This Month’s Funny

A man is in court. The Judge says, “On the 3rd of August, you are accused of killing your wife by beating her to death with a hammer. How do you plead?" "Guilty", said the man in the dock. At this point a man at the back of the court stood up and shouted "You dirty rat!" The Judge asked the man to sit down and to refrain from making any noise. The Judge continued "..... and that also on the 17th of September you are accused of killing your son by beating him to death with a hammer. How do you plead"? "Guilty", said the man in the dock. Again the same man at the back stood up and shouted even louder, "You dirty rotten stinking rat"! At this point the Judge called the man to the bench and said, "I have already asked you to be quiet. If you continue with these outbursts, I will have to charge you with contempt of court. I can understand your feelings, but what relationship have you to this man?" He replied, "He is my next door neighbor". The Judge replied, "I can understand your feelings then, but you must refrain from any comments". The man replied "No, your Honor. You don't understand. Twice I have asked if I could borrow a hammer, and BOTH TIMES he said he didn't have one"!!!

WOW! Our first gathering since February saw 33 members attend in an open pavilion in Lititz, Pa. The pavilion was large

enough for social distancing, and we just enjoyed seeing each other again. Zoom and email are OK, but being in the presence of

our B family is special. We would like to thank Rob and Pat who shared their home for the Gotcha moment with Eric. All the

decorations and food along with all guidelines met to pull off a surprise for Eric. Of course, the whole chapter knew about it but

Eric. We also wanted to thank all the veterans of Chapter B, whether current or past members, for their service to our Nation.

We have 29, and Eric is our member on active duty.

Looking ahead to August, we will be busy bees again with a trip to the BMW private museum in Maryland. Then on the 8th, Jim

Good has a beautiful covered-bridge ride, a picnic stop along the way, and then a stop at Lapps to finish the day. The 15th is a

break in the month unless a total washout on the 8th for Jim. If so, we’ll do Jim’s ride. It is also Eric’s deployment day. The 22nd

is our second open-pavilion gathering at 10 AM at the Elks Lodge #1933 170 Akron Rd. Ephrata, Pa. 17522. After the gathering

for those who choose to ride, we’ll head to Quaker Steak and Lube in York to meet Chapter C for lunch, eat in/out or take out.

They have challenged us to a mini golf game as they believe they are better ! Then we’ll go on to ice cream before

heading home. If you want to only do mini golf and ice cream, those times will be announced as we get closer to the

event. We have cancelled the progressive dinner as well as pretzel-making although we hope those can happen in

2021. Carl Esbenshade is planning a ride on August 29th

.

At Spring Fling, we will have a large tent set up beside the pavilion so social distancing will be easier. We ask that face

masks be worn when distancing can’t be achieved. Chapter V will be with us this year. They’ll be raffling two baskets

off as their fund-raising this year is little to, maybe, none. Yes, it will be different this year, but this is what we have

been dealt. Even though it may not be what we are used to, we are blessed to have our Fling. We will have fun

because that is what we do. Send your registration in as it needs to be in by the 12th

September.

Hello to all! Did July just fly by, or is it just me thinking that? Summer is half way over, and how time flies.

Pam and I did have an out west trip scheduled for the first part of July, but the pandemic put that on hold

for this year. Instead, we took a trip to the beautiful Outer Banks. Pam and I were never there, so we had

to go to see it for ourselves. We spent most of our time on the beach and swimming in the ocean. One of

our friends loved to make sand sculptures, so we enjoyed sitting in his full-size sand Jeep and his six seater

sand bus. It was so hilarious! We also took a tour to see the Spanish Mustang horses that roam the island.

They were so beautiful! Pam and I did tow the Goldwing down along with our kayaks. We would get up

early in the morning and ride the bike down along the coast to see the sand dunes, the waves splashing on

the beach, and a couple of lighthouses. We had a great time!

The first July Tuesday night ice-cream social was at Oregon Dairy, and we had over fifteen Chapter B

members there. There was plenty of ice-cream consumed that evening.

Next event was a surprise birthday party for Sandy Spence. Pam and I led a ride from Dutch Way Family

Restaurant in Schaefferstown down route 897 and then back roads to Rob & Pat Simmons’ house where the

celebration was held. Pat and Rob had the whole pool area decorated beautifully for the celebration. We

all had a wonderful time splashing in the pool, a delicious meal, and cake.

Second Tuesday ice cream social was at Down on the Farm Creamery. It was very warm that evening and

made the ice-cream taste more inviting. We had over twenty members there that evening.

Next event was a pool party at our house. It just so happened to be my birthday. Pam hired a DJ that

played music for the crowd, and there were some dancers in the crowd that showed us the moves to the

Electric Slide. We all had a fun time!

Third Tuesday social ice-cream was at The Udder Choice in Ephrata. We had a nice covered tent where we

gathered and had a meal and ice-cream. Chapter B had fifteen members attend that evening.

Chapter B had our first real gathering since the pandemic began. We gathered at St. James Catholic Church

pavilion. There were 33 members present. It was great to see everyone. Don Engle’s name was drawn for

the buck-a-ride cash prize. The 50-50 was won by Gerry Kerkeslager and Doug Hogue. Congratulations to

all! After the gathering, Ron Spence led a ride down along the Susquehanna river to Rob & Pat Simmons

where the Chapter had a surprise going away deployment party for Eric Clavier. Eric, you and your family

will be in our prayers.

Four of our Chapter members are heading south to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway Great Smoky Mountains.

They are, Jim Duff, Rob Simmons, Craig Lenhard, and Bill

Bard. We wish them safe travels and looking forward to

hearing about your trip.

Give someone your smile today,

Pam & Jay Bomberger

It is August! What a great month to ride!

Hello everyone, Lancaster County is now Green, and Chapter B is becoming more active each week. Everything in

the GWRRA PA District scheduled for June and July have either been postponed or cancelled. The one exception

was Chapter R’s Gumball Ride, which was held on July 18th. Chapter B has been out and about, returning to

Tuesday night ice cream with guidelines in mind. We also have rides scheduled every Saturday. If you choose to

go on a ride, let us know on the website. If you are going on a ride and you want company, either try using the

Chapter Website or the Shared Member Roster if you signed up to tell other members.

Indiantown National Gap Cemetery: We were finally permitted to do the flag maintenance at the cemetery as a

small tribute to our fallen heroes. In July, we had 9 chapter members participating: Gerry & Bonnie Kerkeslager,

Mike Yavor, John Yavor, John & Faye Oberholser, Duayne Keen, Doug Hogue, and John Parker. The whole morning

only took about 1½ hours. On August 1st, we had Mike Yavor, John Yavor, Duane Keene, Gerry & Bonnie

Kerkeslager, and John Parker. On Sat., Sept. 5, come out and join us. The details will be in the weekly updates from

our Chapter Director. It is special to remember those who sacrificed so much for us.

Nothing new on Roll for Dough. Due to the Corona Virus, there will be no chapter visits or rallies until we can go

again. We still have 6 points. It has become pretty clear that chapter visits will not be an option for a while. That

said, the miniature golf challenge with PA Chapter C is still in the schedule and will happen after our August

gathering on August 22nd. It will be a ride to Quaker Steak and Lube for lunch with Chapter C followed by

miniature golf. Then, of course, there will be a ride for ice cream before returning home.

The July ARL had nothing new for Chapter B, and I will be completing my report to District. We have a new couple

attending some of our events, George & Sue Heck, who were introduced to Chapter B in Florida by Carl & Bonnie

Esbenshade. When you have the opportunity to meet George & Sue, make them welcome. I believe they will soon

be our newest members.

During the month of August, the Parkers plan to be out and about a little more, doing chapter functions, visiting

some friends, and those essential visits to doctors, etc. When you receive the weekly updates, watch for details on

our activities and, of course, our chapter website has all the details and sign-up procedures. In the meantime, stay

safe, and keep the virus in mind no matter what you are doing so that it does not spread any further. Our prayers

are with each of you, and remember that He is in control.

As you know by now our Annual Spring Fling has been postponed to September 19th. Details are on the website. It

is a go, so please sign up and send your registration to Connie so we can have an accurate count for the folks from

Mission Barbeque.

“Chapter Pride”, is important when we are out as a group, eating out, doing a fund raiser. We want everyone to

know who we are, so that they can appreciate our safe riding and good behavior. We have in Chapter B, not only

beautiful machines; we also have a wonderful group of people with a common interest. So, continue to make us

proud.

If you know a motorcyclist with any brand of bike, invite them to a gathering, a chapter function, or a chapter ride.

That is the only way they can get a good look at us. We welcome all riders/co-riders to come enjoy our events. We

promise a good time.

Wife: Darling today is our anniversary, what should we do? Husband: Let

us stand in silence for 2 minutes.

The old lady was being interviewed by reporters on the occasion of her

110th birthday. "What do you think is the reason for your long life?" they

asked her. "Oh," she replied, "I suppose it's because I was born such a

long time ago."

District Directors’ Page Have you been out riding? Have you been riding with a chapter, friends or only your motorcycle? We have had great weather for riding and it is only August. There is time for you to get out there and enjoy motorcycling. One of the joys of motorcycling for us, is to get away from the phone, com-puter and other distractions we have in our life. We get to enjoy the beautiful county we live in!

We hope your chapter is able to get together for a monthly gathering and some group riding. Yes, there are challenges. If the restaurant you meet in is unable to accommodate you for your gather-ing due to the guide-lines they must abide by hopefully, your chapter has found an alternative such as a park or pavilion to meet at.

Group riding has also become a challenge. Some of our members do not feel comfortable frequent-ing public establishments. And many of our group rides have stops for breaks and food and it is not easy knowing what is open or can accommodate your group. It may be necessary to take shorter rides to eliminate some of the obstacles.

We are fortunate that we are invited to join many Zoom Meetings. And throughout the USA, dis-tricts and chapters are encountering the same challenges we are in Pennsylvania. A generalization would be that GWRRA members are comfortable participating with their chapter family but, many are not ready to participate with their extended GWRRA family.

We always encourage visitation but, during this pandemic it has made it challenging with the current mandates. So, if your chapter is trying to plan your holiday party and if it would make it easier and possible for you to hold your holiday party if you did not invite other chapters to your party, it is ac-ceptable to have your holiday party for your chapter.

Virginia District Rally – Rally in the Valley is October 29-31 2020 in Lynchburg, VA. There registra-tion form is attached to this month’s PA District newsletter. If you are planning on attending, get your registration in. Based on reservations, they will be making a decision in August to have or not to have the rally. If they cancel refunds will be issued.

Looking forward to 2021, the PA District Rally “Ride Back in Time” is May 20-22, 2021 in Cranberry Township, PA located 25 miles north of Pittsburgh at the Pittsburgh Marriot North. It is a beautiful hotel and location. The rally flyer is posted on the PA District website and listed under events on the GWRRA PA District page on GroupWorks.

We have received numerous registrations. Get your registration in soon if you plan on taking an Ad-vanced Rider Course (ARC), a Trike Rider Course (TRC), Road Captain Course (RCC) or the Med-ic First Aid® (MFA). The classes are filling up.

Don’t forget your room reservations by calling the hotel at 800-853-5574 and use code GWRRA to get our discounted room rate and breakfast or make your online reservation by using the link on the flyer, PA District website or GroupWorks.

This pandemic has changed the world we live and work in; adjustments are being made. All of us need to do our part to keep ourselves and our friends and neighbors safe.

Keep safe, be well and we hope to see all of you soon! Remember to always ride safe! So, let’s get out and ride!

FROM YOUR PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR

Summer is quickly coming to an end now and fall will soon be upon us, and the leaves will soon be starting to change color in our area. This brings with it both beauty and an added element of danger for the late season rider. We have all heard the standard warnings of WET LEAVES affecting traction. What appears to be missing is a recommendation on what to do if you encounter this situation.

The second thing we will encounter this time of the year is RAIN. Haul out the raingear you’ve stowed in a handy spot. Make sure your rain gloves and rain boots fit properly. Poorly fitted ones can lessen your ability to brake and shift.

Be most cautious when it first starts to rain. That is when the water goes into all the dimples in the road, and the oil residue from passing vehicles floats to the top. That gets slippery! A wise motorcyclist will stop for a cup of coffee when it starts to rain; who knows, it could be all over in 15 minutes, and you won’t even have to put on the rain suit.

After a while the oil will be washed off to the side of the road. However, traction on a wet surface may not be as good as on a dry road. Be careful.

The third thing we will encounter this time of the year is FOG. Cool mornings and evenings, after a warm day, tend to produce fog in what is

referred to as low-lying areas. If you think you may have a chance of riding into a fog area, carry a small towel or soft water absorbing cloth in your

Jacket pocket where it is easy to get to. You may have to clean your windshield to see well. Slow down and if you think you are traveling too slow, run your hazard flashers. I have found that the lower running lights are a big plus for driving in fog.

In any of the above low traction situations, (sand, black ice, wet pavement, slippery leaves, etc.) the best advice is avoidance. Barring that, use a method of identification, prediction, and reaction to prepare for and successfully overcome obstacles such as those mentioned above.

A question which has been being ask a lot in recent months is do I need a special license to operate a Trike or a Scooter.

I checked at the licensing center and the following information is what I received.

The way this is going to work is if you originally took your test on a two- wheel motorcycle your license will show a M with no restrictions unless you wear glasses etc., and you can operate any type of motorcycle or scooter.

If you are a first-time applicant and take your test on a Trike, you will receive a license with a M but under restrictions you will have a 9 which means you are only allowed to operate a Trike.

If you are a first-time applicant and take your test on a Scooter, you will receive a license with a M but under restrictions you will have an 8 which means you are only allowed to operate a Scooter.

As your Chapter takes its last scheduled rides of the season, let us all think SAFETY, keeping the situations mentioned above in mind, and ending our riding season on a safe note. REMEMBER < ATGATT >
