What is Asset Development? The Search Institute has identified building blocks of
healthy development that help young people grow up to be healthy, caring and responsible citizens. Research shows that the more assets children have, the more
successful they will be.
In our efforts to support B.O.A.T., a community wide initiative, every month the Chamber asks that you to take a moment to understand a
DEVELOPMENTAL ASSET that can be instrumental toward the success of a child in our community.
Developmental Asset: EMPOWERING Our Youth
Engage youth as leaders and decision makers.
Include youth on management teams, on disciplinary teams and other working groups.
Have children learn the value of community service by including them in corporate community initiatives.
Recruit community groups and individuals to volunteer time to build assets in your organization.
Include youth on interview teams for personnel selection. They can provide tours to informally assess candidates and/or take part in interview.
If you or your company engage in any activity that fulfill the assets mentioned every month, we want to know. Send photos and a brief description to
For additional information regarding B.O.A.T. and the 40 Developmental Assets, please visit the website at http://www.westorangehigh.ocps.net/BOAT/index.htm

AINT NO CURE FOR THE OVERTIME BLUES
Featuring Peggy Isaacson of The Portable Personnel Office
Are you trying to make sense out of federal overtime regulations?
Is it making you crazier than the Mad Hatter? The Department of Labors new rules go into effect on August 23, 2004 and will probably change how and to whom you are paying overtime and how to
determine who doesnt get paid overtime. Not getting it right is no tea party mistakes can be costly.
