CUSTOMER BACKGROUND

The LNJ Bhilwara Group is one of the largest textile groups in India in the field of manmade fibers, yarns, fabrics and prides itself for its quality. It exports about 44% of its total turnover annually, which is a very rare distinction in India. Bhilwara has five-business units viz., Rajasthan Spinning & Weaving Mills Limited (3 locations), Marol Spinning Mills (Indore & Jammu) with its corporate office at Noida.

Apart from textiles the group had vested interest in Elec-trographite, Hydel power, Sponge iron, and in Infotech. The Groups’ annual turnover is 2500 crores and currently employs around 22,000 employees.

NEED FOR A SOLUTION

The standalone and legacy payroll system didn’t cater to the complex salary structures, MIS and other relevant issues pertaining to 14,540 employees across five busi-ness units. The employee records were treated manually and the time and wage management was indeed a chal-lenging arena. Moreover, with the huge manufacturing set up, the human capital management was so complex because of non-uniformity in the personal policies across locations.

THE SOLUTION

LNJ Bhilwara implemented the complete suite of Ramco HRMS. The following are the modules implemented.

IMPLEMENTATION PHASES

The implementation started off with identification of core team comprising of IT users and key users. After training the team on Change Management, the team was given the task of identifying the current needs and the expecta-tions from the new system. An analysis was done with the objective of exploiting the system to its fullest extent and all the gaps were listed out.

A uniform policy was adopted for coding the masters and rules for all locations. Further a strict code of conduct and responsibility areas were drafted for attendance recording, transfer of data from ARS to Ramco HRMS, amendment of data and for handling deviations.

The project started with the Business Mapping Report in Feb 2000. Initially a location specific BMR was initiated and later it was consolidated across locations. This was followed by a training program for 22 key users.

The pilot implementation was done at Rajasthan & Indore and the rollout was done in other locations in Jan 2001. Further there was only 2-3% customization done on the base product.

The implementation is decentralized with 5 servers with Windows NT as the operating system and SQL 2K as the RDBMS. The most significant factor was the project was completed well within time and budget.

The HRMS package offered by Ramco (part of Ramco’s e.Applications ERP suite) scored on all these parameters. Thus LNJB chose to implement Ramco.
