About Manchester Pride

Manchester Pride is a registered charity that campaigns for equality and challenges discrimination;

creates opportunity for engagement and participation and celebrates LGBT life. It fundraises to

empower and enrich LGBT organisations, charities and communities in Greater Manchester.

Formed in 2004, it achieved a charitable status in 2006. It is represented by a number of patrons

from the world of politics, film, television, music and literature who carry messages for LGBT equality

around the globe, championing Manchester Pride and the work they do, celebrating achievements

and campaigns within Greater Manchester and around the world.

Aims and Objectives

“Promote equality and diversity for the public benefit and in particular the elimination of

discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, including in particular but not exclusively by

raising the awareness of the public with regard to all aspects of discrimination in society and issues

and difficulties affecting the lives of lesbian, gay and bisexual and transgender people.”

Community Engagement - Achievements 2016

Listening Groups –Voices from our

LGBT communities shared ideas that

helped shape the future for Manchester

Pride. There were events for families,

free to attend events, improved

experiences for disable visitors. They

helped us simultaneously run Cultural

programmes with The Superbia

Weekend, increasing enjoyment and

comfort for our visitors.

The Manchester Pride

Community Parade – We

created our very own entry to

lead the Parade with the help of

Arts Council England. Over 100+

people got involved and proudly

took to the streets for a

spectacular display to tens of

thousands of spectators. People

learnt new skills whilst working

alongside professional artists

Pride Stars – Volunteers at the very

heart of Manchester Pride helped us

in all aspects of delivery. They came

from diverse backgrounds, talent,

skills and knowledge and helped us in

fundraising at events, assisted

community and cultural events and

enhanced the work we do. They are

essential to everything we do!

Events and Initiatives 2016

The Manchester Pride Spring Benefit – A standout ‘must attend’ fundraising event brought together

business leaders, community champions and celebrities in support of LGBT causes. Around c.300

guests attended the event and helped us raise over £21,000.

IDAHOT – In May our supporters donned their running shoes to take part in the Great Manchester

Run for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia and helped us raise over

£2,000.

The Big Weekend – Our Flagship event which saw over 43,000 people come together to celebrate,

with pride, some of the biggest names in music. Thousands of revellers were entertained by the likes

of a whole host of world class performing artists and DJs from the world of dance music.

Superbia – Supported, curated, funded and celebrated LGBT related events across Greater

Manchester with debate, film, comedy, literature, music, sport, theatre, family and community led

projects. We had over 100+ events in 2016!

The Manchester Pride Parade – is a major highlight of the Manchester Pride Festival which had over

4000 people taking part. It has kaleidoscope of colour, floats and marchers showing their support to

the LGBT community and this year it was community inspired and brought together proud sponsors,

public sector, local businesses, community groups marching shoulder to shoulder.

The Candlelit Vigil – Our spiritual heart of the Big Weekend in collaboration with our charity partner

George House Trust had people gather to remember those we lost to HIV and joined hands to fight

the epidemic worldwide and the stigma associated with it.

OUT! – Our new project funded by Heritage Lottery Fund helped us uncover some of the rich

heritage and hidden histories of LGBT life in Manchester and led to a digital mapping of the heritage

trail

Financial Performance and Governance

2016 has been a formidable year for Manchester Pride. We have received a huge amount of support

from friends, allies and supporters of LGBT people which has enabled us to experience increased

levels of engagement with LGBT people who were not previously in touch with the activities of

Manchester Pride.

The figures below are based on unaudited accounts for the year ending 31st

December 2016. Our full audited

accounts will be made available in 2017

“We thank our Board of Trustees and the Operations team who gave their time freely throughout

the year, whether it was assisting in the office, welcoming visitors to our events or running about

over the Big Weekend helping out in a thousand different ways. We really couldn’t do it without

you!” – Vicken Couligian (Chair of Manchester Pride)
