President’s Message!!There’s an old saying “ The older you get the faster time flies by” well how true that is. I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by, we’re getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving and I’m taking reservations for the Christmas and Awards Banquet. !Our first Obedience and Rally Trial at our Training Center and will be held on December 6 & &, we will be offering Beginner Novice A & B, Novice A & B, and all of the Rally classes. We will need help with stewarding. It is going to be so nice not to have to roll mats and transport them to the Fairgrounds and then do the same and return them and set up the rings in our Training Center. !Don’t forget to sign up for the Rachel Flatley Seminar on December 27 & 28, the details are on page 7. This seminar will be for those that are in Open and Utility. If you haven’t already attended one of her seminars, you don’t want to miss it. !!Classes are going very well and are staying full most of the time, we ask that you sign up and pay for your class ahead of time. Putting your name in the book doesn’t guaranteed you will be able to get into that class unless it’s paid for in advance. We require vaccination records with your application or have a copy that we can put on file for you, if you are not sure there is one on file, you need to send one in.!!I hope you have a Very Happy Thanksgiving!and I’ll see you at the November!meeting!!!Joan Costello

From Carol Clifton,!On October 3, 2012, SHINKO was diagnosed with Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (CDS).  She has been active as a Therapy Dog with TDInc. for 6 years and has now started showing signs of stress during the visits.  Since her illness was getting progressively worse, I decided it was time to retire her from the Therapy Dog visits.  I notified the organization about this and they presented her with a certificate honoring her 6 years of faithful service and her documented visits of 241.   !On September 16, 2014, our Therapy Dog group of Jan deGraff, Valerie Vetter, Carol Mason and Nancy Rogers, held a retirement luncheon for SHINKO and myself at Jan's lovely home.  They planned a delicious lunch and an afternoon of nosework games, which SHINKO loved.  They also presented us with lovely gifts.  It was an afternoon that we will cherish for a long time.   Thank you all.SHINKO has some awesome days and all seems well; then it will turn around and not be so good.  We are just dealing with it day by day, and I try to keep her life stress free.   If you all believe in doggie prayers, please keep her in yours...........Carol

Obedience Club of Daytona General Meeting Minutes! ! ! October 13, 2014!!The regular club meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm on Monday 10/13/2014 with (30) members present and (2) guests (Fran Brown and Kris Davenport). Alan Israelson sat in for Secretary Kathy Nicastro. !The minutes of the 9/8/2014 regular meeting were published in the newsletter. !Wins and Brags were announced with many club members having done well. !Pat Mozden addressed the meeting about the House Next Door Pet Festival held Sept. 27th at the Port Orange City Center. She felt that our participation in such events is very positive exposure for OCOD. As the nominating committee chair, she announced the following candidates for club office: Joan Costello, President; Maria Orlando, Vice President; Hoke Johnson, Treasurer; Carrie Ayron McCord, Secretary; Claire Israelson, Jean Van Horn & Sharon Viscovi - Board of Directors. !Ralph Orlando requested, and received, volunteers for the December trials to be held at our training center and requested donations of pet-related art for an upcoming charity auction. Please contact Ralph for details. !Treasurer Hoke Johnson announced the following financials: $9818.29 income with $8821.86 in expenses for a positive balance of $996.43. A sheet detailing club investments was at the desk for member’s individual inspection. !The following new members were announced: Fransid L. Brown of Umatilla: Kris Davenport of Deland; Doreen Massin of NSB; Martha Dee & John Thibodeaux of Serrento; Brittany Swigert & Jeffery Abrams of Daytona Beach. !Old Business: The issue of sponsor banners was brought up with the need for correct wording before proceeding, which should be accomplished soon. !New Business: Ralph Orlando requested that the rental of the building to interested parties issue be reopened in regards to pricing. This was referred to the building committee for deliberation. Joan Costello announced that the deadline for ordering plaques is November 10th. Joan also stated that 2015 OCOD dues are payable before January 1, 2015, and she is accepting reservations for our awards banquet to be held Monday December 8th at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club. The price is $11.00 for members and $22.00 for non-members and guests, Life Membership $-0-. !At 8:50 pm, a motion to adjourn was made by Renee Johnson and seconded by Ralph Orlando.
