TRANSCRIPT
Dear Pupils, Parents & Carers,
Next week is the half term break. It has been a long term. Even though we haven’t been at
school, the staff have been working hard making sure they have created the best online
learning opportunities for our children, and also teaching the children who have been at
Finberry Primary School. It has been very strange and all of the staff are missing being
with their classes.
You have also been just as busy at home with your
learning, as we have seen from all of the photos that you
have been sending in to us. We love to see what you have
been doing and share it with the Chilmington Green family
in these newsletters.
Next week would have been half term. A time when
normally we could go out and enjoy the sunshine with our
friends and family. Although there are still restrictions
on who we can meet up with, luckily the government has
said that we can go out for longer periods. We are very
lucky where we live, there are some amazing places within
a very short distance, where we can walk, relax and make
the most of nature. Why not try them out? It is amazing
how much better it makes us feel getting out into the
fresh air and spending time outdoors. Please remember
that although we can go out and enjoy the outdoors, it is
really important that we still keep 2 metres away from
anyone that doesn’t live with us.
As you are aware the government has
laid out plans for some children to
start to return to school after the
half term. The staff have been in
school this week setting up the
classrooms and making the changes
that are needed to make sure that we
can slowly start to return. The staff
are excited and we can’t wait to see
you all back at school again. We know
this will take some time, but at least
this is a beginning.

REMEMBER TO SMILE!
This week is the start of
National
Smile Month.
Can you
make a smile
picture and
send into us!
This is a unique time in our history. At school we study the history of the
world and how key events and periods in the past have affected our way of
life today. At the moment… WE ARE HISTORY IN THE MAKING! In the future
people will learn about us in their history lessons.
We know about these key events in history from documents and artifacts that
were around at the time. Why not be a part of this and create your own time
capsule to show what your life has been like so far this year?
What things would you include to show people
what life was like? You
could include a
newspaper clipping, or
the whole paper.
Or maybe you could make a film of what your day is
like.
Why not write a diary about the things you have been doing and what your
day is like? Include some photos of what you have been doing, toys you have
been playing with or hobbies that you have.
You could even draw a picture what you have
been up to.
Use your imagination and think about what
would you want people in the future to know
about what life has been like for you.
We would love to see what you have created
so remember to send in a picture of your
work.
Show & Share for Everyone!
Each week some of the staff at Chilmington will share with you what they have been doing at home. You can share with us your wonderful creative ideas too! Please send your photographs to
[email protected] We cannot wait to see what you have all been doing at home!
Mr Scott
While we have been on lockdown I
have been making a model library to
go in our book corner at school. It is
finally finished.
It was very small and fiddly but it was
great fun to make and I think it looks
really good.

During the lockdown I have been
spending a lot of time in the park
exercising. I’ve learnt how to do a
handstand and I can hold this position
for a few seconds.
All of the staff of Chilmington Green
have been learning new skills during
this time. What have you been learning
at home? Why not send us a picture
for next week’s newsletter!
Dear Parents & Carers
This week is the beginning of National Smile Month. A campaign by The Oral Health Foundation that champions the benefits of having good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile.
Between 18TH May and 18TH June, we will be joining the campaign to make a positive difference to the oral health of our school community and we really hope you will join us. Each week we will focus on different areas of Oral health for you and your child to think about. There will be an activity for your child to do at home, that may include downloadable resources. The information will be taken mostly from the website www.nationalsmilemonth.org.
This week our focus is on the ‘SMILE.’ A universal sign across the World, of friendship, an expression of happiness or of a willingness to connect or to welcome.
Spike Milligan wrote this poem about smiles
Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realized I'd passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile, then I realised its worth.
A single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected
Activity- Write a poem about what a smile means to you. It could be about how a simple smile makes you feel or what makes you smile. Or you could write about how you look after your smile by brushing and thinking about your teeth, gums, or visiting the dentist.
Or you could draw a picture of a smile, lots of smiles, or of things that make you smile.
It's entirely up to you. We would love to see them so please share them with us by emailing [email protected] Keep smiling!
