CASE STUDY ASSEMBLY SERVICES WOOD GROUP EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This opportunity originated in Brazil with Wood Group who were required to confirm the ongoing condition of flexible flowlines at various locations worldwide. As the current manifold design wasn’t suitable for long term pressure monitoring, Wood Group were on the search for possible solutions. ABOUT THE CUSTOMER Wood Group have an exisiting purchasing history with Swagelok Scotland having purchased hoses and manifolds previously. SCOPE OF SUPPLY Assembly services; manifold design including ball valves, fittings, tubing and check valves. THE CHALLENGES The main challenge was the design. Swagelok Assembly Services reviewed the specifications and determined this project was achievable in the timescale and to Wood Group specifications. Throughout this process, the agility of the Wood Group team and the Swagelok team, ensured that challenges were worked through. THE SOLUTION Wood Group proposed the replacement of the flexible manifolds. The manifold is designed using small bore tubing and fittings to allow a compact solution for monitoring and testing. The proposed system included cracking check valves as a safety mechanism to avoid over pressurisation of the annulus and bore of the flexibles. Wood Group specified the use of Swagelok fittings and tubing.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThis opportunity originated in Brazil with Wood Group who were required to confi rm the ongoing condition of fl exible fl owlines at various locations worldwide. As the current manifold design wasn’t suitable for long term pressure monitoring, Wood Group were on the search for possible solutions.

ABOUT THE CUSTOMERWood Group have an exisiting purchasing history with Swagelok Scotland having purchased hoses and manifolds previously.

SCOPE OF SUPPLYAssembly services; manifold design including ball valves, fi ttings, tubing and check valves.

THE CHALLENGESThe main challenge was the design. Swagelok Assembly Services reviewed the specifi cations and determined this project was achievable in the timescale and to Wood Group specifi cations. Throughout this process, the agility of the Wood Group team and the Swagelok team, ensured that challenges were worked through.

THE SOLUTIONWood Group proposed the replacement of the flexible manifolds. The manifold is designed using small bore tubing and fi ttings to allow a compact solution for monitoring and testing. The proposed system included cracking check valves as a safety mechanism to avoid over pressurisation of the annulus and bore of the fl exibles. Wood Group specifi ed the use of Swagelok fi ttings and tubing.

The tubing was rated far in excess of any pressure that could possibly be seen in the annulus. Riser external sheathes are not designed to be pressure retaining and will generally fail under pressure. The tubing and fi ttings Wood Group proposed for installation were rated to 350barg and include the contingency of a check valve.

In addition to the tubing, Wood Group proposed appropriate gauges were fi tted to the manifold to allow the pressure to be monitored or checked prior to any future workscopes taking place.

THE RESULTSWood Group ordered 12 manifolds, delivered August 2016. The manifolds were built in our Assembly Services workshop in Glasgow, with rigorous inspection and testing by Wood Group taking place in our Aberdeen facility.

REASON FOR SUCCESSDue to the collaboration between Swagelok and Wood Group, this allowed for open communication between the customer site in Brazil and Aberdeen. This was enhanced by the close working relationship Swagelok have with Wood Group and our past experience in supplying hoses and manifolds. This project allowed Swagelok Scotland to demonstrate to Wood Group how we are prepared to go above and beyond to meet our customers needs. The knowledge and expertise of the Assembly Services team resulted in being able to build and deliver a bespoke solution to meet our customers specifi c needs in a time critical timescale.
