  • CALL FOR ABSTRACTSWEEF-GEDC-2018 - Albuquerque, NM USAhttp://weef-gedc2018.org

The University of New Mexico School of Engineering, in conjunction with the Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC) and the Global Innovation Network for Entrepreneurship and Technology (GINET), will host the combined WEEF-GEDC 2018 event to be held 12-16 November 2018 in Albuquerque, NM. This prestigious event, held for the first time in the United States, is the joint annual summit of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC). Also featured are the XV Global Student Forum and the first ever Global Career Fair.

The theme of the 2018 conference is Peace Engineering. Peace engineering envisions and works towards a world where prosperity, sustainability, social equity, entrepreneurship, transparency, community voice and engagement, and a culture of quality thrive. Engineers have the power to play a vital role in delivering creative solutions that can radically transform and improve human and natural wellbeing. As we educate future engineers, we must ensure that they embrace their role as engineers of peace. We must provide them with the skills, understanding, capacity for reflection, sense of social responsibility and ethics, and resources to successfully navigate the socio-political impacts of their projects, engage in transdisciplinary developments, and frankly, imagine, design, and create a better world for us all.

The conference features several highlights, such as In-Conversation and a Leaders Summit, which are exclusive, high-level plenary sessions that gather the world’s top leaders from public and private sectors, international organizations, and think-tanks to discuss global issues and develop impactful solutions that are sustainable socially, environmentally and economically.

We hope that you will accept our invitation to be part of the WEEF-GEDC 2018 event this coming November 2018. We are providing you the opportunity to submit an abstract for consideration in one of the thematic focus areas listed below. We strongly encourage case studies with practical applications and demonstrable results.

Please submit your proposal via the online portal at weef-gedc2018.org. Specify the Peace Engineering theme to be addressed, along with a 200-word abstract and a 50 word statement describing how this work addresses societal or community wellbeing, sustainability, social equity, entrepreneurship, transparency, community engagement, and/or the culture of quality. These statements will be used to attract additional participants and will be published on the website. Authors should indicate whether the paper is submitted for a poster session or an oral presentation. Reviewers may move submissions to the appropriate presentation format (poster or oral). The recommended outline for the paper and presentation will be provided upon acceptance. All titles, abstracts and presentations must be in English. Papers may be submitted in English or Spanish.

All accepted papers that are presented during WEEF-GEDC 2018 will be published in the WEEF-GEDC 2018 Proceedings and submitted for indexing in SCOPUS*. Best papers may also be selected for inclusion in a special publication.

*Note: To be considered for publication, at least one author must register and pay for the full conference by August 30, 2018.
