Ch 5- Changing the Crust
The rising and falling of the lithosphere into the asthenosphere due to changes in weight are called isostatic adjustments.
These movements cause stress on the crustal rocks
Many times the rocks will fold without breaking; 3 ways
1. Anticline
2. Syncline
3. Monocline
Other times the rock will break; if the rocks do not move it is called a fracture
If the rocks move, it is called faulting
Normal fault
Reverse fault
Thrust fault
Strike-slip fault
Constant changing of the crust forms mountains and valleys
Types of mountains
1. Folded mountains
2. Plateaus
3. Fault-block mountains
4. Volcanic mountains
5. Dome mountains
