The Game Plan-Tecnology

• Set Goals: design a technology evaluation form that meets your specific needs.

• Take Action: Collect a variety of technology evaluation forms from magazines, journals, the web, or even from school districts with which you have been associated.

• Monitor: review the forms to determine which ones include criteria that you believe are important. What are the consistent elements that appear across forms? What unique elements should use also consider?

• Evaluate and Extend: create an evaluation form that you could use to compare educational software. Use the form to review at least 3 different software titles to determine if the form includes useful criteria or may help you streamline your form.

Categories for software

• Shareware: often allows you to preview the software for a limited time and then requires purchase, but usually minimal cost.

• Freeware: has no cost, but you should not assume it is not copyright protected.

Solving routine problems:

• Isolate the problem• Identify the best solution• Apply a solution and check your results• Repeat, if necessary

Hardware Maintenance

• Routine servicing• Repairing• Replacing consumables• Adding components

Software maintenance

• Installing new software• Reinstalling and updating current software• File maintenance• Safeguarding software

Technical assistance

• volunteers can do:– Cleaning computer monitor screens, keyboards,

and mice– Dusting behind computers and wiring– Supervising computer labs– Providing technical assistance to students when

working on computers– Providing data entry and word processing.
