Jute is a strong natural fiber that is biodegradable and reusable. These bags are laminated with a very thin film of plastic which is heat sealed to the inside of the bag and protects against spills. This adds overall stiffness to the fabric, so it will stand up by itself. They work great as grocery bags, shopping bags and all-around carry bags.
