CME on EBM PRAXIS2012 Implementing EBM in Practice A CME on ‘EBM PRAXIS2012 Implementing Evidence–Based Medicine in Practice’ was organized on 20.04.2012 by the Department of Pharmacology. Evidence – Based Medicine (EBM) is the process of systematically reviewing, appraising and using clinical research findings to aid the delivery of optimum clinical care of patients. EBM forms part of the multifaceted process of assuring clinical effectiveness, the main elements of which are a) research evidence, b) patients preferences [who are more concerned with a better quality of life rather than outcome as such], c) clinical state and circumstance - all of which are

interconnected to d) clinical expertise. In EBM, cost-effectiveness (efficiency) is more important than clinical excellence (or effectiveness). Practicing doctors should thus always recognize the gap between best evidence available and the practice they do. Prof. Dr. K. Manimekalai, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacology, the president of CME program, welcomed the gathering and inaugurated the function. Prof. Dr. Ananthakrishnan N, Professor in General Surgery, spoke in detail on the topic,”Evaluating Evidence for Practice”. Prof. Dr. G. and clarify their doubts. The participants were divided into four groups at the beginning of the program and functioned well within their teams as each person had to represent their group in turn. Suggestions were given throughout the program by the junior faculty which in turn was accepted by the MEU faculty. The time management was quiet good except for a single session on the last day.
