Hardware Selection

• Existing hardware that will address your need without any modifications.

• Existing hardware that will address your need after modifications.

• New hardware that is selected specifically to address the need.

Selecting Digital Resources and Technologies:

• Set a goal for technology use• Specify requirements• Locate resources• Read reviews and recommendations

Relevant information from software reviews:

• Title:– Publisher/distributor– Cost– System requirements– Grade level– Type of software– Content area– Instructional goals– Strengths noted in review– Limitations noted in review– Overall rating

Evaluate Technology• Secure a review copy• Preview the technology• Establish criteria for review

– Content– Free of bias and stereotypes– Goals and standards– Intended audience– Instructional approach– Product quality and ease of use– Documentation– User support– Teacher support– Equipment needs and compatibility– Cost

The Game Plan-Tecnology

• Set Goals: design a technology evaluation form that meets your specific needs.

• Take Action: Collect a variety of technology evaluation forms from magazines, journals, the web, or even from school districts with which you have been associated.

• Monitor: review the forms to determine which ones include criteria that you believe are important. What are the consistent elements that appear across forms? What unique elements should use also consider?

• Evaluate and Extend: create an evaluation form that you could use to compare educational software. Use the form to review at least 3 different software titles to determine if the form includes useful criteria or may help you streamline your form.

Categories for software

• Shareware: often allows you to preview the software for a limited time and then requires purchase, but usually minimal cost.

• Freeware: has no cost, but you should not assume it is not copyright protected.
