PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
25th Annual Eastern Market TrekSaturday, May 18th • 8:30am
Come out and join the GM Ski Club for the morning at Detroit’s Eastern Market!
We will be meeting at Vivio’s Restaurant at 8:30am, 2460 Market St, Detroit (313-393-1711). This is a popular outing and well attended. We will again be upstairs so we can accommodate everyone. To start the morning right we will begin with double Bloody Marys and beer chasers or Mimosa’s, or a really good coffee drink.
Breakfast will start at 9am-ish. Afterwards we’ll slowly walk through the open air Farmers Market. After a few hours, we’ll consider going somewhere else: perhaps a BBQ, out for a sail, or just relax at the dock with some of that chilled wine we bought. It’s all up to you! Let’s start our summer time fun.
Eastern Market is a six-block public market that has been feeding Detroit since 1891. Every Saturday it is transformed into a vibrant market-place with hundreds of open-air stalls where everyone from toddlers to tycoons enjoy the strong conviviality served up along with great selections of fruits, veggies, fresh-cut flowers, homemade jams, maple syrups, locally produced specialty food products, pasture and/or grass-fed meat and even an occasional goose or rabbit.
Come on down and join the fiesta. Devour the great bounty of Michigan, Ohio, and Ontario harvests, find paradise in the dazzling array of plants and flowers, and relish the rich history and colorful stories of the market and its characters. www.detroiteasternmarket.com

For all bike rides contact: Stan Sawicki, 586-808-3406,
On April 14th we had our first Sunday afternoon bike ride. We #&!*#$@ froze – well, not really but it was cold. We had one hardy group of cyclists who came prepared for Michigan Spring. Perhaps you can see in the picture above that we do look more like we are dressed for skiing then biking.
But, being prepared, the biking was good. We pedaled out from the Rochester library on the dry, wind-sheltered and picturesque Paint Creek Trail for one hour of travel, with a stop at the Paint Creek Cider Mill for coffee, etc. and then adjourned to the Limelight Bar & Grille for some food to restore our energy. It was a good group with several non-member participants whom we hope to see again and perhaps see become new members.
Our next outing is May 5th. I am hoping it will be bikini weather. Past experience has shown that the more people there are, the more fun it is, so I am inviting all of you who have a bike to consider joining us. We will start from the Rochester library again. Let Stan know you are coming (see info at left) and we won’t leave without you. Hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE PLAY: “Waiting for Godot” is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait
endlessly and in vain for the arrival of someone named Godot. Godot’s absence, as well as
numerous other aspects of the play, have led to many different interpretations since the play’s
premiere, 1940ish. It was voted “the most signif-icant English language play of the 20th century.”
