What We DoAt Chelmsford Mencap we are committed to providing as many recreational and social activities for our members their families friends and carers Members enjoy a varied choice of the clubs below giving them the opportunity to make new friends whilst receiving the respect they deserve from our dedicated and accredited volunteers

What You Can DoWe always need volunteers to help us at our clubs and events We can usually find a position and frequency that suits you whether it be working a couple of hours on a fortnightly basis or assisting with office duties in your own home

All volunteers receive a free CRB check full expenses paid including mileage at 40p per mile a free copy of our quarterly news magazine and are entered into our prestigious award for Volunteer of the Year Free training courses such as 1st Aid and Appointed Person can also be provided as necessary

Volunteers that help out at our various outings and events receive complimentary tickets Last year some of our volunteers enjoyed free days out at places such as Thorpe Park a Thames River Cruise The Snowman Production and Chessington World of Adventures with expenses paid for lunch also

subsidised childcare services for members during the Easter and Summer school holidays for just pound700 a day for those with a learning difficultyspecial needs

bull Various activities and outings are organised for each session that some members would not otherwise have the opportunity to go to all with the help of one to one volunteer support and companionship

Gateway Club 16 years+bull A drop in centre open to all members for just 50p per

session with free snacks and beverages we meet at the Westlands Community Primary School Beeches Close every Thursday (term time only) between 7pm amp 9pm

bull Activities are chosen in advance by the members and they regularly enjoy Tenpin Bowling Darts Discos Line Dancing Bingo Drawing Gardening and Entertainers etc

bull Nearly 30 members practice every Monday at this free club based at Boswellrsquos School Springfield between 7pm-8pm they regularly perform in various shows and events across the county

Gateway Kidz Club 5-16 YearsbullOpen to members of Chelmsford Mencap this friendly youth club provides weekly term time sessions every Tuesday at Woodlands School Chelmsford between 515pm-645pm Entry costs just pound500 per session (payable in advance) with snacks and beverages freebullThe club also works in partnership with the King Edward Grammar School (KEGS) to provide various fun activities and entertainers at each session with one to one help available from accredited volunteers

bull This club was opened in December 2007 by singersongwriter Nik Kershaw and is open to members over the age of 19 years and activities take place at both Chelmsford College Campusrsquo

bull The Club runs during the Christmas Easter and Summer holidays and members enjoy a variety of outings and activities for just pound500 a day such as theatre trips theme parks zoo trips tenpin bowling arts and crafts London Eye and variety of sports

CMYC (Youth Club) 16-25 Yearsbull This Youth Club was launched in January 2008 by

Simon Burns MP as a stepping stone between our Gateway Kidz Club and our Gateway Club and runs 50 weeks a year entry costs just pound100 per session with free snacks and beverages

bull The club is based at the St John Payne School every Tuesday evening between 630pm-830pm and members enjoy a variety of activities and equipment with occasional special trips to Tenpin and Pizza Hut

AJrsquos After School Activity Club 5-16 Years

bull This club is planning to launch in September 2008 and we are already assisting in the provision of a Dance Group at Woodlands School We are currently in discussions with the Chelmsford New Model Special School Committee to forge a close working partnership for the benefit members and pupils

bull The club will hopefully be held at the Haywards School Campusrsquo between 315pm-6pm approx

anyway funded by them

bull Our income is generated through fundraising grants from local councils trusts businesses and bequeaths with a very small percentage coming from our membership subscriptions club fees and rental from our premises in Mildmay Road that is leased to Learning for Work (a Royal Mencap project)

bull On average we are required to raise pound122000 every year in order to sustain the services we provide So donrsquot delay support us by joining Chelmsford Mencap today

What We DoAt Chelmsford Mencap we are committed to providing as many recreational and social activities for our members their families friends and carers Members enjoy a varied choice of the clubs below giving them the opportunity to make new friends whilst receiving the respect they deserve from our dedicated and accredited volunteers

What You Can DoWe always need volunteers to help us at our clubs and events We can usually find a position and frequency that suits you whether it be working a couple of hours on a fortnightly basis or assisting with office duties in your own home

All volunteers receive a free CRB check full expenses paid including mileage at 40p per mile a free copy of our quarterly news magazine and are entered into our prestigious award for Volunteer of the Year Free training courses such as 1st Aid and Appointed Person can also be provided as necessary

Volunteers that help out at our various outings and events receive complimentary tickets Last year some of our volunteers enjoyed free days out at places such as Thorpe Park a Thames River Cruise The Snowman Production and Chessington World of Adventures with expenses paid for lunch also
