Fall into a new season of Faith Formation at Christ Church!

TRANSCRIPT

Christ Church Episcopal

FAITH FORMATION

is the lifelong process of growing in relationship

with God, self, and others. At Christ Church,

we believe in providing many different opportunities

for fellowship, education and spiritual formation

for children, youth and adults.

We invite you to participate in and connect with

these offerings; to discover your gifts, grow

in your relationships, and practice

Christian service with one another.

FOR ADULTS—ONGOING SMALL GROUPS

THURSDAY DAYTIME

WOMEN’S GROUP

Join a lively group of women

for a potluck lunch,

fellowship and discussion.

Our topics have included

Bible study, missions, and

the purpose of prayer in our

lives. The group discusses

and chooses topics of

interest for the meetings.

There has also been some

interest in organizing short

trips to places of interest

around Richmond. While this

group was originally begun

for those who prefer to drive

in the daytime, all women

are welcome!

WOMEN’S GATHERING

This group for women meets at a

member’s home each month for

refreshments and fellowship. A

very casual gathering, the group

is focused on how to serve the

community, supporting programs

that focus on women and

children, such as the George

Mason Elementary reading

program, The Sophie House and

Anna Julia Cooper School. We

hope to expand our meetings to

include some teaching from time

EPIC MOMS (Episcopal Parishes in Community)

This new gathering for moms of children infancy to elementary

school is sponsored by a number of Episcopal churches in

Richmond and open to all. Get to know other women as we share

the joys and challenges of parenting. There will be great speakers

and topics for discussion; opportunities to learn crafts and

activities to share with our children; and the gift of friendship

with other moms who desire to raise their children with the love

of Christ. There are two regular monthly meetings that include

breakfast, fellowship, and speakers. On-site childcare will always

be provided. Come nurture your life as a mother. Come nurture

your soul.

WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY

This group will be reading and discussing What Love Is: The letters

of 1, 2, 3 John by Kelly Minter, a study that encourages us to

remain faithful to the truth. We will be challenged to look at

contrasting themes such as walking in the light instead of

darkness, truth versus lies and deception, loving God more than

loving the world, and the meaning of true fellowship and

community rather than shallowness. Participants are welcome to

join at any time and the workload is as much or as little as you

want it to be. Childcare can be provided with enough interest.

MEN’S THURSDAY SMALL GROUP

This gathering is relatively informal and typically involves 3 components:

to learn a little more about each other; to present a topic of interest; and

to have an open discussion. The topic will have some connection

to developing our Christian lives, but can range from a Bible

passage to a meaningful movie clip. We look for input from the

group for topics and are happy for you to lead the discussion on a

particular topic. The primary rule we have is that we respect

confidentiality.

2nd & 4th Thursdays

MEN’S MONDAY BIBLE STUDY

Using the Discovery Bible Study method, we read two chapters of

Scripture each week and gather to discuss and ask simple questions such

as How can we apply these truths to our lives? This group is a great source

of fellowship & conversation, and it helps to reinforce daily reading of

Scripture. There are no theologians or Bible scholars in the group – we

are all humbly walking this journey together trying to draw closer to God

through His Word.

WOMEN’S THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY

All women are invited to join us on Thursday mornings as we journey

through the book of Acts using New Testament scholar N.T. Wright's

study guide. In this commentary, Wright approaches the first half of the

multi-faceted book of Acts, showing how the book builds on Luke's

Gospel, laying out the continuing work and teaching of the risen and

ascended Christ. His writing captures the vivid way in which Luke's work

draws the reader into the story, while leaving the open-ended challenge

of continuing the story of service to all Christians today.

ways we fulfill this function in God’s

kingdom.” This passage from the book

Discover your Gifts is one of many that

gifts and how best they can be used.

During this workshop participants will

explore spiritual gifts from a Biblical

THE DIVINE

CONSPIRACY

This 6-week study offers a

timely and challenging call

back to the true meaning

of Christian discipleship.

Gracefully weaving biblical

teaching, popular culture,

science, scholarship, and

spiritual practice, Dallas

Willard shows the

necessity of making

profound changes in how

we view our lives and live

out our faith. Come hear

Christ's teachings in a

fresh, relevant light,

revealing a revolutionary

way to experience God —

by knowing Him as an

essential part of the here

and now, rather than only

as a part of the hereafter.

SEASONAL SUPPORT GROUPS LED BY TERRY BECKER FRITZ, MS, RN, CS.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

The loss of a loved one is a difficult time,

especially during the holiday season because

normal traditions don’t feel right when

someone is missing. This support group will be

focused on learning more about the grieving

process and talking about our feelings. Some

helpful strategies will be shared on how to

manage the overwhelming feelings as they

occur. And we will be discussing what will be

the most helpful for you to deal with the

holidays and lost traditions. Sundays, Dates TBD

LAUNCH-IN-PROGRESS

Meet and fellowship with other parents who

have “launched” a child into a new

environment. Many feelings occur in parents

that are hard to talk about -- sadness, loss,

fear, and the proverbial “where did all the

years go”. It helps to talk with others who are

experiencing some of the same things you are.

FOR ADULTS—10:25 SMALL GROUPS

Inspired by the Hebrew’s 10:25 commandment to “encourage one another,” 10:25 Small Groups meet

monthly to transform relationships with God and one another through discussion, prayer, and the

sharing of life experiences.

These small groups have about 6—12 members and provide adults an opportunity to connect and

grow in a simple, relaxed way. Some meet at night, some during the day; some meet at member’s

homes, some at church; some invite children to tag-along, others are meant for grown-ups only. These

groups are for all adults in all stages of life — individuals, couples, parents, empty-nesters — and of all

ages. We are sure there is a 10:25 group that can encourage you!

*NEW!* FAITH FORMATION RESOURCES WEBSITE

We've launched a brand new Faith Formation website and it's chock-full of

resources for individuals, families, and group leaders. Take a tour and

deepen your faith!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Children’s Ministry Team is very excited

about our new Sunday School curriculums

this year from Sparkhouse publishing.

Highlights include fun videos, activity pages

to bring home, and less prep for volunteers.

It all begins September 13!

This year, we are changing things up a bit.

Sunday School offerings will differ at each

of the two worship services. At the 9:00 AM

service we will use three different

curriculums so we can customize for the

specific age groups and needs of these

groups. There will be a curriculum just for

preschoolers, an exciting new plan for K-3,

and even one just for the tweens in our

Club45! During the 10:45 AM worship

service, the kids will all gather in one large

room to experience the Bible story and then

divide into groups for age-appropriate

discussion and activities.

We’re heading to the

PUMPKIN

PATCH for hayrides, treats,

pumpkin-picking, and

more!
