We had a most successful Kindergarten 2019 Transition this week with our numbers reaching 100 students enrolled. We anticipate 120 students for 2019. Parents and Carers had the opportunity to hear about wonderful opportunities and experiences their children will have in their first year at school. Our new kindergarten students were very settled as they met each other and the current kindergarten teachers were able to work with them and get to know them. There were lots of smiles and conversations in the classrooms. Our next transition afternoon is on Wednesday 24 October followed by our third and final transition afternoon on Thursday 1 November. Both transitions will run from 1pm – 2.30pm. We look forward to seeing you then! We had our first Principals Award celebration this week prior to an AMAZING PBL Assembly. We recognised students nominated by their teachers for this award and parents and carers were invited to join us for afternoon tea. This week too we celebrate superstar student performances in debating and public speaking. How proud we are of these student’s effort and achievements. Congratulations to the students involved! We launched our new website this week. Hayley Campbell has been doing an enormous amount of work on it. We will be launching a new school app after the holidays as the licence on the current app expires at the end of October. The new app is called Schoolstream and has some fabulous features I know parents and carers will find very useful. Stay tuned. A message from the Principal Staffing News Mr Vanderwey commenced leave today. It was absolutely delightful yesterday being in 6V’s classroom as Nathan was heading home. His class were SOOOOOO excited for him!!!! Mr Vanderwey will be taking paternity leave until Friday 9 November. Whilst on leave 6V will be taught by Mr Chand. Safe Driving Around Our School I seek your support in ensuring you take extra care when driving around our school. It has been reported to me that there are parents and carers not observing the road rules and jeopardising the safety of their children and others. I implore you to follow the road rules for the safety and wellbeing of all students at Casula PS. Please drive at 40km or less so that you are alert to the pedestrians in the vicinity. Remember you ARE able to get out of your car in the kiss and drop zone to ensure a safe exit from the vehicle. Please, be mindful that safe travel to and from school is in everyone’s interest. Fruit and Vegetables Thank you to all the fabulous families who are sending their children to school with fresh fruit and vegetables to eat throughout the day ! The healthiest, most nourishing and perhaps the most convenient snack to send your child to school with! Be it an apple, banana, mandarin, pear, cucumber, watermelon, banana, rockmelon, orange, celery, carrot or berries. These foods sustain learning at school and feed growth and contribute to wellbeing. Could you please check when you are packing lunches and snacks that you include fruit or vegetables. Our canteen also provides a fruit and vegetable option on a daily basis as does our Breakfast Club on Mondays and Thursdays. Classroom teachers and students have fruit breaks during the morning where your children are encouraged to eat their fruit and have a drink of water – there’s also an opportunity to include fruit and vegies in their morning tea and lunch. Have you heard?

We had a most successful Kindergarten 2019 Transition this week with our numbers reaching 100 students enrolled. We anticipate 120 students for 2019. Parents and Carers had the opportunity to hear about wonderful opportunities and experiences their children will have in their first year at school. We had our first Principals Award celebration this week prior to an AMAZING PBL Assembly. We recognised students nominated by their teachers for this award and parents and carers were invited to join us for afternoon tea.

Respectful Relationships From time to time students have conflict with one another and in some instances these behaviours occur a number of times. If such incidents occur it is important when your child speaks to you about it that you address it with the class teacher, an Assistant Principal or Team Leader, a Deputy Principal or myself. Student voice is always given and we invest much time and energy in seeking to solve, looking at consequences and moving forward with strategies. Higher level issues are tapped in on and followed up regularly to ensure all students are safe and happy at school.

Over the holidays, our students need time to relax, reenergise and ready themselves for Term 4. It would be greatly appreciated that on returning to school you discuss the importance of keeping hands, feet and unkind words to ourselves. Conflict quickly esca-lates when these issues are left unaddressed. I truly appreciate the parents who have contacted the executive to address issues arising early so they are redirected into positive and productive behaviours and friendships.

School Times Please note school starts at 9am promptly. All students are required to have had their names marked off on their class rolls by 9.10am. After 9.10am you are required to sign your child in at the front office. If your child is signed in after 9.10am this is referred to as a partial absence.

Our school finishes at 3pm. All students are to be picked up promptly. Before and After School Care is available on site for parents to access. We are not able to provide supervision (teachers or administration staff) for your children after school as all teachers have commitments to meetings and professional learning. Administration staff are not permitted to supervise students under their conditions of employment.

School Uniform With warmer spring days here I remind you of the importance of wearing correct school uniform.

Black school shoes are to be worn every day and coloured sport shoes on Thursday (K-2) and Friday (3-6). School hats are part of the school uniform – coloured hats can be worn on mufti days. Hijabs are blue and available at the school office or the Liverpool Uniforms & Embroidery Shop.

Wearing school uniform is part of the pride and respect we instil and grow in our students at Casula PS. Students are acknowledged for and rewarded with Casula Champions for their effort and attention to being part of our school community.

Could we please check your Emergency Contacts Please, if you or the people listed on your emergency contacts for your children have changed their MOBILE PHONE NUMBERS I ask you come to the office or email the school to update them. Please consider the importance of this as it is most distressing for your children when you are uncontactable and your child is either injured or inadvertently has not been picked up at school.

School commences at 9am and rolls are marked at 9.10am. School finishes at 3pm. ALL students are to be picked up at 3pm. In the case of an emergency, if you phone the office by 2.45pm we will be able to get a message to your child however, after that we are not able to ensure we can. I seek your support in ensuring your child/children are picked up promptly. Staff have meetings and duties to attend once the 3pm bell has rung. Please be mindful we all have responsibilities.

HighSchool Visitors High School students are welcome in our school when picking up siblings. I do ask however that they respect the rules of our school and not play ball games in the playground whilst it is learning time. Student’s toilets are NOT to be used by High School students.

Our school is a ‘nut aware’ school A reminder to all parents and carers that we are a ‘nut aware’ school and need to be aware of the number of children your child goes to school with that has high level allergies. Many of these allergies being life threatening. We seek your support in being mindful when packing lunches to choose carefully. Many of our students are allergic to nuts, tree nuts, strawberries, egg and kiwi fruit. If at all possible please encourage your child to eat these products at home. I am mindful too that some students have a limited range of foods in their diet and this can at times cause concern. At school we have strategies in place to keep all students safe.

You are invited to join us at Breakfast Club on Monday and Thursday mornings – it’s delicious!! Parents and Carers, Grandparents and Aunts, Uncles and cousins – they are all invited to assist in cooking and serving - come along and join us.

Students and staff are back at school on Monday 15 October for a 9am start. Thank you for your support this term! Have a fabulous two week spring holiday with your children – enjoy the sunshine and every mo-ment together. See you back here very soon Robyn Evans

Please remember to tap on and tap off when travelling to and from school by bus.

Opal data gathered by tapping on and off is used to determine demand for bus services. If students don’t tap on and tap off, services may be cancelled due to the lack of recorded patronage.
