The Shetland Arts and Crafts Association would like to welcome you to the 2017 Christmas Craft Fair.

Here you will find a unique range of products all created by producers in Shetland; choose from textiles, cards, woodcraft, leatherwork, paintings, jewellery and much more.

We hope you will enjoy browsing through the diverse collection of products; the show provides you with an ideal opportunity to pick up some unique gifts in plenty of time for Christmas.

The Shetland Arts and Crafts logo is used in the guide to denote full members of the association. These producers must pass a quality

assessment by demonstrating that they have an original approach to the design of their product, a thorough understanding of the materials they are using, consideration to the presentation of the product and by maintaining consistant quality of work throughout.

It is with heavy hearts that we, the committee, launch the 2017 annual Craft Fair. At the start of the summer this year we lost our Chairman, our friend, Ian Gidney and to all of those that knew him and loved him – he is irreplaceable.

Ian was there right from the start of Shetland Arts & Crafts way back in 1995; despite being one of those odd people who believe that life is more important than committee meetings he was elected as Chairman in 2000 and we are enormously proud of everything that he achieved.

He was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, he always knew just the right thing to say (though sometimes it might have been wildly inappropriate), he was always there when you needed him, whatever time of day or night – and so we will always miss him, more than words can ever say.

Ian was steadfast in his love and devotion to his family, with his partner Jo and his son Robert he built a life filled with adventure, fun and happiness; we are just so very sad that he had to leave in the middle of their story –

Ian took fashion cues from no-one, he had a particular look that was all his own, his well grounded feet were most usually encased in mucky work boots & these boots will be very hard to fill. We will all remember him as an exemplary Chairman who was quietly passionate about the growing craft industry in Shetland and who worked tirelessly to promote it and keep it going. Our friend is gone, but because he lived, he left the world a better place; and we will keep him right here in our hearts forever –
