What does it mean to let “Gospel change our lives”?

• We sincerely accept all truths about the Gospel => rebirth/repentance, trust in Jesus

• Experience death and resurrection with Christ => put to death our sin and let Christ reign

• Worship and obey in Christ => live a new life

• Serve your family, church, and the world by grace => to become His disciple

Gospel can change lives• Ro 1:16-17 says we believe Gospel is “the power of

God for salvation of everyone who believes” so Gospel is God’s power and can be used to plant new church. Any ministry, if we want it to be an “effective” ministry, must hang on the power of Gospel so that the ministry can be renewed and change individual’s lives, change people’s lives, and change our community and eventually the world.

• Gospel is the power of God: Gospel of justification by faith => the unrighteous are made righteous

• God’s plan of salvation: “history of redemption” (Creation-Fall-Redemption-Consummation)

Page 5: CCCVA 2009-2010 Ministry report and future plans

The essence of Gospel• Gospel is Good News• Gospel is (2 Cor 5:21) “God made him who

had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

• Gospel tells us that we are sinful, lost, helpless, and only Jesus’s death and resurrection can save us

• Gospel also tells us that all who believe in the redemptive work of Jesus and do not rely on his own efforts have been accepted by God. (Col 1:22-23)

Page 6: CCCVA 2009-2010 Ministry report and future plans

The essence of Gospel (cont.)• The Gospel tells us our sinfulness not only exhibits

in our disobedience to God; it also exhibits in our attempt to save ourselves by trusting “our own obedience” (self-righteousness).

• The Gospel keeps us away from Legalism and Moralism (religion); it also keeps us from Hedonism (pleasure and happiness are the highest pursuits) and Relativism (non-religion)

• The Gospel affects all aspects of a Christian’s life, not just a few aspects of his life. Gospel is not only the path to God’s kingdom; it is also the solution to all of our problems, and the means of our growth and sanctification.

The essence of Gospel (cont.)

• The Gospel tells us we are much worse than we think we are; it also tells us we are loved and accepted by God in Christ more than we think we are.

• In fact, if Gospel is real, you will see more of your own sins and you will believe that your salvation is entirely by God’s grace.

• The more you cherish such grace the more you will be encouraged by such grace. The Gospel can empower us and give us the ability to love and obey God so that living in God’s will is joyful and no longer a burden to us.

Our beliefs about Missional church

* Missional church must have the following goals:– Lead people to Christ – this goal should never be

our ultimate goal. Even when we do lead people to Christ, we have merely completed the first step.

– To help church to mature and reach “churchhood” – this means the church will become “what a church should look like”, the church will be “presentable”, and the church will be “mature”.

– In a real church should have these 3 types of people: people who can teach, people who can govern, and people who can care for others.

Page 9: CCCVA 2009-2010 Ministry report and future plans

Our beliefs about Missional church (cont.)

• The goals for establishing church :– There is always a goal for church ministries just as there’s

always a goal for God’s work on earth. The work involved to reach such goal is not vague or disappointing, instead it has clear goal to achieve. The ultimate goal for all the ministries can be found in the Bible.

– Detailed writing about the work of the church can be found in the book Church Policies.

• Basically, there are three goals for missional work: 1) to bring non-believers to repentance; 2) to establish

church; 3) to glorify God’s name and to help people know God’s grace.

Page 10: CCCVA 2009-2010 Ministry report and future plans

The Goals for establishing church:

The Bible says God’s glory is the ultimate goal. In the OT, it emphasizes on the glory of the God of Israel. Numbers Ch 14:16 mentioned that Moses worried the Egyptians would say the God of Israel had no power to save His own people. Ps. 83:18 also says, “Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD, that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”

Page 11: CCCVA 2009-2010 Ministry report and future plans

Biblical foundations for establishing church:

We find similar description in NT. Missionary work is holy work which concerns “the Good News of God’s Kingdom”; it includes the meaning of “all people who are part of the Kingdom and who now have salvation and peace from God.” But more importantly, “Kingdom of God” simply means it’s God’s kingdom. The one who endured betrayal, blasphemy, opposition, hostility, and humiliation will become the only shelter and resting place for men. Because “For Thy is the kingdom, and power, and glory forever”.

Page 12: CCCVA 2009-2010 Ministry report and future plans

A healthy church is a “missional church” that will win the world for God in all its ministries setup

• Worship true God– experience the presence of God and– Praising Him

• Conduct discipleship training– to learn and grow in a group– spiritual training

• Have fellowship in the Lord– relationship is based on God’s love – connected to other parts of the body

• Preach the Gospel– A vision to reach out to non-believers– Train leaders and workers

• Serve the world– A Church government that is wise and responsible– Manage resources wisely, give generously, and renew our culture

The three characteristics of a healthy church:• Worship and prayer• Sacraments • Church Discipline
