• People use water in many ways.

• All living things need water.

• The Earth is covered in water!

• Water is essential for living things to grow, reproduce, and carry out other important processes.

• For example, plants need water to go through the process of photosynthesis.

Why Do Living Things Need Water?

• Another way is that water can be a home, or habitat, which provided the things it needs to survive (food, drink, shelter).

Where Is the Water On Earth?

• Most of the Earth’s water (about 97% of it) is salt water found in the oceans.

• The remaining 3% is fresh water.

• But, more than 2/3 of that is frozen in the North and South Pole, so we only have less than 1% of the world’s water available for drinking!

Where Is the Water On Earth?

Water that fills the cracks and spaces in underground soil and rock layers is called groundwater.
