2 x DAYLIGHTRoof windows offer up to 2 times as much daylight
as facade windows
VELUX provides a range of roof windows for both sloped roofs and flat roofs. Sloped roof windows are used for roofs that have a pitch of 15% and up.
Achieve sufficient daylight in your home by using this simple rule; the combined glazing area of the room should represent approximately 20% of the floor area. This will ensure your room meets the recommended daylight levels of 300-500 lux as well as giving you an indication of how many roof windows you need.
Position the roof windows so that productive areas such as dining tables and work spaces are well-lit. Also, consider positioning your roof windows so they provide a view to the outside. Finally, be aware that South-facing windows will provide more daylight than windows facing North.

Choose the right solutionToday, we spend 90% of our time indoors and almost half of our lives at home. Yet, studies have shown that daylight and fresh air provide multiple benefits for the body and mind.
With the EU recommending a minimum level of daylight for a home - 300 lux for most rooms and 500 lux for rooms where productive work is performed - the most effective way to gain more daylight in a room is by allowing it to flow through the roof.
We have created this simple 6-step guide to help you identify your specific needs and design the perfect VELUX solution for your home.

5. Daylight, heat and privacy
Fresh air is fundamental for a better indoor environment. The most effective way to ventilate your home is by using natural ventilation. This can be done in two ways; stack-ventilation, where each roof window is positioned above another window; and cross-ventilation, where the roof windows are positioned across from each other.
4. Create effective ventilation
VELUX roof windows will provide your home with an abundance of daylight, creating a brighter and warmer home. You may need to reduce and sometimes completely block out the daylight, to reduce heat and increase privacy, for example in bedrooms and bathrooms. Our wide range of decorative blinds, awnings and shutters allow you to control daylight, heat and privacy.
