One of the main objective of the current G20 agenda is to ensure Growth through effective regulation (Strengthening Financial Regulation, Enhancing Multilateral Trade, Energy Sustainability). As is traditional for the G20 process, the Russian Presidency has introduced, in addition to the inherited agenda and logistics, new elements:•All energy issues are dealt with in a single Energy Sustainability Working Group (ESWG), chaired by the Russian Federation and co-chaired by the Great Britain; The four priorities of the ESWG are:•Making energy and commodity markets transparent and more predictable•Promoting energy efficiency and green growth•Sound regulation for energy infrastructure•Global marine environment protection

The Administration of the President of the Russian Federation and the Russian G20 Sherpa charged the FTS of Russia to perform substantive work for discussion of the regulatory issues in the frameworks of G20 activities.

The regulatory initiative to a large degree has been inspired by a successful G8+ Energy Regulators Roundtable, which took place in May 2009 in Rome. We consider the Rome Roundtable’s Statement as a very substantial impressive document for further discussion, development and implementation.Activities/deliverables highlights:•February 2013 (Moscow) - approval of “Sound regulation for energy infrastructure” work plan at the first “face to face” Energy Sustainability Working Group meeting.•Early April 2013 (Paris) - Workshop of G20+ Energy regulators representatives and experts with OECD support.•Early June 2013 (St. Petersburg) - The G20+ Energy Regulators Roundtable. G20+ Energy Regulators Statement establishment.•Presentation of “G20+ Energy Regulators Statement” to the G20 Sherpas.•September 2013 (St. Petersburg) – acknowledgement of G20+ Energy Regulators Statement in the G20 Leaders Communiqué.
