Jesus invites us to dwell within His Presence. And there to come to know the breadth and depth of His love, mercy and kindness that He shows to us. While it’s nice to read or study about the love and mercy of God, how radically different it is from experienc-ing His love and mercy. So I invite you this Lenten season to carve out a few extra minutes every week to be s ll before God in our Adora on Chapel. Qui-et your heart that you might hear His heart speak: Heart to heart.

Yes, come with all your concerns and worries; come with all your hopes and desires; come with all your fears and unmet dreams; come with all your sin and what burdens you down; come as you are. But most importantly simply come with your heart. Place it all before Jesus present in the Blessed Sacra-ment. Quietly sit in His presence. Gaze upon Him as He tenderly gazes upon you. Listen to His quiet voice: Heart to heart. How blessed to experience the love of God in so in mate a way in our Adora on Chapel. “Be s ll and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) “Jesus went up on a moun-tain by himself to pray.” (Ma hew 14:22)“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with that person and they with me.” (Revela on 3:20) “My soul finds rest in God.” (Psalm 62:1)

Jesús nos invita a morar dentro de su presencia. Y para llegar a conocer la amplitud y profundidad de su amor, misericordia y bondad que nos muestra. Si bien es agradable leer o estudiar sobre el amor y la misericordia de Dios, cuán radicalmente diferente es experimentar Su amor y misericordia. Así que te invito esta temporada de Cuaresma para que aproveches unos mi-nutos extra cada semana para estar en silencio ante Dios en nuestra Iglesia cada Jueves y en la Capilla de Adoración todos los dias. Tranquiliza tu corazón para que puedas escuchar a Su corazón hablarte: de Corazón a corazón.

Sí, ven con todas tus inquietudes y preocupaciones; ven con todas tus espe-ranzas y deseos; ven con todos tus miedos y sueños insa sfechos; ven con todos tus pecados y lo que te agobia; ven tal como eres. Pero lo más impor-tante simplemente ven con todo tu corazón. Ponlo todo delante de Jesús pre-sente en el San simo Sacramento. Siéntate en silencio en su presencia. Míra-lo mientras Él te mira ernamente. Escuche su voz tranquila: de Corazón a corazón. Qué bendición experimentar el amor de Dios de una manera tan ín ma en nuestra Iglesia todos los Jueves y en la Capilla de Adoración todos los días.

"Estad quietos, y conoced que yo soy Dios". (Salmo 46:10) " Jesus subió a la montaña para orar a solas ". (Mateo 14:22) "Mira que estoy a la puerta y lla-mo. el pecado y ser fieles al Evangelio. En el Evangelio del domingo pasado Jesús se fue al de-sierto y allí fue tentado por el diablo. Hoy Jesús sube a un monte elevado y allí es transfigu-rado frente a sus discípulos más ín mos. Ya sea apartado en el desierto o acompañado de sus amigos en lo alto de un monte, Jesús permanece fiel a la voluntad de Dios. Que él sea

nuestro mo- delo.

En el Evangelio Jesús es transfigurado. Su rostro brilla como el sol, su ropa se vuelve blanca como la luz. Él está con sus amigos más ín mos y también con Moisés y Elías. Ellos escuchan a Dios, cuya voz sale de una nube: “Éste es mi Hijo muy amado” (Mateo 17, 5). Dentro de sólo unas pocas semanas Jesús será desfigurado. Le van a pegar, a flagelar, a escupir, se van a burlar de él y le pondrán una corona de espinas. Los clavos atravesarán sus manos y pies para clavarlo en la cruz. Sus amigos lo abandonarán. Ninguna voz saldrá de una nube; Jesús se creerá abandonado por el Padre. Los espectadores pensarán que está llamando a Elías. Nosotros debemos aceptar ambas imágenes de su iden dad: la Víc -ma desfigurada y el Señor transfigurado. Jesús, que es transfigurado hoy, es desfigurado por nuestros pecados, pero al final será transfigurado en su gloria. Las bendiciones de Dios no se nos dan copiosamente como recompensa por lo que hayamos hecho. Abram no había hecho nada significante antes del pasaje que escuchamos hoy donde Dios promete bendecirlo de cinco maneras dife-rentes: fundará una gran nación, será bendecido personalmente, bendecirá su nombre, bendecirá a los que lo bendi-gan y maldecirá a los que lo maldigan. Pablo le recuerda a Timoteo que Dios nos ha salvado “no porque lo merecieran nuestras obras, sino porque así lo dispuso (Dios) gratuitamente” (2 Timoteo 1, 9). La bendición defini va de Dios es, por supuesto, el mismo Jesús. No hicimos nada para merecer su encarnación y mucho menos para merecer su máximo sacrificio. La úl ma frase de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy suena como para arruinar una sorpresa: “No le cuenten a nadie lo que han visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre haya resucitado de entre los muertos” (Mateo 17, 9). Es como si Pedro, San a-go y Juan hayan presenciado un acontecimiento, cuyo avance pudiera arruinarle el final del mismo a otras personas. No hay que preocuparse. En el próximo capítulo de Mateo los discípulos discuten acerca de quién es el más importante. Tal parece que, una vez más, no han entendido. Todavía están batallando con el mandamiento de Dios: “Escúchenlo” (17, 5).

During this peniten al season we make a conscious effort to avoid sin and be faithful to the gospel. In last Sunday’s Gospel Jesus journeyed into the desert and was tempt-ed by the devil. Today Jesus climbs a high mountain on which he is transfigured in front of his closest disciples. Whether isolated in the wilderness or accompanied by friends on a moun-taintop, Jesus remains faithful to the will of God. May he be a model for us.

In the Gospel Jesus is transfigured. His face shines like the sun, his clothes be-

come white as light. He is joined by his closest friends, as well as Moses and Elijah. They hear God’s voice from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son” (Ma hew 17:5). In just a few weeks Jesus will be disfigured. He will be struck, scourged, spat upon, and mocked with a crown of thorns. Spikes will pierce his hands and

feet as he is nailed to a cross. His friends will have abandoned him. There will be no voice from a cloud; Jesus will believe himself forsaken by his Father. Bystanders will think he is calling for Elijah. We are called to accept both visions of his iden ty: the disfig-ured Vic m, the transfigured Lord. Transfigured today, Jesus becomes disfigured for our sins, to be transfigured in glory in the end.

God’s blessings are not showered down on us as a reward for anything we have done. Abram had done nothing of significance be-fore the passage we hear today, in which God promises to bless him in five ways (founder of a great na on, blessed personally, bless his name, bless those who bless him, curse those who curse him). Paul reminds Timothy that God saved us “not according to our works but according to (God’s) own design” (2 Timothy 1:9). God’s ul mate blessing, of course, is Jesus himself. We did noth-ing to merit his incarna on, let alone his ul mate sacrifice.

Jesus’ final line of today’s Gospel reads like a spoiler alert: “Do not tell the vision to anyone un l the Son of Man has been raised from the dead” (Ma hew 17:9). It is as if Peter, James, and John had seen an advance trailer that could ruin the ending for every-one else. No worries. In the next chapter of Ma hew, the disciples argue over who is the greatest. It appears that they have missed the point once again. They are s ll struggling with God’s command: “Listen to him” (17:5).

Prayer: What greater gi could we give ourselves during Lent than the gi of prayer? The fruits of developing a disciplined me of prayer are boun-

ful. Make plans for a prayer me each day. Do not wait un l you “find me” but make a me of prayer your priority. This will involve sacrifice on your part – perhaps giving up some television viewing me, using part of your lunch hour, or ge ng up in the morning earlier than usual. Along the way, spend some me in extra prayer with the community: a weekday Mass, Sta ons of the Cross. Whatever you decide, resolve to spend more me with the Lord.
