Here for You
Bible in a Year: 2 Chronicles 13–14; John 12:1–26
I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.
Deuteronomy 15:11
On the outskirts of Paris, as in other cities around the globe, peo-
ple are coming to the aid of the homeless in their communities.
Clothing, covered in waterproof bags, is hung on designated
fences for those living on the streets to take according to their
needs. The bags are labeled, “I’m not lost; I’m for you if you’re
cold.” The effort not only warms those without shelter, but also
teaches those in the community the importance of assisting the
needy among them.
The Bible highlights the importance of caring for those who are
poor, instructing us to be “openhanded” toward them
(Deuteronomy 15:11). We might be tempted to avert our eyes to
the plight of the poor, holding tightly to our resources instead of
sharing them. Yet God challenges us to recognize that we will
always be surrounded by those who have needs and therefore to
respond to them with generosity, not a “grudging heart” (v. 10).
Jesus says that in giving to the poor we receive an enduring
treasure in heaven (Luke 12:33).

Our generosity may not be recognized by anyone other than
God. Yet when we give freely, we not only meet the needs of
those around us but we also experience the joy God intends for
us in providing for others. Help us, Lord, to have open eyes and
open hands to supply the needs of those You place in our paths!

Reflect & Pray
Generosity displays confidence in God’s loving and faithful provi-
sion. Today's Scripture: Deuteronomy 15:7–11 (NIV) Insight
God’s decree to Israel to care for the poor in their midst was represent-
ed by a trio of the poorest of the poor—widows, orphans, and aliens.
Because the Israelites were blessed with material prosperity, they were
commanded to share with the economically vulnerable (Deuteronomy
16:9–12; 26:8–11). Part of the command to be generous included al-
lowing the poor to feed on their lands under the law of gleanings
(Leviticus 19:9–10; Deuteronomy 24:19–21). They were also to set
aside a tenth of their harvests every third year as part of their social re-
sponsibility “so that [the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the
widow] may eat in your towns and be satisfied” (Deuteronomy 26:12).

Principal’s Report
The Young King – By Oscar Wilde, adapted for the stage by Nicki Bloom
The achingly beautiful and tender language of Oscar Wilde joins the intimate and magical world of
Slingsby Theatre Company. These are some of the reviews:
“The attention to detail is phenomenal…majestic and utterly delightful.” Gordon Forester, Lime-
light
“Oh, Slingsby, you’ve done it again!” David Grybowski, The Barefoot Review
“…will delight all and bring back magic and wonder through a truly excellent theatrical experi-
ence.”
Brian Godfrey, Adelaide Theatre Guide
“Slingsby’s beautifully staged adaptation of Wilde’s visionary parable has woven a spell that offers
hope for a better world.” Peter Wilkins, Canberra Critics Circle
“**** (4 stars) "...The Young King feels like entering another world..." "An Adelaide Festival high-
light, and a beautiful production for audiences aged eight to 80.” Richard Watts, Artshub.com.au
“…an immersive, otherworldly show, punctured with serious life lessons.” Debbie Cuthbertson,
Sydney Morning Herald
The Y3 to Y6 students attended the play and found it very meaningful and deep. It caused most of
them to think along the lines of:
‘If I am the naïve boy raised by goatherds and I discovered that I am the heir to a kingdom with
treasures and privileges laid at my feet, what kind of King would I be and at what costs would I go
to, to keep my privileges?’
Possum Magic Workshop – Thurs 06/06
This workshop was run by Monkey Baa Theatre Company. The sessions were fun and engaging.
They provided a great experience to help develop the students’ confidence and skills in Drama. It
was immersive and engaging and it provided the students with the opportunity to delve into the
magical world of Possum Magic with their favourite characters – Hush and Grandma Poss! It also
helped them explore the beloved picture book in a new and exciting way! This was a wonderful
pre-show in preparation for the actual play on Friday 21/06.

Winter Carnival – 07/06 postponed to 14/06
As I am writing this, our students are actually in the middle of their games. This is a wonderful
event as it brings the school community together where they can rub shoulders with one another
but still develop their sportsmanship. Well done to all the coordinators and we wish our students
Lap-a-thon – Friday 28/06
The children are getting excited to take part in this event. The last time it was done, many of the
students went beyond their goals and raised great amounts for the Nature Play. This time the
money will be shared between the Y6 Canberra Trip and the Nature Playground. We are looking
into getting attractive gifts for the winners and will announce them as soon as we can.
Nature Playground
The Nature Playground is open to all students of CCS. They may use the playground after school,
on the weekends and during the school holidays. All students will need to be accompanied by par-
ents. Please ensure that you do a check of the environment and the equipment before your kids
play in the area.
We have had a few birthday parties in the Nature Playground and the kids have enjoyed them-
selves. If you would like to reserve the area for any event, please get in touch with the school
office.

With content tailored to Possum Magic, Monkey Baa will again offer Teaching Artist workshops using drama-based activities to explore the plot, themes and production of the show on the road. Engaging lo-cal school communities, the workshops will provide an en-riching experience for stu-dents and professional learn-ing for teachers. The work-shops connect school groups to the production before they see it, building excitement, un-derstanding and ownership of the production.

Cross Country training is in full swing at Carnarvon
Christian School. A very big thanks to all of the
parents, students and staff who have woken up early
to attend.
Year 6 Canberra Camp fundraising is happening all of the school for this year’s year 6
students. They will be heading off to Canberra at the end of July and are raising as much
funds as they can to help with the cost of this camp. Some of
the Year 6 kids have been busy baking on a Thursday to make
cakes and biscuits for the cake stall that they will hold on a
Friday, selling the baked items for $1 each at lunch time and
after school.
