The View From the East Greetings from The East,

Our 2018 Past Master’s Night did not have any degree work as none of our five (5) Brothers that are making their way through the degrees were ready to advance. Still we had a great dinner of oven roasted and fried turkey, fried oysters, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and mixed vegetables. Great fellowship followed at the Communication.

I want to thank Brother Guy York for frying the turkey and oysters, especially my wife Carol and Brother Darrell Kolscher’s wife Pam for preparing and serving the rest of the meal for us. These ladies have been invaluable to me making sure our special dinners are just that – special.

The November 14th Communication is going to be a busy one in that we will have a Master Mason Catechism done by Brother David Anderson, an Entered Apprentice catechism done by Brother Mike Meadowcroft and if successful he will then be Passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft.

WE HAVE DISPENSATION TO START THIS MEETING AT 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow.

Once again since we will be having so much to do that evening the Lodge Officers have decided to forgo a meal prior to the Communication and instead start the meeting at 6:30 p.m. (we have a dispensation) and have a deli tray after we close the Lodge Communication

Lastly, Brother Fred Lunn, P.M. has asked him to announce that W.M. Dan Kempler of Pythagoras Lodge No. 123, has asked him to pass along and cordially and fraternally invite the Brethren of Charity Lodge No. 134 and their ladies to join them at their Ladies Night. It will be held on December 8, 2018, at Friendly Farms. Menu will be roast beef, fried chicken, and fried shrimp. They have reserved the lower level dining area. Entertainment is Mr. Dave, a renowned illusionist, who will perform close up magic at the tables during dinner, and will hold a Magic Show after dinner. There is a charge of $40.00 per person.

If anyone is interested in joining Pythagoras that evening please contact their Secretary, Brother Mike Smith for exact time and details. You can mail your check to him at 400 Hammershire Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Brother Mike Smith’s phone number is: 410-967-8943. His email is: [email protected]

Looking to the West Greetings Brethren from the West, First off, I would like to thank Carroll and Pam for their efforts supporting our Past Master’s night dinner. Also, I can’t forget to thank all our brothers who contributed to the dinner. For those who could not make it, we had a delicious turkey dinner with fried oysters, sausage and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, among other tasty victuals. And, of course, thanks to all of our Past Masters, who are the very foundation of our Lodge. I hope to see you all at our stated communication on November 14th to support our brothers David Anderson and Mike Meadowcroft in their masonic journeys as they exemplify their catechisms for the Entered Apprentice and Master Mason degrees, respectively, and to support Brother Meadowcroft in passing to the Degree of Fellowcraft! As our Masonic year is drawing to an end, we may contemplate the glorious works of creation as we observe the variety of scenes displayed by our ever-varying Maryland weather.

Fraternally yours, Jeff Westra, Senior Warden

From the South

Greetings from the South, If you missed Past Masters Night you missed a great dinner of Turkey and Oysters with all the trimmings. Many thanks to those who helped prepare the feast especially Carol Neal and Pam Kolscher who spent many hours in the kitchen preparing and cleaning up. As always, it was great to see the Past Masters who were there. Also, thanks to those who stepped up and filled the vacant chairs.

Sincerely & Fraternally Dave Adams, Junior Warden

From the Secretary’s Desk

Dues Increase By now or soon you will receive your 2019 Dues Invoice from Charity Lodge No. 134. The Grand Lodge has increased its dues assessment by $10 for 2019 and they will increase the assessment another $10 in 2020. CHARITY LODGE HAS NOT INCREASED ITS PORTION OF YOUR DUES. This applies to regular and dual members. If your home lodge is another Maryland lodge they will bill you the increase. This action is to bring the Grand Lodge’s dues income closer to its expenses. Despite efforts to attract new members, retain existing members and trim expenses, the Grand Lodge felt that it had to increase dues rather than continuing to tap into its endowments for operating expenses. Charity Lodge No. 134 is financially healthy with a great line of officers and a pipeline of candidates. The system of committees and budgeting for their needs established by Worshipful Master Neal has helped to contain our expenses. Likewise, due to aggressive efforts, we have very few members dropped each year for the non-payment of dues. You can help by helping a good man become a better man through Freemasonry. If you have any questions or feel that you need help with paying your dues, please call me the Secretary (410-785-3130).

Sincerely & Fraternally

W. Miles Cole, Secretary

Committees

Charitable Contributions: Co-Chairs Bill Minor & Jay Brown

Building & Grounds: Co-Chairs Keith Chesla,

Hello Brethren, To date we have spent approximately $1,250 of the $3,000.00 budget. We approved the estimate for the chair lift repairs and the parts have been ordered. Brother Jim Ambrose installed an asphalt berm along Middletown Rd to hopefully prevent the storm water from coming down the sidewalk and going in the side door. Feel free to make any suggestions for projects or building concerns that we should address.

Sincerely & Fraternally Keith Chesla Co-Chairman

Brethren, The Holiday Season is upon us and we are about to begin our donation process to the needy in our Community. Please contact the committee with any worth cause we should consider. On Past Master’ Night several Brothers donated, in total, and additional $110 to add to our remaining Charitable Contributions budget. We more than thank them for their additional support and will gladly accept more!!

Brother Jay Brown, Marshall

Raffle: Co—Chairs Dave Adams & James Ambrose

Brethren,

Nothing new to report. As always, we welcome your ideas and suggestions on not only raffle ideas, but also ways we can bring income to the Lodge.
