City to take on planners over lack of parking and design of new buildings after Bristol-based bureaucrats give go ahead PLANS for 54 study/bedroom flats in a 4-storey building at junction of Heyward and Fawcett Roads have been refused by City Councillors thanks to your local Lib Dem team (above). The trouble is Bristol-based government officials reversed a previous Council decision to refuse the idea of a 4-storey building on the site last year, so something of this height will go up, but our team persuaded the
committee that the design and lack of parking was wrong. Almost everyone agreed that safe and managed halls of residence for students are helpful in freeing up local houses, but need to be closer to the University. Just like others students have cars, but there was no parking provision in this plan and it was rejected on those grounds too.
Helping hand for local resident on a garden action day! YOUR local team swung into action after a local resident asked for help with her over-grown back garden.
“The council couldn’t do it - so Lee, me and Margaret went along to help” says Cllr John Ireland (pictured centre). He added, “We got the council in to take the green waste away for recycling”. The lady house-holder was very pleased with the help.

Popular ward councillor Margaret Adair explains why she switched to join Lee Hunt & John Ireland as a local Liberal Democrat...
“I have decided to join Cllrs Lee Hunt and John Ireland as a local Liberal Democrat Councillor as I believe they are putting local people first, rather than petty politics. I want to support them as they are both good hard-working representatives for this area. As a team we get on very well and the most important part of what we do is you.For a long time now I have seen the way that Southsea Conservatives have descended into a farce over a single issue, the Southsea Town Council. Nothing seems to matter apart from that. They are not listening to local people. I am continuing my work with Age Concern and regularly walk the ward to get rid of dumped rubbish and get it cleared away. I attend police and community meetings, so nothing has changed.
Yours as ever,
Margaret

Do the street build-outs work to slow traffic down or are they used just to dump rubbish on?
Do you wish to see redundant build-outs make way for additional car-parking or keep them?
Are there any unused 'keep clear' signs or other bays unused near you?
Also is there any dumped rubbish near your home we can get cleared away?

Councillor John Ireland has recently been appointed as the Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Youth Services in Portsmouth. This is a highly challenging but rewarding role overseeing improvements to schools, promoting out of school facilities and ensuring that vulnerable children are protected, promoted and cared for.
Says John "There is so much, both nationally and locally effecting our children's well being at the moment. Whether it be the Lord Laming report with its emphasis on safeguarding, following the Baby P case, Building Schools for the Future (Every Secondary School in Portsmouth is either going to be rebuilt or improved), attainment and attendance/exclusion levels".
The Liberal Democrats believe in placing children at the heart of all their policies. Says fellow Lib Dem Councillor Lee Hunt
"Children are our future and the City's future. Providing well for them now means Portsmouth will prosper in the future". Lee is a Governor of Fernhurst Junior School and was recently given a long service award for ten year's commitment to that school.
