(NAPSA)—Consumers can nowchoose from scores of environmen-tally responsible products—hybridcars, energy-efficient light bulbs, termite control…termite control? That’s right, even termite controlcan leave a smaller footprint onthe environment.

To treat subterranean termiteinfestations, homeowners canhave liquid chemicals injected intothe soil around and beneath theirhomes. While treated soil providestermite protection for a finiteamount of time, research showsthat when homeowners considertermite treatment options, theyindicate a high level of concernabout the use of chemicals in andaround their homes and the envi-ronmental implications.1

Termite Control Goes ‘Green’Homeowners are “go ing

green” by selecting an alterna-tive to liquid chemical soil treat-ments—the Sentricon® TermiteColony Elimination System, thefirst termite baiting technology. The premier bait in the SentriconSystem was the first termitetreatment active ingredient to beaccepted for registration underthe EPA’s Reduced Risk PesticideInitiative. The Sentricon Systemis also the only termite controlproduct ever to receive the Presi-dential Green Chemistry Chal-lenge Award, one of the U.S. gov-ernment’s top environmentalhonors.

“The Sentricon System is envi-ronmentally responsible because ituses just grams of termite bait,

when and where needed, to elimi-nate termite colonies,” says DaveMaurer, marketing manager forthe Sentricon® System. “Everyhome treated with the SentriconSystem instead of a liquid chemicaltreatment helps reduce the impactof pesticides on the environment. The Sentricon System also pro-vides better control than liquidchemical treatments because it ismonitored on an ongoing basis byan Authorized Operator and iteliminates termite colonies, notjust individual termites.”

Many homeowners agree.Research conducted by DowAgroSciences in 11 high-termite-pressure markets across the coun-try shows that 55 percent ofhomeowners feel that the “green”attributes of the Sentricon Systemmake it preferable to the leadingliquid termiticide.2

(NAPSA)—Whichever seasonyou choose to replace your home’sheating system in, the decidingfactor on which system to use maybe the weather.

If you live in an area where thetemperature rarely dips below 40degrees, you can probably heatyour home more affordably with aheat pump than a furnace. That’sbecause furnaces tend to be moreexpensive to operate, dependingon the cost of the electricity inyour area or the natural gas andoil that are used to operate them.

However, if the temperatureoutside your home is typicallycolder than 40 degrees, considerhaving a furnace installed. Fur-naces can more easily maintainwarm temperatures, when the dif-ference between the temperatureoutside and inside increases.

Another important factor toconsider is efficiency. The effi-ciency of a gas furnace is indi-cated by the unit’s Annual FuelUtilization Efficiency (AFUE) rat-ing, while the Heating SeasonPerformance Factor (HSPF) mea-sures a heat pump’s efficiency.

The higher the AFUE or HSPF,the more efficient the unit and theless fuel it requires to heat yourhome. Although electric furnacesare often considered 100 percentefficient, remember that the sys-tem’s initial cost should beweighed against the annual oper-ating expense.

A third factor to consider whenselecting a heat pump or furnaceis the manufacturer. Select a

brand of equipment that has areputation for quality, energy effi-ciency and reliability. For exam-ple, the York brand of heating andcooling equipment from JohnsonControls has been around formore than 130 years.

The new Affinity series of fur-naces and heat pumps offers thelatest features in heating technol-ogy and control systems. The Affin-ity furnaces feature variablespeeds to improve efficiency, main-tain constant temperatures andreduce sound levels.

The electronic controls on theAffinity furnaces and heat pumpsmay offer tighter temperaturecontrol and the ability to programperiods of temperature setback, improving both system efficiencyand occupant comfort.

Heat Pump Or Furnace: How To Choose

When replacing your home’sheating system, be sure tochoose a unit with proven fuelefficiency.
