BLUES GUITAR 1 Learn 8/12 bar blues forms

Chord forms used in major and minor Blues

Time keeping, the essence of making music

BLUES GUITAR 2 Learn variations and alternate blues forms, minor

blues forms, popular blues rhythms

Chord inversions used in major and minor Blues progressions.

Counting and comping through the various forms.

BLUES GUITAR 3 The blues scales

Common idiomatic expressive nuances applied through articulations/bends, slides, hammers and pull-offs

Tone and its relationship to playing technique, its relationship to the instrument, and to the amplifier.

Motif development and what makes a distinctive melody.

BLUES BASS 1 The Blues scale and bass lines

Time keeping, the essence of making music.

Holding down the bottom with the bass, creating a solid foundation, subtlety of the “Deep pocket.”

Appropriate bass “orchestration”. Patterns for the various feels. Doubling the bass line or main riff, playing counter rhythms.

LOCATIONChicago Blues Camp is located in downtown Chicago. Classes are held at the facilities of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Student lodging, meals, lectures and workshops are held in Roosevelt’s Wabash Avenue high rise dorm.

Our Vision is to become a vital member of the Chicago Blues Community actively supporting and promoting Chicago Blues music, performers and venues

Our Mission is to be the best place to learn how to play Chicago style blues and to create a unique and fulfilling immersion experience in the Chicago Blues music culture
