MagicQ PC Mini Wing

MagicQ Mini Wing

The MagicQ Mini Wing is an extremely powerful USB control wing for connecting to your PC or Mac to control lighting, video and LED with the MagicQ PC software. MagicQ PC software runs under Windows, Linux or OSX. MagicQ PC software is free and uniquely the outputs are fully enabled, allowing you to run shows of up to 18 Universes.

The MagicQ Mini Wing is the smallest wing in the MagicQ range, designed for playback of MagicQ shows. The MagicQ Mini Wing is targeted at installations, which are generally programmed only once and changed infrequently. It also provides a cost-effective solution for individuals with small budgets, and as a useful back-up for MagicQ consoles.

The Mini Wing has one fully patchable direct DMX output. Connection to the PC is via USB. Power is taken from the USB connection, so there is no need for an external power supply. The Mini Wing connects to any PC running the MagicQ PC Software. Additional DMX connections can be made via Ethernet.

The MagicQ PC software is the same software that MagicQ consoles run - enabling familiar and flexible GUI lighting control, media server connectivity options and in-built media server for LED grid arrays. And with the ability to transfer your show to other MagicQ consoles over the network or using standard USB memory sticks the MagicQ PC Wing can be used as a powerful off-line show editor or back-up system.

The MagicQ PC Mini Wing provides an immensely powerful PC based console ideal for installing into theatres, clubs, and venues for controlling lighting, video and LED. The Mini Wing is physically very small and light, making it a very attractive solution for Lighting Designers to take with them when they travel. There is no other product available that gives the power of the MagicQ software combined with real faders and buttons, and a DMX output.

Comes with plastic presentation case, USB cable, MagicQ Software CD and instructions.

The Extra Wing is designed to allow users of MagicQ to extend the number of physical playbacks available to them. The MagicQ Extra Wing is similar in size to the MagicQ PC Wing and fits inside the standard PC Wing bag. It has a total of 24 playbacks, split into 2 sections - one section with 12 faders and one section with 12 Execute buttons.

Each section has separate Next and Previous page buttons. The 12 playbacks with faders are very similar to the lower part of the original MagicQ Playback Wing, with Flash, Go andSelect buttons, together with an LCD display for legending. The 12 playbacks with Execute buttons consist of 12 Select and Execute buttons, and an LCD display for legending.

The Extra Wing can be used on its own or together with a MagicQ Mini, PC, or Maxi Wing. It has an internal USB hub so that when used with a PC Wing it only requires one USB socket on the PC. The MagicQ PC Extra Wing can also be used with MagicQ Consoles.

On the rear panel there is a power connector (same as MagicQ PC Maxi Wing), a USB socket for connection to the main MagicQ system, dual USB expansion sockets and a console lamp socket.

The MagicQ PC software is the same software that MagicQ consoles run - enabling familiar and flexible GUI lighting control, media server connectivity options and in-built media server for LED grid arrays.

MagicQ MQ200 pro 2010

•32 Universes•34 Full Playbacks•2 External High Resolution Monitor Outputs•In-built Ethernet Switch•In-built UPS•Solid State Drive•Complete Console SolutionThe MagicQ MQ200 Pro 2010 provides an immensely powerful control console in a compact size. Ideal for both pre-programmed and unstructured shows, the MQ200 Pro 2010 is the console of choice for controlling lighting, video and LED in a touring environment.

The 34 physical playback controls are split into three different sections. Each section has separate page controls, enabling selection of different pages for different fixture types, e.g. generics, moving heads, LED or media servers. Individual channel timing, fully configurable FX, and on screen cue editing enables total artistic freedom. The on screen windows enable instant access to palettes, range information and FX for those moments when busking is required.

The MagicQ Pro series is the second generation of MagicQ Consoles, featuring the familiar and flexible GUI lighting control, media server connectivity options and in-built media server for LED pixel arrays found in the original MagicQ consoles. MagicQ Pro utilises the same software and show formats as the original MagicQ consoles enabling compatibility between all products in the MagicQ range.

MagicQ Pro pushes the boundaries with a massive 32 universes all controlled and processed on-board without a need for external network processors. 16384 channels in a compact package, proven to run at full speed with all channels fully patched, there really is no similarly packaged console that can sustain this performance. MagicQ supports ArtNet and Pathport protocols and ACN Streaming DMX. In additional there are 4 fully patchable direct DMX outputs on the rear panel.

MagicQ Pro features an in-built high speed Ethernet Switch, with 4 separate high durability metal Neutrik Ethercon locking connectors on the rear panel enabling easy and reliable networking. As with the rest of the MagicQ console, the Ethernet Switch is protected by the UPS, thus ensuring that both the console and the network switch maintain operation even during power loss.

MagicQ Execute Wing

MagicQ Execute WingThe MagicQ Execute Wing provides 48 additional Playbacks, consisting of 1 bank of 12 Playbacks with faders and 3 banks of 12 Playbacks with buttons. Each of the 4 banks has separate paging with dedicated Page Up and Page Down buttons.

In addition to use as Playbacks, the 72 buttons on the upper section support a multi-purpose 12 by 6 matrix of buttons, all with individual button legending and LEDs, enabling advanced user configuration for control of media servers, moving lights and LED fixtures.

Pressing and holding the dedicated MENU button brings up the choice of modes on the middle row of execute buttons. The modes include standard Playbacks, Execute, Media, Heads, Palettes, Cues, Cue Stacks, DMX Test and Head Test. The 6 Page Up and Page Down buttons in the matrix section enable paging and access to advanced functions in each of the modes. Changing of modes is possible at any time at the push of the MENU button - the LCD screens and LEDs immediately change to show the state of the buttons in the new mode whilst remembering the state in the previous modes. Additional modes will be added to the MagicQ software as requested - making this the most flexible control matrix in the lighting industry!

The Execute mode maps the 72 buttons as the MagicQ Execute Window - enabling complete user customisation of the buttons. Just like with the Execute Window itself, multiple different Execute windows can be designed and accessed through the button matrix. Changing between different Execute windows is achieved using the Page Up and Page Down buttons.

The Media mode enables the 72 buttons to become Media access buttons just like in the Media Window - giving full access to media server attributes and providing hard buttons for selection of media server banks, media clips and media FX.

The Heads mode enables the 72 buttons to become a matrix of 72 head select buttons - really useful for larger lighting rigs where it can be difficult to quickly access the required fixtures. Separate modes to enable single head or multiple head selection are available.

The Palettes mode automatically splits the Group, Position, Colour and Beam palettes across the 72 buttons - enabling direct access to groups of moving lights and their attributes. All

groups and palettes are clearly legended for ease of use. The LEDs in the matrix are used to indicate when the Groups and Palettes are active.

The DMX Test and Head Test modes enable simple testing of individual DMX channels or individual heads using the button matrix - each button representing a DMX channel ora complete head. Pressing the button runs a test on that particular channel or head. Latching and non latching modes are available.

Up to 4 Execute Wings can be connected to a MagicQ console or PC system via USB. The Execute Wing provides maximum flexibility with real button touches and electronic legending for ease of use and portability.

MagicQ Two Universe DMX InterfaceMagicQ Two Universe DMX Interface

•Twin isolated DMX512 Outputs•USB connection to MagicQ PC or Mac•Powered from USB or input jack

Connect DMX universes to MagicQ PC, MagicQ Mac and MagicQ consoles with MagicQ Two Universe DMX512 Interface. Connects via USB and provides two independent DMX512 interfaces. The two uninverses are patchable to any of the 18 Universes available in the MagicQ software.

The two DMX outputs are optically isolated from the USB to protect against damage to your PC. DMX framing is generated from within the module, unlike many other dongles, thus giving reliable and secure operation. Highly accurate DMX framing is possible with full 512 bytes frames. The default setting of 33 DMX frames per second provides for accurate stepping of moving lights.

In normal operation the interface is powered from the USB port. A separate 12 volt power input socket is provided for connection to low power USB ports. Can also be used with MagicQ consoles to provide additional DMX outputs.

Supplied complete with USB cable and MagicQ PC software CD.

MagicQ Audio Interface

•Dual audio inputs via phono connectors•7 band hardware frequency analysis•Dual LED Level meters•USB connection to MagicQ

The MagicQ Audio Interface is an interface module for connection MagicQ consoles, MagicQ PC and MagicQ Mac to systems to audio systems to enable automated triggering of lighting, LED and video effects. The MagicQ Audio Interface incorporates dual 7 band audio processing hardware which can analyse the received audio input and relay it to the MagicQ software to enable Playbacks to be triggered. This enables sound activated lighting FX and lighting shows to be realised.

MagicQ software supports audio triggering of fader levels, chase bumping, chase speed control and cue stack jumping all dependent on audio inputs. In addition the Pixel Mapping engine supports audio triggered FX for generation of sound2colour FX on LED fixtures and arrays.

The MagicQ Audio Interface is packaged in the standard MagicQ interface box with a USB input for connection to the MagicQ console or MagicQ PC system. The module has 2 sets of dual phono connectors - left and right high level inputs, and left and right low level inputs. The user can choose which inputs to use dependent on the audio levels available. Two sets of audio level LED indicators help to provide user feedback on the received signals.

The MagicQ Audio Interface can be connected to PCs and Macs running MagicQ software, and also to MagicQ consoles. The MagicQ Audio Interface comes with a USB cable and MagicQ software CD.

MagicQ Four Port Ethernet Interface

The Interface supports four DMX512 ports that are configurable as either inputs or outputs and one DMX port that is always assigned as an Input.

The Interface supports both Art-Net and ACN Streaming DMX network protocols. The DMX512 ports are fully configurable with DMX packet length, framing rate, and timings.

In addition the Interface can operate in a non-network mode as a simple 4 port DMX buffer.

The Interface can be configured from the front panel using a 4 way DIP switch and 2 rotary switches. In addition the Interface can be set to ChamNet mode. In ChamNet mode the Interface is configurable from the MagicQ console avoiding the need for local configuration.

Multiple Interfaces can be used on a single network either configured directly from the front panels or using ChamNet control from a MagicQ console. Multiple Interfaces can be synchronised together to ensure that the DMX output from the Console is consistent and does not involve “tearing” either within universes or across multiple universes.

The Interface can be powered from the ChamSys Power Over Ethernet Network Switch thus avoiding the need to run separate power cables. Alternatively the Interface can be powered directly from mains input on a locking Powercon connector.

When connected via the network to MagicQ the Ethernet Interface unlocks the restricted features of MagicQ such as full screen Execute Window and remote control.

The Interface firmware can be updated over the network from MagicQ consoles or MagicQ software.

MagicQ Remote

MagicQ Remote

iPhone / Android Remote AppMagicQ includes in-built support for use with an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and with mobile phones and touch pads that support the Android operating system.

The Remote App enables selection of traditional lamps for focusing, updating of position and colour palettes for moving lights and general playback of Cues, Cue Stacks and Macros through the Execute Window.

The Remote App consists of four tabs - Connection, Keypad, Focus and Execute.

The Connection tab shows all the MagicQ consoles that have been found on the network and enables one to be chosen for control. Each console can be separately passworded - only consoles that match the password entered in the remote app will show up - this prevents unauthorised use.

The Keypad tab enables the user to select fixtures, set levels and test lamps. In addition, palettes can be selected, included or recorded. The keypad tab includes the most commonly used buttons from the MagicQ console including the keypad, the Palette buttons and CLEAR. The keypad gives status feedback when operations are completed just like on the MagicQ software - for example when a group is selected it confirms that the group has been selected and shows its name. Selecting individual dimmer channels gives instant feedback as to the level of that channel.or the Outputs directly on the iPhone.

The Focus tab enables head control for moving lights - two large encoders are used for pan and tilt. A button allows fine/coarse mode to be selected to allow fine positioning. The standard head control buttons from the console are all available - Next Head, Prev Head, Locate, Odd/Even, Fan, Single, Highlight and All. The Focus tab also has a colour picker for selection of colours and fine tuning of colour temperatures.

The Execute tab enables the user to design their own custom windows and to record and copy groups, palettes, cues, cue stacks and macros into the custom windows. The Remote App mirrors the Execute Window on the MagicQ software - thus any of the items in the window on the MagicQ software become immediately available on the remote phone or touch pad. For example a lighing technician could design a custom window to enable them to check and reset lamps from the stage, or a rigger could design a custom window to allow them to select the lights even when up on the truss focusing.

The Window tab shows the MagicQ Windows from the console, so that it is possible to check the Patch V2 of the App has special supports for the iPad - access to all 8 encoders and all the focus buttons directly from one tab.

For Apple products the ChamSys Remote application can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. For Android products it can be downloaded from the Market.

MagicQ Pixel Mapping

MagicQ Pixel Mapping

MagicQ includes a powerful Pixel Mapping engine that enables images, movies, text and live feed streams to be mapped onto grids of LED fixtures, dimmers or even moving lights.

The MagicQ Pixel Mapper is fully integrated into the MagicQ software and appears just like an external media server.

MagicQ Pixel Mapping enables large numbers of LED elements to be controlled with very simple programming, minimising the programming time and keeping the show file size to an absolute minimum.

In addition the grids can easily be modified if the layout of the LED elements changes, for example when touring. This allows the whole show to be remapped in a few seconds to a different grid layout without having to reprogram any of the Cues.

The MagicQ Pixel Mapper enables Lighting Designers to utilise lighting fixtures in a way never possible before with traditional consoles. The entire lighting rig can be mapped in a very simple and intuitive way.

In Spain Matri Cabra used MagicQ Pixel Mapping to map 500 VariLite VL5 fixtures in a grid formation for the launch of the new Programming season of television channel TV3. The MagicQ was programmed and operated by Felix Angel de Dios and put together by Pako Palazon. Lighting equipment supplied by EML Light and Sound Production Spain.

In Greece, Lighting Designer Philip Hills used MagicQ Pixel Mapping to map on a grid of par cans made up of vertically hung bars of 6.

At Glastonbury and Big Chill festivals Cube Concepts used MagicQ Pixel Mapping to map onto huge installations of water ballast tanks each containing a LED par can.

MagicQ Pixel Mapping is standard in MagicQ software on all platforms; MagicQ consoles, MagicQ PC and MagicQ Mac.

To make the most of your LED fixture you can create a grid containing the LED fixtures and then each fixture becomes a “pixel” in the grid. The MagicQ Media FX Engine can then be used to play back bitmaps, text, movies and in-built FX on the grid. You can design up to 20 different grids - this could be

different LED elements on the stage or it could be the same LED elements but with different spatial organisation - thus allowing media to be played back in different ways.

Each LED element is allocated to a space in the grid - simplyby entering the head numbers in the relevant grid position. It is not necessary to have an LED element allocated to each grid position - you can have spaces in the grid. This is very useful when using LED tiles and LED batons in abstract positions - the FX will be played back across all the elements in their correct positions.

The Auto Group function button enables groups to be automatically generated based on the grid size. This generates groups using the entire grid but with different orders of selection, e.g. from centre to outside, from the edges, and vice versa. This makes it easy to quickly generate different FX.

The user can load custom bmp and jpeg bitmaps and mpeg movies onto the system for playback on the grids. Multiple FX layers can be played back on the grids with different mixing options between the layers. In addition the in-built grid FX generator includes all sorts of horizontal and vertical lines and patterns, random “snowflake falling” type effects, rainbow colour mix effects, audio triggered effects (e.g. level meters) and movement effects.

MagicQ & Media ServersMagicQ & Media Servers

MagicQ is ideally suited to controlling media servers through its powerful Cue Engine and its large colour touch screen. The eight separate encoder wheels enable quick and easy access to the large numbers of control parameters.

MagicQ has extremely powerful support for media servers. It is possible to connect to up to 50 different media servers or intelligent media yokes each with different media content. MagicQ downloads and stores thumbnail previews for the media content from each media server independently. Thumbnails can be downloaded in real time, or once at the start of a programming session.

MagicQ has integration for many different media servers including ArKoas Media Master, Hippotizer, Hippo Critter, Catalyst, Coolux Pandoras Box, Mbox, Maxcedia, Pictural, Robe Digital Spots and many others.

MagicQ supports a special window, the Media Window, solely for controlling media servers, which is opened with the dedicated Media button. This window makes it much easier to control many different media servers. You can select media server, media layer, attributes and media content all from the same window. You can also see what content is selected on each of the layers of the selected media server.

In addition, there is a Live Preview window, which shows the output of the media server, or the output of each of the layers. This is transferred is real time from the media server - so that you can see exactly what the media server is playing. This is particularly useful in situations with many media servers, or media servers that are remote from the control position.

The MagicQ Media Window makes programming of complex media scenes very easy - layer contents can easily be moved or copied between layers. MagicQ supports 16bit values on all attributes and allows 16bit values to be viewd and modifed in full without the user having to perform difficult mental calculations.

MagicQ Morphing & Cloning

Morphing

MorphingMagicQ supports Head Morphing to enable changing from one head type to another. MagicQ automatically transfers the programming from the old head type to the new head type, converting the show data as appropriate. This can be a valuable time saving feature when changing to different lamps.

MagicQ takes into account the pan/tilt degrees of the new head and the palettes used to program the old head. MagicQ understands the difference between CMY and RCB colour mixing, and even will try to convert between fixtures with colour mixing and ones with only colour wheels. MagicQ does an “intelligent” match of beam parameters based on the range information in the personalities - for instance it will match “open shutter” in the source and destination heads.

Head Morphing is a vital feature for the touring Lighting Designer to adapt their show to the house fixtures. ChamSys MagicQ morphing software has been road tested for over 3 years and has helped to make MagicQ a firm favourite - Lighting Desginers want a reliable, no nonsense conversion. Many other systems rely on complex Personality files or generic layers that are not editable by the user - MagicQ personalities are fully editable within the MagicQ software.

Cloning

MagicQ supports Head Cloning to enable you to upsize or downsize your show. A pre-programmed show can easily be expanded to support more of the same heads. Cloning options enable the user to choose whether all of the show data is copied to the new heads, or just the Palettes.

MagicQ also supports Show Export and Show Merging which enables individual groups of lights from particular shows to be extracted from the show files and then merged into other shows.

MagicQ & Visualisation

Visualisation

MagicQ supports connection to Visualisation software packages such as WYSIWYG, Capture, ESP Vision, Martin Show Designer and Light Converse.

MagicQ supports connection with Visualisers via Ethernet protocols. MagicQ also supports transfer of patch and fixture selection information to and from Visualisers. The protocol used to communicate between MagicQ and the Visualiser depends on the particular Visualiser.

ChamSys has developed a number of standard Visualisation executables for the most common moving lights using Capture Visualiser which enable users to learn MagicQ without having to invest in the Visualiser. These take the form of .exe files which can be downloaded and run on a PC. MagicQ includes example show files which work with these Visualisations thus providing an easy way to learn how to use MagicQ.

MagicQ NetworkingNetwork Connectivity

MagicQ Pro consoles have an internal Ethernet switch with four separate network ports on the rear panel enabling easy connection of media servers, multiple consoles, and laptops. Just like the rest of the console, the internal Ethernet Switch is protected by the internal UPS in case of power failure.

Users can directly connect their PCs or Macs to a MagicQ console which will then appear on the network as a server and allow the users to manage the console file system by dragging and dropping files just as if it was an external hard drive or memory stick. This makes transfer of files between PCs, Macs and MagicQ consoles very easy.

The MagicQ software can be used on a PC to remotely monitor and control any MagicQ console or MagicQ PC on the network - for example when used on a wireless enabled tablet PC this can be used as a very comprehensive remote control. MagicQ remote control uses a very low bandwidth protocol which enables immediate and seamless remote control of MagicQ consoles.

MagicQ has an in-built web server which enables any device on the network with a web browser to connect to the MagicQ console or MagicQ PC system and access complete system information through web pages. The web pages include a simple remote control web page which enables remote channel level access through WIFI web browsers on pocket PC style device and mobile phones.

ChamSys publishes it’s Ethernet remote control protocol and the serial remote control protocols thus enabling the end user to develop their own remote control applications or integrate MagicQ into their own systems.MagicQ supports a full range of networking options for connecting multiple consoles and multiple MagicQ PC systems together. MagicQ supports remote control of MagicQ from wireless devices such as mobile phones, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Andorid phones, iPaQ and tablet PCs

Multi Console Synchronisation

It is possible to have many different MagicQ consoles and MagicQ PC systems on a single network – either to allow control of many different devices, remote control or to provide master/slave configurations.

MagicQ supports synchronisation (tracking) of playback between consoles to enable one or more consoles to follow the playback state of the master console.

MagicQ supports synchronising of show file data between consoles so that one console on the network acts as a master console with the master show file whilst slave consoles synchronise to that show data. Programming changes can be made on any of the consoles with the show file on the master being updated and then all other systems synchronised to the master.

MagicQ supports automated copying of shows between consoles – for example to automatically keep a slave console updated with the same show that is running on the master console. This function can also be used as an “archiving system” to enable a central server PC to automatically grab the shows from the consoles on the network for back-up purposes.

MagicQ enables multiple consoles to be used on a network and shows on the separate consoles to be merged together and split up again. Zoning of universes enables consoles to be working on different universes all within the same network. MagicQ does not currently support programming by multiple users on a single console. MagicQ software (Non US) supports programming of a single show file from multiple consoles.

MagicQ consoles can work together over an Ethernet network - either in master/slave operation where only one console is live at a time, or synchronised together for playback to increase the number of universes orsize of show. When in master/slave operation control can be taken or released from any console.
