“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47

Everyone who comes to me and listens to my

words and does them—I will show you what he is like: 48

He is like a man building a house who dug down deep

and laid a foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the river beat against that house but could not shake it,

because it was founded on bedrock. 49

But the one who listened to my words and did not do them is like a man

who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river broke against it, it fell immediately, and

that house was completely destroyed.” (Luke 6:46-49, EHV)

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This month, God willing, we have the great delight to confirm five more young people in the faith and

welcome them into our congregation. After having received full instruction in the Word of God they are more

than ready to be examined and to confess their faith in Christ as their Savior.

It brings back memories, doesn’t it? Maybe it brings back memories from our own instruction in the

Word of God or, perhaps, from your own confirmation. My prayer, though, is that the memory that truly comes

to minds isn’t the events that surround confirmation but the reason for it. Confirmation is meant to do one thing

above all else; to remind us of whom the true solid foundation of our faith is. Our faith is founded on Christ and

on his Word.

Jesus told his disciples a parable about what faith is like. He said that if faith and life is built upon the

Word of God then it can withstand whatever storms this world sends at it. This is all, and only, because the

foundation is solid. Yet, if we don’t build our faith and life on the Word we have no foundation at all. When the

storms and tempests of life rage everything will collapse and be destroyed completely.

We all too often like to look to the world around us for our foundation and support. We look to family to

be our rock through hard times. We immerse ourselves in work and hobbies so that we always have something

to fall back on when things get tough. We figure that we just need to be tougher and fight through the trials and

tribulations of life because then we will be strong enough to face whatever comes all on our own. The only

problem is none of these things are solid enough to weather the storms of a sin corrupted world.

Christ took upon himself the weight of our sin. He alone can carry our guilt and give us the hope and

promise of eternal life. He beckons for us to trust in him for full and free forgiveness; to build our lives on him.

He is our solid foundation. Christ is the one who can get us safely through all of life’s challenges.

If you are one of the five being confirmed this year, I encourage you to dedicate yourself to your

continued study of God’s Word. Make him your rock solid foundation. For the rest of us, we need to rededicate

ourselves to Christ. Let him be the foundation and support of your faith and life and you will never have to fear

everything falling apart.

Your Brother in Christ,

Monthly Bible Readings

The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan offers special features that will help you in your journey through the bible. By reading from four separate places in the Scripture every day, you should be able to better grasp the unity of the Scriptures, as well as enjoy the variety of seeing four different viewpoints. Don’t become frustrated if you fall behind. Each month lists only twenty-five readings. That offers several “free days” each month for catch up if they are needed. Here are the passages for JUNE.

Dear members of Christ,

God is good! He has protected and guided our congregation through significant changes unlike

anything we’ve lived through. This is all new to us, but we are still in the hands of our gracious Lord

and God.

We re-open on May 31, Pentecost Sunday! Even as we re-open, we are still mindful of the guidelines

in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Here are the plans that will be in place for our

worship.

Service times: Sunday at 8:00 and 9:30 am and Monday at 6:30 pm.

Distancing:

Ushers will assist as you are seated in order to maintain social distancing.

We will follow the La Crosse County guidelines that suggest seating at 25% of capacity.

Feel free to wear whatever protective gear you may need to feel comfortable (masks, gloves, hand sanitizer etc. . .)

The services will be a little shorter than usual to limit “exposure” time and allow one service to exit before the next service enters.

Singing: Some health care experts are concerned about the amount of droplets put into the air when

singing. We are a singing church, but also want to be aware of these concerns.

We will speak all liturgy responses.

The Psalm will be sung by cantors/soloists or spoken.

We will limit our hymns to 2 or 3 and may sing fewer verses.

Format: We will strive to limit surface contact and passing of materials as much as possible.

The service will be projected to screens.

A limited number of printed worship folders will be available to supplement the screen. o If you take a worship folder, please do not return it. o Worship folder and Weekly Updates will still be available on our website.

Services will still be recorded and made available online.

The offering plate will be in the back of the church.

Friendship registers, pew Bibles and hymnals will be removed. Feel free to bring your own hymnal and Bible.

Cleaning

Pew backs will be wiped down after each service.

The doors will be propped open or opened by a greeter or usher.

Ever since mid March, we’ve been learning and adjusting as we go, and this will be no different!

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to bring God’s people back together!
