“When I am not doing that I assist in
the office and do general maintenance
work.
“I get a thrill from seeing people
achieve; the smile on a grandma’s face
when she learns to send and receive
pictures to and from her grandchildren is
heart-warming.
“I would highly recommend volun-
teering - it is extremely rewarding.”
Nominations for the regional awards
close on Friday with seven of the nine
category winners to receive $2000 into
an account in their name from Bank of
Melbourne.
The other two category winners will
receive a PRIME7 Television Package
and one of the nine category winners
will be named the “Bank of Melbourne
Regional Achiever of the Year” and will
receive an additional $2000 and state
trophy.
“I initially rejected the idea of being a
local hero; I am just helping out, nothing
special,” Graeme said.
“If the award can help promote NEMA
and the wonderful work all of the volun-
teers do there and enthuse others to vol-
unteer anywhere in our community, then
that will be reward for me.”
NEMA president Susan Ingleton said
Graeme’s knowledge and understand-
ing has been invaluable to the North
East Multicultural Association.
“Not only is his skill and personal-
ity able to engage and enthuse the
students in his English as a second lan-
guage classes but his ability to navigate
and advocate in cross cultural situations
is appreciated by all,” she said.
“Graeme is very patient and under-
standing as he tackles the sometimes
difficult task of assisting people of all
ages, languages, backgrounds and edu-
cational standards to access the internet
and use computers, smart phones and
electronic devices for pleasure, as well
as the necessities of contacting Cen-
trelink, other government departments,
and staying connected to family and cul-
tural communities.
“He also keeps our internal office
computer network functioning efficiently
and securely.
“His musical talent is well known in
the community and is appreciated at
NEMA social events.
“Graeme is our ‘go to man’ as he
calmly, patiently and efficiently deals
with the many and varied situations that
present each day.
“He is a unique person with a wonder-
ful variety of gifts and knowledge which
he generously uses to help all who call
upon him.”
To submit a nomination, simply go on-
