YET ANOTHER YEAR
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! I Corinthians: 9:15
A year gone by means we have crossed 12 months, 365 days and 4 seasons, which is how we can look back. While some of us have had great experiences and blessing, others have had experiences of pain, sorrow and loss. But most of us have gone through both times of joy and sadness. In spite of all these situations and circumstances that we have experienced, Annual Thanksgiving is a time of coming together as One Family of St. Andrew's, to thank God for all the experiences, positively and happily.
As St. Paul says, 'no matter what ever I have or I do not have, I am content in the Lord.' Our intimate relationship with God has always helped us to grow into deeper and proper relationship with Him, which makes us be content in all the blessing we receive. St. Paul also points out what the attitude of every believer should be - that we should be able to live with plenty, and equally be content, happy, and thankful even in adversity and loss.
A peep into the world through the last year would help us understand that God has a purpose for us in this world, as He has granted us, yet another year. There has been loss of life in accidents, wars, hatred in the name of religion, land or ethnicity; loss of life due to lack of health facilities, food and water, and lack of even the basic necessities of life. Amidst all these situations, we live, and our lives are precious. God has granted us yet another year, let us be thankful.
The Word of the Lord reminds us to be thankful, and also challenges us to share our talents, blessings, possessions, and all that we have, for all that we receive is to be shared. Harvest is a time of thanksgiving and sharing, so let us bring our offerings in utmost humility to the Altar in response to the grace and mercy of God, rather than in expectation of a better blessing for the future. Our offering and thanks is our expression to God's grace and mercy we have received and experienced.
May God bless you all abundantly

CHRISTIAN GIVING
Christian giving is not materialistic alone. It must be more than that. Our giving must be giving of ourselves to the service of God. The poor woman who put in two coins was recognized and praised by our Lord. Why? Because, with that giving, she gave herself too; she did not keep back anything for herself. Similarly, Christian giving is giving of oneself, one's entire life to Jesus, ever ready for any type of service or sacrifice when time demands; giving willingly and with overflowing love expressed in action. The Cross teaches us what should be our true motive behind our giving – our giving to this world, to our church, and to the society around us, in addition to our routine and traditional practice of material giving.
Unfailing, unhesitant, and willing sacrifice - what more does our church need these days? We need to give what our Lord gave us on the Cross – of himself and his sacrificial love. The motive behind our giving must be based on our Lord's example, apart from which, it cannot be Christian Giving. So, let us learn to give with overflowing love, the love which we have received from the Cross of Salvation. 'Freely have we received, freely let us give'.
Let us recall the life and work of Graham Staines, the missionary, and his two young children, who were burnt to death. Graham devoted his life in caring for patients with leprosy. He showed 'love in action', and was prepared to sacrifice his life for the glory of God - the greatest gift one could offer - his life and that of his children. God must have accepted his life and that of his children as 'burnt offerings.'
So, our giving should be a sacrificial giving, just as our Lord has taught us by his example. What else could be considered as Christian giving? 'When I survey the wondrous Cross… my richest gain I count but loss … love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life and my all.'

The Requiem Mass in D Minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The Majolly Music Trust Choir, as part of their Festival of Music, presented The Requiem Mass in D Minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, on Sunday, September 21, 2014 during our Evening Worship Service.
This piece of music is one of the most widely performed and studied. It is the last piece Mozart composed before his death following a prolonged illness, and the work was left unfinished - only the opening movement and the vocal and orchestral parts were completed by him; the rest, later in various stages, by other composers.
The text comes from the Mass for the Dead in the Catholic Liturgy. The Catholic Church created the Requiem Mass from a need to honour the departed in a separate ceremony.
This beautiful and solemn piece of music was directed by Neecia Majolly, and was performed by her excellent Choir, with the Soloists, Tanisha Herbert (Soprano), Usha Aron (Alto), J W Johnson (Tenor) and Subin Thomas (Bass).
The concert was very well attended, and much appreciated by the audience. It was a beautiful and an uplifting evening, spiritually as well.
We place on record our heartfelt thanks to Ögmundur Thór Jóhannesson, The Majolly Music Trust Choir, and their Director, Neecia Majolly, for being part of our Sesquicentennial Celebrations, making it very meaningful for us.
