Photocopying ServiceThe library provides freephotocopying service to thefaculty of the Institute. Anexternal outfit operating withinthe premises of the libraryoffers the service on paymentto students, staff and otherwalk-in users. The library alsosupplies photocopies ofarticles to individuals andorganizations on payment.A number of organizationsmaintain a deposit accountwith the library for availing theservice quickly.

Book Bank Special Collection forScheduled Caste and ScheduledTribe StudentsText books from this collectionare issued for a period of onesemester to the studentsbelonging to SC/ST. Eligiblestudents may apply as perthe schedule announced bythe library.

Technology Lending Library(TLL)The textbooks from the TLLsection are loaned out for onesemester to the students whoseparents’ income falls below thetaxable limit. Eligible studentsmay apply as per the scheduleannounced by the library.

Study Room BooksTextbooks recommended by thefaculty for different courses arekept in the study room at thecirculation counter for aspecified period. These bookscan be used in thelibraryagainst Identity Card.A student can also borrow onebook for a night, returnable

by 1400 hrs the next day. A latefee of Rs. 25.00 per day ischarged for overdue books (Rs.50/-during examination period).

programme organized by theinstitute for the benefit of newstudents in the beginning ofacademic year. They are takenaround the library to familiarizethem with various resourcesand services available for them.Training sessions are alsoorganized whenever a newproduct or service is introduced.Users can contact In charge,Reference Service for anyhelp.

Central Library is a part of the institute-wide networkbuilt around a fiber optic Giga-bit ethernet backbonecomprising of five routing switches. The library isconnected to the backbone through one of the routingswitches. Institutes’ backbone in turn is connected to32 mbps of Internet band width on leased links fromVSNL and Reliance. The library has 12 servers, 70 PCsand other accessories adequate to cater to the needsof users. 25 PC are meant for users to access OPAC,databases, e-books, e-journals and other e-resources.The library has been Wi-Fi enabled to provide wirelessaccess to the Internet. Users are welcome to use theirlaptops in the library.

Theses submitted since 1999 and 1965respectively. This database containing over 2000records is accessible through the library homepage.

Institutional Archive(http://dspace.library.iitb.ac.in/dspace/)Central Library has recently set up an archive ofpublications brought out by the faculty and the institute.The archive, accessible initially on the Intranetfacilitates on line submission of the publications by theirauthors which are permissible within the copyrightregulations. The archive, it is hoped will evolve in to amajor database of all publications produced by the IITBombay community and will be available on the Internetthrough the library homepage.

Visitor’s Pass at the security check point.

· Visitors with valid passes are allowed only onweekdays from 0930 – 1730 hrs. Faculty, studentsand researchers from Government organizationsare allowed to refer the library againstintroduction letters from their employers.

· Only books from general collection are issued tothe library members.

· The documents like reference books, boundvolumes of journals, loose issue of currentjournals, reports and standards are issued onlyto the Faculty, Scientists and PG / ResearchStudents for different loan periods. Interestedusers can obtain details from the CirculationCounter.

· Theses, dissertations, CDs, video cassettes arenot lent out of the library.

· The books which are already issued, can beclaimed / reserved at the issue counter. One usercan put upto 3 claims that will remain valid for 7days from the date of return.

· The users are not allowed to bring the booksissued to them inside the library unless theyintend to return them.

· The borrowing facility can be withdrawn orrestricted in case of misconduct by any user.

· The readers should check the book thoroughlyfor missing pages, chapters, pictures etc., whileborrowing the book.

· No book in damaged condition will be acceptedfrom the reader.

· Loss of book must be reported immediately.

· The rules for replacement & fine calculation oflost book are available at the Circulation Counter.

· Smoking as well as sleeping is strictly prohibitedin the library premises.

· Please maintain silence in the Library.
