05 - 006New Boron-Rich Materials: Cubic Carbaborides of Sodium andPotassium. — The new ternary compounds NaB5C and KB5C areprepared by reaction of sodium or potassium with boron and graphite in amolar ratio of 6:5:1 at 1050 ◦C for NaB5C (2 h) and at 1100 ◦C for KB5C(16 h). Both compounds crystallize in the cubic space group Pm3m with Z = 1.The compounds consist of an anionic B/C octahedral framework. Carbonatoms are statistically distributed over the boron sites. The new phases areisotypic with known cubic hexaborides, e.g. CaB6. KB5C is diamagnetic andexhibits semiconducting behavior. — (ALBERT, BARBARA; SCHMITT,KONNY; Chem.
