SUNDAY: 17 JANUARY: 2ND SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME FROM THE PASTOR Dear parishioners, Today we hear about the wedding at Cana. It was the groom’s responsibility to provide wine for the wedding in the Jewish tradion. Jesus provides the wine for this wedding as a sign of his future myscal marriage to the church at the Last Supper and on the cross. In Cana he changes water into wine. At the Last Supper he changes wine into His Blood. His mother Mary is there at the wedding in Cana and at the cross. So Jesus is the new Adam and Mary is the new Eve. What the first Adam and Eve messed up in the beginning, the new Adam and Eve overcome and surpass in their own me. Mary shows her intercessory power with her son when she asks him to perform this miracle and like the waiters she tells us, “Do whatever He tells you.” Let us heed her command. I want to congratulate Mayor Jennifer Vidrine who received the Marn Luther King, Jr. award Friday night from our parish. She has certainly exemplified the values that he lived. Thank you Mayor Vidrine for all you have done. May God connue to bless Ville Plae. Go Ville Plae! Don’t forget the Foundaon banquet this Friday night at the civic center. Tom’s Joke of the Week A couple had two very mischievous lile boys, ages eight and ten, who were always geng into trouble. The parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their town their sons were probably involved. The boys’ mother heard that a monsignor in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The monsignor agreed. The mother sent the eight- year-old in first. The monsignor, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, “Where is God?” The boy’s mouth dropped open, but he made no response. He just sat there with his mouth hanging open, wide-eyed. So the monsignor repeated the queson in an even stronger tone, “Where is God?” Again the boy made no aempt to answer. So the monsignor raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy’s face and bellowed, “WHERE IS GOD?” The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.
