The now Australian-based Johnson,

who previously forged his career as an agent in the UK under the guidance

of the respected Hubie de Burgh, was instrumental in the purchase of the

Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Warning as a yearling and wisely

chose to keep a share in the gelding.

He rewarded Johnson’s faith by winning last year’s Victoria Derby (Gr

1, 2500m) at Flemington and raced four times at Group 1 level in Sydney

and Adelaide during the autumn behind horses such as Shadow Hero

(Pierro), Castelvecchio (Dundeel), Quick Thinker (So You Think) and

Russian Camelot (Camelot).

Warning will again clash with his four-year-old peers Quick Thinker,

Dalasan (Dalakhani) and Makybe Diva Stakes favourite Russian Camelot

in the Flemington weight for age race on Saturday, but Johnson was not

expecting him to be causing an upset.

Johnson said Warning had been given two grass gallops and jump-

outs at Mornington to prepare him for his spring return.

“I was speaking to Sam Freedman earlier in the week and he said

that he might be carrying a little bit more surplus (weight) than what you

normally would going into a first-up run, which is probably a sign that he’s

developed and matured and maintained that good baseline through the

spell,” Johnson said yesterday.

“Although the first Tuesday in November is around the corner, he’s

got quite a few kilometres to get into his legs, so I am sure Anthony and

Sam will know exactly how to program him so that he is coming into form

around then.”

Johnson is hopeful that Warning, who was handed 53 kilograms

for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups when weights were

released on Tuesday, can improve on his autumn form and loom as a

genuine chance at Flemington in a race that is expected to be light on

international horses.

“Coming to Sydney, his first three runs

there, he was never far off them and he was hitting the line behind those

horses with quite lofty reputations,” he said.

“If you go back and watch the ride in the (Australian) Derby - and I

don’t want to be too unkind to the jockey (Tommy Berry) who has to make

split-second decisions - the horse just had to do too much, too early and

the race was over before it had begun.

“From there, he went to Adelaide and acquitted himself well but,

probably off a few hard runs, by the time he got the (South Australian)

Derby he might just have been running on tired legs (when third).”

Billy Egan will ride Warning, a $41 chance, from barrier nine in

Saturday’s Makybe Diva.

Johnson on market watchOperating within the constraints of Covid-19, Johnson’s bloodstock

agency has still been active, brokering deals for Group 1-winning mares

Amphitrite (Sebring) and Seabrook (Hinchinbrook) to be sent to Japan

while also negotiating for horses to be bought and sold in Europe and the

US.

“Everyone’s had to adapt to the situation that’s presented itself. One

door closes on travelling internationally, another one opens domestically,”

he said.

“It’s been a very fruitful sales season with Darby Racing securing

27 yearlings from the Classic (sale) up until recently and a handful of

them are looking to be at the trials in the next couple of weeks which

is exciting.

“(Covid-19) probably hasn’t slowed down international transactions

or purchases, either, and there’s been a few broodmares that I’ve been

able to purchase that are heading to Japan and to America.

“There’s also been a few deals done in Europe through Hubie. It’s more

about utilising my contacts through my trips overseas to ensure business

is done. With technology, photos and videos being up to scratch and a guy

like Hubie being able to inspect a horse for me, the lines of business are

still open.”

While unlikely to feature on the buyers’ sheet at Arqana in France or

at Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland in the US in the coming days, the young

agent will have more than a passing interest in the results.

“It’s probably not normally my market, but I’m more interested in the

depths of the sales,” he said.

“Goffs Doncaster was a long way off the pace compared to previous

years, so I am more interested to see how the market holds up in Europe

and America.

“I am sure the top-end will, but the middle to bottom end is very

important and hopefully for all consignors in those jurisdictions, the

market holds up as resilient as we’ve seen that it can be in difficult

times.”

Childs picks up Dalasan ride

In-form jockey Jordan Childs will have the

chance to add another Group 1 to his CV after

picking up the ride on leading fancy Dalasan

(Dalakhani) in Saturday’s Makybe Diva Stakes

(Gr 1, 1600m) at Flemington. The four-year-old

is set to step back up into the highest grade for

the first time since finishing second behind

Russian Camelot (Camelot) in the South

Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) back in May

and co-trainer Leon MacDonald is hoping his

charge can make the crucial breakthrough on

the weekend. "I'd love to win a Group 1 race

with him. He deserves to and this race was

always on our agenda," MacDonald said. "He's

got Group 1 ability and he deserves to win one

at that level. He'll run very well and I'm hoping

it's a win, but it's a deep field." MacDonald and

co-trainer Andrew Gluyas have set the Cox

Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) as their main spring goal for

Dalasan. "Ideally that's the race we'd like to get

him to so he needs to be running well to justify

that plan," MacDonald added.

Baker’s cup hopes settle in wellAustralian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Quick

Thinker (So You Think) will kick off his Cup

campaign in the Makybe Diva Stakes on a

Flemington card where stablemate The Chosen

One (Savabeel) will also be looking to put down

his marker for the spring features. Mick Dee will

ride both horses and Murray Baker, who trains

the pair in partnership with Andrew Forsman,

is pleased with the reports from travelling

foreperson Aleisha Legg. “They’ve settled in

pretty well and the fact they have been there

before is a big help,” Baker said. “They’re in

the same boxes as last year.” Both horses have

had two trials in New Zealand ahead of their

Melbourne campaign but are expected to

improve for their respective runs. “I am picking

that both of them will need the run, but we are

pleased where they are at,” Baker said. “We

will see how they go on Saturday and then

make a plan, but there are plenty of options in

Melbourne in the spring.”

Jockey to make most of Moor opportunitiesWith Jamie Kah suspended and Damien

Thornton also on the sidelines through injury,

Daniel Moor looks set to pick up plenty of

rides for the in form Matthew Ellerton and

Simon Zahra team "Daniel has been working

extremely hard and he's as honest as they

come," Zahra told Racing.com. "With Jamie

and Damien out, he's stepped up and he's

riding well for us." Moor won on the stable’s

well backed Crystal Chief (Written Tycoon) at

Wangaratta on Monday and Zahra confirmed

he'll wear the same silks aboard Forever Free

(Exceed And Excel) in Saturday's Cap D'Antibes

Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Flemington. "He'll

be getting more opportunities for us including

Forever Free this Saturday," the co-trainer

added.

Waterhouse stands by bold Farnan call

Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse remains

confident that Group 1 winner Farnan (Not A

Single Doubt) will pick up where he left off last

season by taking out Saturday’s Run To The Rose

(Gr 2, 1200m). Waterhouse tweeted last month

“Farnan will not be beaten”, a bold statement she

stands by as post time for a red-hot running of the

Rosehill Group 2 contest moves ever closer. “You

don’t make a strongly worded statement unless

you feel the horse can back it up,” Waterhouse

told RacingNSW. “It’s a privilege to be training

an outstanding athlete and Farnan proved he

was the superior colt in Australasia winning the

Golden Slipper. It’s a nice bunch of three-year-

olds but they are all inferior to him. Well, they

were as two-year-olds.” Farnan won five of his

six starts as a juvenile, culminating in his length

and three-quarter success in the Golden Slipper

Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Rosehill in March. He

lines up on Saturday off the back of two trial wins

at Randwick last month, and Waterhouse, who

trains in partnership with Adrian Bott continued:

“He’s matured, I just like his demeanour. Hugh

(Bowman, jockey) is very excited by the colt, he

said to me he couldn’t believe how light he is on

his feet. When he does go into battle, and we’ve

only seen him in trials recently, he puts them

away and he puts them away convincingly.”

Begg’s cautious approach with NonconformistGrahame Begg meanwhile is taking a much

more conservative approach with his Caulfield

Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) hope Nonconformist (Rebel

Raider) after deciding against running the four-

year-old at Flemington on Saturday. "His blood

picture wasn't 100 per cent spot on, so I decided

to wait," Begg told Racing.com. "He's going to

run again in a couple of weeks. It's not a setback,

it's just we weren't 100 per cent happy. He won't

miss too much."

Vandyke anxious about Alligator’s return

David Vandyke has admitted he is getting

apprehensive ahead of his stable star Alligator

Blood’s (All Too Hard) eagerly anticipated

return at Doomben on Saturday. The Group

1 winner has drawn barrier five where he is

set to carry top-weight of 61 kilograms in the

Open Quality Handicap (1110m). "This is a

bit different to most Saturdays for me and I'm

a little nervous," Vandyke told Racing.com.

Alligator Blood is due to head for either The

Golden Eagle (1500m) or The Everest (1200m)

after the weekend and Vandyke continued:

"We haven't got a slot yet for The Everest, but I

wouldn't deny his owner the chance to run in

the world's richest race on turf even though I'm

not in love about heading that way. If he doesn't

get a slot, he'll go for The Silver Eagle first before

The Golden Eagle."

Jump-out for BehemothMemsie Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner

Behemoth (All Too Hard) is likely to have

a jump-out at Murray Bridge this morning

as his trainer David Jolly puts the finishing

touches to the five-year-old’s preparations

ahead of his start in next week’s Sir Rupert

Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield. "As

he gears up for a return to Melbourne and

Caulfield for a crack at another Group 1 in

Saturday week's Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, he

will just probably need one more significant

hit-out," Jolly told Racing.com. "He hasn't

done a great deal since the Memsie win, just

worked a bit of evens a couple of times. It has

really just been maintenance work with him,

ticking him over and keeping him happy and

I'm pleased to report he is in great order.”

Moores having Crack at Theo MarksBrothers John and Gary Moore will saddle

up their first stakes runner as a training

partnership when Crack On Crack On (Havana

Gold) makes his Australian debut in Saturday’s

Theo Marks Stakes (Gr 2, 1300m) at Rosehill.

The lightly-raced six-year-old has not raced

since placing in the Hong Kong Derby (Listed,

2000m) in March last year and Gary is keen to

see how he handles his local debut. "He is a

classy animal. He ran third in the Hong Kong

Derby so it's very exciting we've got him down

here in Australia and having a stakes runner

on Saturday is very special," Moore said. "He's

going into Saturday's race off a very good trial at

Rosehill last week. He hasn't run for a long time

so whatever he does, he is going to improve

immensely."

Aysar off to the Caulfield GuineasA tilt at next month’s Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1,

1600m) is on the agenda for Aysar (Deep Field)

after the colt returned with a win at Sandown

yesterday. "He's a pretty exciting horse going

forward," co-trainer Ben Hayes said after Aysar

took out the Benchmark 64 for three-year-olds

over 1300 metres. He did a good job. Luke

(Nolen) rode him well. He was a bit fresh and

hit the front too soon and then he stargazed as

he hadn't run for 70 days. He will take a lot of

benefit from this run."

Derby on agenda for OceanographyOceanography (Ocean Park) will head to the

Victoria Derby Trial (1800m) at Flemington

in a fortnight after breaking maiden ranks

at Sandown yesterday. The Ciaron Maher

and David Eustace-trained colt took charge

turning for home and ran away to win by

three-quarters of a length. “We have been

patient with him. He has been in work a

while and we have just chipped away with

him and gradually increased his workload,”

Eustace said. “The last six weeks he has really

thrived with the weather changing. He got in

a nice spot and stretched well. He is going to

get a bit further and hopefully we can keep

pushing on.” Stablemate Let’s Karaka Deel

(Dundeel), a last-start Swan Hill maiden

winner on August 24, is also considered as

a Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) prospect

for Oceanography’s owners Flying Start

Syndications.

Cup dream still alive for Glory DaysThe Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) dream is

still alive for Group 1-winning stayer Glory

Days (Red Giant) with trainer Bill Thurlow

taking the ‘you have got to be in it to win it’

mentality. “The dream’s still alive, but only

just,” he said. “The owners were pretty keen

to nominate her, so we did. You would be

kicking yourself if she came up really well

and you didn’t have a nomination.” Glory

Days was heading towards the Melbourne

Cup last year, however, those plans were

curtailed through injury. She subsequently

returned to the track in February, when she

posted two unplaced results before finishing

fourth in the New Zealand St Leger (Listed,

2600m). She was retired after that run but was

subsequently brought back into work after

her sale to overseas interests fell through.

Perth sprinter Fabergino heading to MoirWestern Australia sprint star Fabergino

(Maschino) is on course to take her chance on

the A.J. Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) at Moonee

Valley on September 25 after setting off on

her trip to Melbourne yesterday. The Tiarnna

Robertson-trained speedster has won each

of her last four starts, including the Northam

Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) back in May on her most

recent outing.

Garrison tops Inglis Digital SaleWyong trainer Kim Waugh believes Garrison

(I Am Invincible), yesterday’s Inglis Digital

September (Early) Online Auction sale-

topper, will develop into an ideal Provincial

Championships galloper. Waugh parted

with $95,000 for lightly-raced four-year-old,

a winner of two of his past three starts for

former trainers Peter and Paul Snowden,

whom Waugh sought advice from prior to

purchasing the gelding. “I had a chat to Peter

and Paul about him, they both really liked

him as a horse and his form is really good, he’s

probably been a bit unlucky not to have won

a couple more races actually so it’s nice to be

taking him home,’’ Waugh said. The second

top lot was the four-year-old mare The Spell

(Rubick), offered unreserved by Paul Perry

Horse Training in the broodmare category,

who was purchased by Boomer Bloodstock

on behalf of Daandine Stud. Craig Rounsefell

went to $85,000 to secure the half-sister to

Group 1 winner The Mission (Choisir) and

the stakes-placed two-year-old Smart Amelia

(Smart Missile).

Weir’s lawyer calls for case to be thrown outThe defence acting on behalf of Melbourne

Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir has

told a committal hearing at the Ballarat

Magistrates' Court that he'll press to have

the case against his client thrown out. Weir,

along with his former stable employees

Jarrod McLean, William Hernan and Tyson

Kermond, are contesting charges including

animal cruelty and conspiring to defraud

racing stewards. Weir's lawyer, Ian Hill

QC, described the conspiracy charges

as 'misconceived' and 'duplicitous' after

accusing Victoria Police of withholding

evidence that could see his client cleared

of the charges. The Crown case relies

on covert footage recorded on October

30, 2018 that allegedly shows electric

shocks being administered to horses in

Weir's care. However, the court heard that

detectives had recorded hundreds of hours

of additional footage at Weir's stables in

which nothing untoward had happened.

Winks forced to call it quitsGroup 1-winning jockey James Winks has

been forced to call time on his career due to a

medical condition. Winks has been diagnosed

as suffering from Syncope, a medical term for

fainting or passing out, due to a temporary

drop in blood flow to the brain, which is often

caused by physical stress, dehydration, heavy

sweating and exhaustion. “The main recoveries

for that are being hydrated, avoiding extreme

heat exposure and that’s quite the opposite to

my profession of being a jockey,” Winks told

Racing.com. “So unfortunately, on medical

advice it’s been in the best interests to force my

early retirement, the decision has been made

for me to call time on my career in the saddle

as a jockey and now I’m looking forward to the

next chapter that lies ahead.”

Dunn rules out spring return

Dwayne Dunn faces a minimum of six weeks

on the sidelines as a result of the injuries he

suffered in a barrier incident at Moonee Valley

on the weekend. Dunn said yesterday that after

seeing specialists for the two fractures to his C6

vertebra sustained when he struck his head on

the barrier stalls, he has been fitted with a neck

brace for an indefinite period. "It looks like six

to eight weeks," Dunn told Racing.com. "I've

got another x-ray on the 23rd of this month to

see how it’s healing, but that's the spring for me.

It's right at the wrong time, but you always take

your health.”

NSW jockey Skerritt injuredAlena Skerritt was injured after her

mount reared over on top of her while

the pair were walking off the Gosford

track yesterday morning. Skerritt, who

suffered concussion in the incident, was

taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for

observation after complaining of pain

across her body.

New racecourse manager at BallaratBallarat Turf Club yesterday announced the

appointment of Nick Stubbs as racecourse

manager. Stubbs, who has worked at Ballarat

for more than ten years and currently holds

the assistant racecourse manager position, will

replace the departing Dylan O’Neill.

NEW ZEALAND

Julius unlikely for TarzinoGroup 1 winner Julius (Swiss Ace) is unlikely

to take his chance in Saturday week’s Tarzino

Trophy (Gr 1, 1400m). The nine-year-old

gelding finished seventh in the Foxbridge Plate

(Gr 2, 1200m) last weekend at Te Rapa but is

under a fitness cloud. “He didn’t come out of

the Foxbridge Plate particularly well,” trainer

John Bell said. “All four fetlocks are red raw, the

back ones especially are really quite bad. To go

into a Group 1 race you need to be 100 per cent

and to do that by Saturday week is not looking

good.”

El Roca filly impressesThe Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott-

trained Escudo (El Roca) created a good

impression when shedding her maiden tag

at Matamata yesterday. The filly was placed

once as a two-year-old and she showed she

had made good progression from two to

three when winning the GCM Feeds Maiden

(1200m). “It was pleasing how she settled

well and quickened in what looked to be an

even little field,” Scott said. “The way she

quickened, she looks like she will get over

further, which is probably a necessity as a

three-year-old going forward into the season.

We always had high hopes for her, but the

Covid lockdown and the extra time she got

has been a massive aid to her and looking at

her today in the ring, she has bloomed into a

lovely big filly.”

Trial winner for BelardoHaunui Farm shuttle stallion Belardo (Lope

De Vega) has made a splash in the northern

hemisphere this year with his first crop and

now his southern progeny are turning heads.

Berlardo’s first southern hemisphere crop are

starting to hit the track now, with a two-year-

old colt winning his 700-metre trial by a length

and three-quarters at Ellerslie on Tuesday for

trainer Jamie Richards. “The Te Akau team have

had a bit of an opinion of that horse and he

looked really professional on Tuesday,” Haunui

Farm managing director Mark Chitty said. There

has been plenty of interest in Belardo early in

the breeding season, according to Chitty. “He

is a well patronised horse because we have got

some partners, like we had with Iffraaj, that

have supported the horse. He is a multiple

Group 1 winner and a two-year-old champion

in Europe. He is a highly credentialed horse and

HK travel bubble being consideredThe prospects of Australian representation

at December’s International meeting at Sha

Tin looked to increase yesterday when it was

revealed that Hong Kong is considering a

"travel bubble" with Australia and ten other

countries. The region's commerce minister

Edward Yau Tang-wah said anyone allowed to

travel within the bubble would be required to

undergo Covid-19 testing at both ends of their

journey. "We need to ensure that a coronavirus

test – that is mutually recognised – can be

carried out before travelling, and another

verification is needed after arrival," Mr Yah said

during a press conference in Hong Kong today,

according to the South China Morning Post.

"Our health authorities would then proceed

to further discussion with those countries." In

addition to Australia, the other countries being

considered as part of the Hong Kong bubble

are New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore,

South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, France,

Germany and Switzerland. The Hong Kong

International meeting, which features four

Group 1 contests, is this year scheduled to take

place on December 13.

20 for FoxwedgeWoodside Park resident Foxwedge (Fastnet

Rock) sired his 20th individual stakes winner

when Foxtrot Lady (5 m ex Strictly Dancing

by Danehill Dancer) finished well up the

stands’ side rail under Frankie Dettori to land

the Sceptre Stakes (Gr 3, 7f ) at Doncaster

yesterday. The Andrew Balding-trained five-

year-old was winning for the fifth time in 28

starts when she defeated favourite Althiqa

(Dark Angel) by a length and a quarter, with

the winner’s stablemate Bounce The Blues

(Excelebration) running on well to be just

another head away in third. Foxtrot Lady is

the third foal out of Strictly Dancing (Danehill

Dancer), who herself is a half-sister to the

dam of the French Group 2 winner Norse

King (Norse Dancer). Foxwedge stands at

Woodside Park Stud in Victoria for a fee of

$11,000 (inc. GST) in 2020.

35 for Bahamian BountyThe late Bahamian Bounty (Cadeaux Genereux)

sired his 35th individual stakes winner when

Tarboosh (7 g ex Mullein by Oasis Dream)

overcame a tardy start to take out the Scarborough

Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Doncaster yesterday. The

Paul Midgely-trained seven-year-old was winning

for the 12th time in 44 starts when he beat Urban

Beat (Red Jazz) by a length and a quarter, with

favourite Dakota Gold (Equiano) another neck

away in third. Dual Group 1 winner Bahamian

Bounty died at the National Stud in Newmarket

earlier this year at the age of 26.

Miss Amulet sold to powerhouse ownersMiss Amulet (Sir Prancealot), a cheap yearling

purchase who has been transformed into a

high-class two-year-old by trainer Ken Condon,

has been sold to Coolmore's Michael Tabor and

partners in a private deal. The Group 2-winning

juvenile is set to remain under the care of the

Classic-winning trainer and is being aimed at the

Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f). Miss Amulet has

changed hands for modest sums at public auction

on two occasions, having been pinhooked by

Rockview Stables for €1,000 as a foal before

bloodstock agent Michael Donohoe of BBA

Ireland secured the filly on behalf of owner Colm

Griffin for the bargain sum of £7,500 at last year's

Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale. Despite those

lowly early price tags, Miss Amulet has gone on

to prove herself one of the season's best two-year-

old fillies, having won the Marwell Stakes (Listed,

5f) before taking the step up in class in her stride

to land the Lowther Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) by a length

on her latest outing.

Tal Nolen, who educated and

sold Saturday’s Singapore Derby

(Listed, 1800m) winner Top Knight

(Zoustar) and topped last year’s

Magic Millions 2YOs In Training Sale with a

$525,000 No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) colt, will

return to the Gold Coast in November with a

select draft of horses for the breeze-up sale.

The Victorian trainer and respected

two-year-old consignor, who has forged a

reputation of well educated and talented horses

at Australia’s juvenile sales, has a draft of nine

heading north for the November auction in

Queensland.

Magic Millions last night released a 210-

lot catalogue for the November 10 sale which

features 144 horses who are BOBS eligible, 31

who are nominated for the sales company’s

rich race series, while four and three horses

are entered for the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr

1, 1200m) and Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1,

1200m) respectively.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the

market, and the fact that international buyers

will almost certainly be unable to attend the

sale in person, Nolen is remaining positive

ahead of the two-year-old sale series.

“I’m just pressing ahead as normal. We

can’t control the other end, we have just got to

try and produce horses that they want, which I

think we’ve got this year, so we’re just hopeful

like every other year, really,” Nolen told ANZ

Bloodstock News yesterday.

“We will be able to get the horses up there,

but whether we can go with the mandatory 14

days of quarantine currently being in place, that

will probably curtail us a bit, but we’ve got some

staff teed up if we can’t go.

“David Chester (from Magic Millions)

seems pretty bullish about the market and he is

generally pretty much on the money.”

Among Nolen’s draft of colts are two sons

of champion sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill)

and another by Newgate Farm’s Deep Field

(Northern Meteor). Under the Nolen Racing

banner, he also has colts by Pride Of Dubai

(Street Cry), Sebring (More Than Ready) and

Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock).

The experienced Nolen expects his offering

of horses to show up at the Seymour breeze-up

session which is scheduled for October 9 given

they are showing him that they have the mental

aptitude to deal with the rigours of training and

racing.

“Temperament is pretty important, I really

do think that they have got to have that attitude

to cope,” he said.

“They are all a pretty professional lot this

year, so I would expect them all to run down

nicely.”

He also has colts by first season shuttle

sires Cable Bay (Invincible Spirit) and Shalaa

(Invincible Spirit) as well as the Caulfield

Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Divine Prophet

(Choisir).

“They both tend to go all right, the Shalaa

and the Cable Bay that we’ve got. I think

they look like they will make it as sires in the

southern hemisphere, I’d say, on what we’ve

seen of them,” Nolen predicted.

“The Divine Prophet is also a really nice

horse and I don’t mind (his stock) as they

are great eaters and they are looking like they

are going to cop the work, so I’d say they’re a

chance as well.”.

Past Magic Millions sale graduates include

this year’s Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m)

winner Tyzone (Written Tycoon), smart stakes-

winning sprinter Victorem (I Am Invincible),

the popular The Candy Man (Casino Prince)

and talented mare Krone (Eurozone), a last-

start winner of the Glasshouse Handicap

(Listed, 1400m) on the Sunshine Coast in July.

“This is a two-year-old sale with proven

stakes results for buyers,” Magic Millions

managing director Barry Bowditch said.

“The Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale

produces more winners and has the best

strike-rate of the three breeze-up style auctions

in Australasia. The reason for this is the

professionalism of our vendors who are among

the most experienced and successful two-year-

old sale vendors in the region.”

Magic Millions, which has “opened the

batting” in recent years for the two-year-old

sales, pushed back its 2020 sale from October

to November in the hope that Covid-19

restrictions may have eased, leaving rival

Inglis’ Ready2Race auction to go first, on

October 20.

The New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Sale of

2YOs will follow on soon after the Gold Coast,

with November 18 and 19 set aside for the

auction.

Nolen’s son Shaun also has a draft of three

colts heading to the Gold Coast under the JCS

Thoroughbreds banner, while the pair will also

offer eight two-year-olds at the Inglis Ready 2

Race Sale.

VERDICT Form fillies Dubai Fountain and Star Of Emaraaty have hadten starts between them and look vulnerable to some promising

types who are open to stacks of improvement. ZABEEL QUEEN, who is from agood family that has served her notable owner-breeder well, gets the vote over asimilar sort in Indigo Girl. Other interesting contenders are Lilac Road, Ubuntuand Prado in a very informative May Hill.[Steve Boow]
