Sharing Joy and SorrowBy Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister
Vol. 3 No. 1 January 13, 2011
Today we
just found
out that
Debby
Greshs
niece,
thirty-years-
old, died
yesterday
while walking her dog. A tragic event. Our
thoughts and prayers are with the Gresh
family as they deal with what happens
next, probably a trip to the funeral in
Chicago. All of their church family lifts
them up and we can share their pain. It
is hard to know why this happened,
but it is easy to feel Gods presence in
a time like this. And as we reach out to
one another, we feel the arms of Christ
reaching out for us.
A little later I received a call from
John Werhun. John and his wife Joyce
are in Houston where John had tests to
see if the cancer he has been battling
is under control. The great newsthe
tumors have not grown at all. The
maintenance chemotherapy he is on is
working. What a blessing, a miracle
and a celebration, all in one. We rejoice
with the Werhuns and lift them up in
prayer as well.
Thats what a church family is all
about. We are there for one another
in times of pain and in times of joy.
We share one anothers pain and one
anothers joy. And as we experience the
highs and lows of our lives, we know that
we are not alone. God, who has given
us life from the beginning, walks with us.
God touches us through the hands of
those around usour church family.
Were focusing on welcoming in our
worship services lately. As we welcome
one another, we welcome their joys and
sorrow, knowing that in sharing both of
these things, we share the love of Christ.
