Dear Parents & Geckos,

Greetings from TGS!

In a first of its kind, the corona virus has brought theworld to a screeching halt; Covid-19 has throwneducation in a loop as its widespread has restrained usto our homes. All the educators and learners grapplewith the sudden new norm of complete tech-mediated teaching and learning.

As we limp back to semi-normalcy, we now findourselves in a new eco-system of blended learning andvirtual teaching. Coping with emerging technologies, understanding student engagement, devisingactivities and participation, assigning homework andassignments, all require learning in this new paradigm.Teachers are being the beacon of hope as they riseabove their personal debacle and become a pillar ofstrength for the students. We at Gaudium, academicteam, IT team, administrative team, are putting all ourefforts together to reinvent and upgrade ourselves. It isindeed a stimulating, incredible opportunity to changethe education system in one clean sweep.

The COVID-19 shutdown is an opportunity for parentsto rebuild their partnership role in educating theirchildren to make them good human beings byinstilling in them family values and life skills andhelping them become good family persons. As weknow, the family is the basic unit of our society, nationand the globalised community. Once we succeed inestablishing good families and family bonds; thefoundation of a better society, nation and a globalisedcommunity are done. This naturally helps us end manyconflicts that trouble us and put us in great strife andstress daily.

Geckos, be kind to your family and spend quality timetogether, investigate your own interests, exercise andmeditate to keep yourself fit and happy, get creative, findways to make a difference. Here are some tips for you toremain positive, strong and upbeat during this challengingtime:

• Nothing lasts forever. Not even the coronavirus. So, staystrong and fight hard.

• Stay home and stay safe – the only medicine found till nowfor coronavirus. Keep calm and help flatten the curve.

• You’re braver than you believe and stronger than youseem, and smarter than you think - so follow the safetyguidelines and sanitisation protocols to defeatCoronavirus.

• Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see ashadow. Stay positive, stay home, stay safe and save lives.

On a positive note, the academic year 2020-21 is very specialyear for all of us as we put into practice the Happy MindModel, beautifully conceived by our Director, Ms. KirthiReddy. We are working relentlessly to ensure that the FivePillars are being incorporated and implemented into thescholastic as well as all the events of the school therebyleading all the stakeholders to achieve excellence in theirrespective domain.

All the best! This too shall pass. And we’ll be here when youget back!

The Coordinator’s Message

It was so rightly said by Alan Cohen, a renowned inspirational author that “Do notwait until the conditions are perfect to begin; Beginning makes the conditionsperfect”. We have started our academic year 2020-21 with the firm belief that if thebeginning is good, the ending will be awesome. Despite all odds, our goal and spiritto provide support and encouragement for each of you in your journey to make apositive difference remains unchanged.

The school re-opened for the facilitators on June 1, 2020. The CBSE segment with itsteam of highly trained and experienced teachers started its rigorous training sessionsto understand the philosophy of the Gaudium school, its parents and students’community. We had wonderful sessions to enhance the teaching skills and equipourselves for the ever-changing needs of modern-day education. This academic yearis indeed a challenge due to the pandemic situation, schools are operating not fromthe school buildings but from the teachers’ homes, while the most coveted factor, theschool environment, remains wholly absent. To bridge that gap, teachers haveundergone training sessions to facilitate smooth functioning by simulating theteaching and learning environment at the Gaudium.

I am truly in awe of the people who are responding heroically. Some parents areworking from home, managing their kids, ensuring they are attending the classes, literally feeding them — not to mention the kids themselves, stuck inside withouttheir friends. I do understand that students have lost their teachers’ face-to-facesupport after weeks, rather months at home. They are missing our playgrounds, lavishclassrooms, their favourite dining hall where they used to sit and enjoy their informalchats. Kids need room to experiment with different classes and differentextracurricular activities which they are obviously missing so much. However, I stillbelieve that our dedication towards our duty and our undeterred optimism will soonlead us to safer shores.

My teachers are among the unsung heroes of COVID-19: preparing resources andguidance for remote learning, connecting with kids and their parents to make surethey are comfortable — they are probably nurturing lives simultaneously at twofronts, the work-front and of course the home-front. The teachers are creating anentirely new array of possibilities of doing their jobs, to cater to every child’s need sothat no one is left behind. Added to it are new challenges thrown at us by the virtualclass platform, like non-compliance to norms, technical glitches, lack of motivationamongst students, online bullying, time management etc. To tackle this your timelyfeedback the most essential tool. As always, we look forward to your support inmaking the learning journey a joyous experience for our Geckos and prepare them forany kind of exigency. Afterall they are the flagbearers of this new era of changingrealities!

Walking without fear

To begin with let’s talk about what it means to walk without fear.

Once upon a time, there was a tortoise that lived on a ship. One daythe ship sank. After swimming for long hours, the tired tortoisereached a deserted land. It was a barren land overlooking anenormous, steep mountain in front. The tortoise decided to climb themountain in search of food. On the top of the mountain, it wasfreezing cold. He struggled to breathe and somehow managed tofind a path downwards. The path looked scary and filled withdangers. The pertinent question here is, should he give up or walkdown the path without fear? I am sure everyone will unquestionablyagree that for the entire school community living in the pandemic islike treading on that frightening path, the educators, the studentsand the parents, alike.

Life indeed threw a challenge at us that we accepted graciously. Thispandemic has revealed strengths that we didn’t know we had. Thevirtual platform has undeniably come to our rescue and we arecurrently experiencing the boons of technology like never before.

Since times immemorial classrooms have been an indispensablecomponent, probably as important as the people involved, if notmore, in the sphere of education. Who had ever thought thatteachers and students could teach and learn effectively on the virtualplatform, too? Who had thought that students who couldn’t sit ontheir seat without fidgeting could attend online classes attentively?

We learned, experimented and proved that we could. Yes, COVID-19couldn’t stop us. In spite of the numerous challenges faced, weemerged victorious. And we will continue to walk down the path, without fear.

A special kind of beauty exists in our love for languages;the language-rich environment of our classroomsfacilitates osmosis, that effortlessly and oftenunconsciously results in assimilation of knowledge. Itholds the promise of a heightened self-conscious,greater sensory awareness and an expansion of thecreative springs of the mind. To quote the NobelLaureate Rabindranath Tagore 'where words come outfrom the depth of truth..' the magic of life happens.
