelt to dummy contacts

1. FEM->Model and Part->Keyword Manager

2. select [*]AUTOMATIC_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE

3. click Edit

4. select 2 in right box

5. click NewID in the KEYWORD INPUT popup form

6. enter TITLE: belt to dummy contact

7. select SSTYP=3

8. select MSTYP=2

9. click the SSID link button (dot)

10. select "1738" in Link PART Dialog

11. click Done in Link SET Dialog

12. click the MSID link button (dot)

13. select "1000013 pelvic and torso" in Link SET Dialog

14. click Done in Link SET Dialog

15. enter FS=FD=0.2

16. enter VDC=BT=0.0

17. enter SFS=SFM=1.0

18. activate A

19. select SOFT=2

1. click All in Keyword Manager dialog

2. select CONTACT-> RIGID_BODY_ONE_WAY_TO_RIGID_BODY from the list

3. click Edit

4. click NewID in the KEYWORD INPUT popup form

5. enter TITLE: butt to seat

6. select SSTYP=3

7. select MSTYP=3

8. click the SSID link button (dot)

9. select 1000072 in Link PART Dialog

10. click Done in Link PART Dialog

11. click the MSID link button (dot)

12. select "1502 SEAT CUSHION" in Link PART Dialog

13. click Done in Link PART Dialog

14. enter FS=FD=0.2

15. click the LCID link button (dot)

16. select 48 in Link DEFINE Dialog

17. click Done in Link DEFINE Dialog

18. enter US=0.75

19. click Accept

21. enter TITLE: right thigh to seat

27. enter TITLE: left thigh to seat

28. click the SSID link button (dot)

29. select 1000066 in Link PART Dialog

30. click Done in Link PART Dialog

31. click Accept

Step 11: Set termination time

1. FEM->Model and Part->Keyword Manager

2. click All

3. select CONTROL->TEMINATION from the list

4. click Edit

5. enter ENDTIM=120 in the KEYWORD INPUT popup form

6. click Accept

7. click Done

Step 12: Save the model

1. File →Save As →Save Keyword As...

2. enter Filename: positioned_dummy.k
