THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE TREASURE

Jesus takes the ordinary for his story asking what you would really want never to lose/ asking what your treasure is. Is it money, reputation, locality? I gave up a better job but had time for the family and for love’; words of a young father. We know that parents give up a lot for their children; as do grandparents/ godparents and others. As people we look for what’s most important in life: the love of God; deep and enduring friendships/ success after hard work in school/ commitment to the poor – what cannot be lost and what is worth sacrificing other good things for. Life is a mixture of the good and the bad. There is an old Dublin saying: ‘There’s good in the worst of us and bad in the best of us. We work for God with the strengths and weaknesses of all we work with. God sows the seed of the gospel in good and bad soil; it bears fruit in its own way wherever it is sown. The treasure is in our people. So much hidden generosity comes out at bad times – floods, power cuts, illness and death. We need always to find the hidden treasures in our own people and even in our history. The kingdom of God is close, near and is within us.

Think of what you really value in life. Take time.

Give thanks to God for what brings deep joy in life.

Thy Kingdom Come, Lord Jesus.

Baptism

This week we warmly welcome:

Vera Nazaria Lu

into God’s family and the Holy Spirit community. Congratulations to the Lu family!

PLANNED GIVING ENVELOPES Planned giving envelopes for the next half year are now available at the front of the church. Receipts for Direct debits and Credit cards are also available. If you do not have a set of planned giving envelopes and would like to use them, please complete the form at the top of page 2 and place on the collection plate or hand it to the Priest.

KNIGHTS SILVER CIRCLE: It is with regret that our upcoming selling of Circle tickets which was to be held early August will not proceed due to the Covid restrictions, for the safety of parishioners and members of the Knights. God willing, we will (with the support of our Parish Priests) be back in March of 2021. Thanks to our buyers of tickets, we are still able to offer some support to local charities from monies already raised earlier this year!

IMPORTANT REMINDER It has been a blessing to be able to come to Mass in greater numbers. In our church we are allowed 80 people at any one time and of course registering beforehand and getting to Mass early makes things easier when we actually get here. Please note the 9.00am Thursday school Masses have resumed which unfortunately means that there will often not be space for parishioners to attend Mass at that time. Please note also that weekend Masses, particularly the 9.00am Sunday Mass is often oversubscribed. For that reason it is essential to register, either online or by calling the office. Registration needs to be completed before 4.00pm on the Friday before the weekend. After that, the office is unattended and any registration will not be recorded on the sign-in sheet. The increased numbers mean that we all have a responsibility to comply with all the social distancing, sanitising and cleaning requirements

that the Archdiocese and Qld Government have mandated and to stay home if we are unwell. These requirements are important to keep us all safe and to make sure our church is allowed to stay open and is a safe place to worship. We each have a part to play. By making sure we keep 1.5m away from each other when we sign in, when sitting at the spots marked with dots and when we walk down for Holy Communion, we are doing our bit. By sanitising our hands on entering and leaving the church and wiping where we have sat with disinfectant wipes, we are doing out bit. These measures are important for all of us but especially so for those of us in the vulnerable groups. The Queensland Health Guidelines have identified the following as vulnerable groups: • Queenslanders over 70 years of age • Queenslanders over 65 with underlying health issues • First Nations Queenslanders over the age of 50 with one or more chronic disease. Together we can do what is required and together our faith will get us through these challenging times. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss these requirements, please call Marie on 0412 981 026.

“For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” - St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Holy Spirit Church is a beacon of community and hope in Pine Rivers. As we pray for the constant guidance by the Holy Spirit during this period of isolation and social distancing, we’re embarking on an unusual project. Through the generous help of everyone in the parish, we would be producing videos that showcases community spirit, hope and faith through the recitation of our most loved prayers. In line with this, we’re inviting all parishioners to submit their creative and faithful videos reciting the lines of the following prayers (and submission cut-off dates):

a. Pandemic Prayer, 30 June 2020 b. Lord's Prayer, 30 June 2020 c. Apostles' Creed, 31 July 2020 d. Hail Mary, 31 July 2020 e. Glory Be, 31 July 2020 f. Nicene Creed, 30 August 2020

What do you need to submit your video?

1. Get a copy of the prayers and register your participation at the Parish Office. We’ll be reciting the same words in each of the prayers.

2. Make sure you have a good microphone (or the built-in) and smartphone, tablet or digital camera that can record in MP4 format.

3. Choose a safe, secure, quiet, bright room or sunny outdoors where you can sit or stand comfortably while recording your recital of the prayer.

4. Showcase your heritage, your work, favourite activity, stunning views, have religious images/statues/artwork behind you or invite workmates, friends and family to gather around or recite the prayers with you.

5. Light a candle and pray for the Holy Spirit to come and strengthen your gifts while reflecting on the words of the prayers.

6. Sleep well and take care of you throat so you’ll have a clear and calm voice. Recite the prayers in a constant relaxed pace.

7. Review what you’ve recorded, save the MP4 files into a USB memory stick and send to the Parish Office. Name the file with your registration number.

What do you do if you have any concerns?

8. Just call the Parish Office if you need help with any of these steps or if you would like to contribute in a different way to help us succeed in this project.

9. We’d be thrilled to have you volunteer any special talents, resources and/or time!

What do we do next? 10. We’ll be selecting segments from each submission and compile them into one video for each

prayer. 11. Once finalised, we’ll proudly show the videos in church services, evangelisation activities and

online channels, such as the Parish website, Facebook and YouTube. 12. We would be delighted to award videos that would be iconic or would win our hearts!
