Memories of the Allentown Fair...Back in 1962, my husband
Bill and I went to the Allentown Fair. We went there to see the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans show at the Grandstand. I was pregnant at the time, expecting our son John. I packed a bag since the hospital was right across the street from the Fairgrounds. Well, he wasn’t born until two weeks later. There is so much to see and do at the Fair. For me, I always enjoyed the many exhibits in the Agricultural Hall, especially the antiques. There are many new displays of arts and crafts, preparing food and drink. Then there is the judging of the animals, poultry and birds. Many prizes are given out, even the best of show. As one walks around the Fair, they will see side shows, games of chance, carnival rides and food stands, like the Brass Rail and Vince’s. I also remember the Ritz Barbeque Restaurant...especially their homemade ice cream. Looking at the calendar, I came across the third Sunday of August, which is known as Friendship Day. May God Bless You, now and always.
Dorothea Shunk - C-3
Years ago, before we had air conditioning, we had to think of
ways to stay cool in the hot month of August. As a child, I went swimming in the Perkiomen Creek. Another favorite spot was Cedar Beach, which has changed so much since I went there many years ago. Back in my day, it had a sandy bottom and a beach to sit and watch. There was a big bath house with showers...no charge. I wish I had photos to picture the change.

Hello Friends,
Sometimes the simplest things in nature remind us that God is always in control and has a perfect plan for us. A few weeks ago I was sitting out front of my home talking on the phone. I was speaking to someone who was frantic over their financial situation and events taking place in their life. This individual was ask-ing for some guidance and prayer. As I was listening I was also watching a Robin walk around the yard. At the time we hadn’t had much rain to speak of. The ground was very dry. Nevertheless, this Robin knew just where to find the worm. Another Robin caught my attention at the same time. This one was a very young bird. He hopped up the slight slope in my yard to the mature bird. She fed the young Robin the worm. Such a simple scene in nature, but as Biblically sound as the sermon on the mount. Trust God. Why stress? God is in control. He knows what you have need of before you ask. If God provides for the birds of the field, how much more will he care for you? A great deal more my friend. Next time you are bogged down with the bur-dens of this world, remember the two Robins. God will take care of you! Your Friend, Pastor Mike

How quickly summer is flying by. Hopefully everyone is enjoying the nice weather and the summer holidays. There are always plenty of good times to be had at Cedarbrook Senior Care & Rehab. Our residents love having volunteers come in to paint fingernails for the ladies, play pinochle, bingo, or any of the games and activities here at Cedarbrook. Just a few hours of your time is so greatly appreciat-ed. We also want to thank all those volunteers who have spent their summer helping at Cedarbrook. When you give a little of yourself to others, you get so much more in return. Volunteer shifts are about two hours. Here’s how you can help: Transport and assist at all or any of these activities.
-Outdoor Concerts- August 9th and August 23rd, 6:00 to 8:30 pm
-Assemble Newsletters – Assist our staff and residents in putting together the Sunshine News. Last Wednesday of each month from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
-Music Makers – every Thursday 9:30 am to 11:30 am
-Beauty Shop – Monday, Wednesdays and/or Fridays 9:00 am-12:00 pm.
-Visits with our residents – inside our building or outside on the patio
-Bus Trips – Meet our residents at local stores/events and assist them in having shopping or having fun.
-Escort residents around our front parking lot to enjoy the Car Show on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
Your kindness is so deeply appreciated by our residents and staff.
If any of these opportunities strike your fancy, please give me a call. I will be happy to schedule an appointment with you and answer any questions you might have about volunteering. We are also scheduling appointments with students who are in need of Community Service Hours for school. Contact: Kerry Magliane, Volunteer Coordinator at
[email protected] or at 610-336-5684.

1/4 cup cilantro minced (optional)
4 - 8” Tortillas
DIRECTIONS:
Lay Tortillas on a clean flat surface. Place
about 1/2 cup chicken, 1 tablespoon ranch, 2
tablespoons cheese and 1 tablespoon minced cilantro on each Tortilla. Fold tightly to form a
burrito shape. Heat a heavy-duty pan or grill to medium heat.
Coat with a light layer of oil or cooking spray
and cook wraps for 1-2 minutes on each side
or until the Tortilla is crispy and golden. Remove from heat, slice in half and serve
immediately. *You can use cooked rotisserie chicken, leftover chicken or grilled chicken
seasoned with your favorite spices.
1 Pound lean ground beef
5 Slices cooked bacon, chopped
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 Teaspoon dried minced onion
Pepper and salt, to taste
5 Large flour Tortillas

DIRECTIONS:
Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medi-
um high heat. Drain any grease. Add cooked chopped bacon, Worcestershire sauce,
ketchup, minced onion and salt and pepper to beef. Stir to combine.
Reduce heat to low and let mixture heat
thoroughly, about 5 minutes or so.
Sprinkle some cheddar cheese down the center
of each Tortilla. Add a few heaping Table-spoons of the beef mixture on top of cheese.
Drizzle a little mustard (and more ketchup, if
desired) on top of the beef and then add a couple tomato slices. Roll up each Tortilla
burrito-style. Place wraps, a couple at a time, onto a pre-
heated indoor grill and grill for 3 - 5 minutes or
until cheese is melted. Carefully remove wraps
from grill. Gently unravel wrap to add some lettuce. Re-roll wrap and then cut in center
diagonally. Serve immediately.

1 Cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 (15oz) Cans Chili
2 Tbsp. butter, melted - 1 Tsp. finely chopped chives
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out crescent

dish. Place hot dogs in a row side to side on top of chili. Combine melted butter with onion pow-
der and chives. Brush over hot dogs and place in oven for 30 minutes, cover with foil if crescent

On Thursday, May 3, 2018, the ladies of C-2 celebrated the annual running of the Kentucky Derby. Each guest wore a fashionable Kentucky Derby hat, including one of our ladies who made her own hat. We enjoyed virgin Mint Julips and played an interactive DVD game entitled “Derby Day”. All the ladies looked beautiful and had a great time...they all came in First Place!

Tips for Keeping Your Money and Valuables Safe
Although we discourage residents from keeping money and valuables in their room, we realize that many of you will choose to do so. Therefore, we would like to offer these tips to help you keep your money and valuables safe from loss or theft. Since you have access to the money in your account during normal business hours Monday through Friday, we suggest that you only withdraw the amount you need for immediate use. If you need larger sums of money for gifts or to reimburse your family members for purchases made on your behalf, we suggest that you contact Financial Services to arrange for payment by check. If you choose to keep money and valuables in your room, we highly recommend that you secure such items in the locked drawer of your bedside cabinet. Keep your key with you, or keep your key out of sight in a safe place. As soon as you realize that your money or property is missing, it is important to report it immediately to the Charge Nurse. Cedarbrook will not assume responsibility for replacing missing property kept by res-idents on their person or in their room. However, we will take action to investigate, and to try to recover your property if possible. Finally, we ask that you help us maintain a current inventory of your personal property. Any property that you purchase or receive during your stay should be added to your Valuables Received After Admission Form, including a description of the property. This infor-mation is essential when trying to locate missing items.
