Caterpillar Counting Mats

Grade Level: Early Childhood Description: An innovative way to have the students learn their numbers. Students form circles out of play-dough and fill the correct number of circles on the empty caterpillar body. Completed cards are provided for the students to use as guides. Students should count the number of play dough circles to make sure they completed the activity correctly. How to download:

Goals/Objectives: Students will form the correct amount of balls needed to match the number shown on the mat. Materials Needed:
Play Dough
Color Printer
Cardstock
Laminator Instructions:
1. Print the mats on cardstock and cut in half. Laminate the mats. 2. Give each student a chunk of play-dough and an empty caterpillar mat. 3. The students should form balls out of the play-dough. They should then place the
correct number of balls on the caterpillar’s body. 4. Students can use the completed caterpillar mats as guides while they work or to self-
check their work when they are done. Variations: Use this activity in your manipulative center with circle game pieces.
