This was created for an internal company introduction to using social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter. At the time, most of our employees were not using SM personally or professionally. It is a 101-type session on navigating and understanding basic SM environments.TRANSCRIPT

Posting—The whole idea behind social media
• Social media would not exisit with out people “Sharing”
• You can share text, photos, links, video or other social media applications (i.e. Farmville, ESPN U, Mob Wars, etc.)
• By sharing items, you post them on your “Wall” as well as your friends “News Feed”

• Commenting on posts is part of the “Social” side of social media

• “Liking” is a way to comment without actually writing anything.

• This will determine what groups can and cannot see your posts

• Allows you to identify people in the photo.
• Person has to be one of your “Friends”
• You can comment on photos the same way as your wall
• You can “Un-Tag” yourself if you want

• Usually more frequent posting—you can get overwhelmed by an active poster

Finding people to follow
• Twitter will give you suggestions based on:
• Your interests
• Popular members
• People you already follow
• You can search for accounts you may know
• You can easily follow and un-follow people until you find your right mix.
• Following too many people can cause too much noise and make you feel overwhelmed
Twitter is basically a 2-lane highway
Neither way of using is wrong.
• Don’t post often or at all
• Be a “Consumer”—a Listener
• Get information from those you follow
• Post quality content regularly
• Be a “Contributor”
• Have your tweets re-tweeted by your followers
• RT posts of those you follow
• Grow your network

RT Re-Tweet• CGraves is not in my network, but OgilvyWW is.
• They felt this tweet was important enough to share with their network
• CGraves will get a notification his Tweet was RT’ed by Ogilvy.

• Tabs allow me to see where my tweets and mentions are happening.
• It is good Twitter etiquette to thank those for their mentions and RTs
